"Whether Avalokiteshvara is the deity to whom you make offerings, the subject of your meditation, or the focus of your prostrations and devotion, immeasurable benefit will result. However, as we have seen before, all phenomena are projections of the mind; the person making offerings, the deity to whom offerings are made, and the offerings themselves do not exist in any way as concrete realities.

So when a great Bodhisattva practices generosity and the other paramitas, he knows that all these activities are no more real than a magical illusion or a dream. He makes vast offerings and accumulates infinite merit, but all the time, he remains totally free of attachment, pride, and condescension."
