HERE YE HERE YE! This week's Enchanted Forest News articles are free for anyone to read on my patreon page! Don’t know what the Enchanted Forest News articles are? It’s a ‘newspaper’ that takes place in the fictional magical world I’m writing (Middle grade book)! I write 3 new ones every week from the ‘news bulletins’ I put up once a day on my twitter! The news takes place a few years prior to the books, so if you read the articles there’s tons of plot hints, easter eggs, and characters that you’ll meet or recognize (including our main characters Prince Cedric and Princess Tilda) in the books!  I’m just trying to give a bit of laughter and brief break in all the horrible news we've had lately. Read them to your kids if you want! They're supposed to be fun and funny and at least fairly easy for kids 8 and up to understand! :)

THAT LAST PIC THO AM I RIGHT!?!?
I’ve just discovered my new favorite painter, Vittorio Reggianini - those smarter than myself probably already know of him as an Italian painter from the 1800s who made satin look even satiny-er than satin. I just cannot get over how much he loved painting women who were NOT. HAVING. A. MAN’S. SHIT.

But there was one hottie that everyone seemed to like, and I can’t blame them…

WRITER CONFESSIONS
Look, I’m going to real talk you here (but when do I not?). Let’s talk about writers and platforms (i.e. tumblr, twitter, youtube, IG, etc). I’ll be writing a longer post on my blog (oh look another platform!) if you want to see my tips and (lengthier) feelings about this. I don’t use tumblr a lot as a writer. Why, you ask? Because I’m literally on every platform save snapchat (and that’s mainly because I hate my face. I mean, lookit my icon. D’you see a photo? Exactly). And not only do I have to update every platform constantly (or at least I try), I have to write. And I have to promote (which I suck at. Oops.). And I have to write And I have to edit And I have a job And.  And and and and and. The social media platforms I’m on often require vast amounts of my time--even my writing time. That probably means I should cut back on some. But I won’t. Because I love meeting new writers and readers (and making friends. #lifegoals).  But that’s why you don’t see me posting or re-posting a ton here. For those who follow me here--BLESS YOUR SOULS YOU KIND PEOPLE. For those who found me through my blog or twitter or youtube or my actual books (hahaha) THANK YOU for following me here even though it’s meager. It means a LOT to me. Trying to balance out work, and writing (which is now my job--whaaaat?), and all of my social media’s is hard--especially since I tend to procrastinate and ESPECIALLY because I’m not always good with time management (I was that teen doing their reports the night before they were due).  So thank you for following me (on anything)!

BE LOUD
The voice of doubt is loud The voice of 'what if' is loud The voice of fear is loud The voice of 'why should it be you?' IS EXTREMELY LOUD But your book is louder Your passion is louder Your persistence is LOUDEST Don't give up. BE LOUD. And if you start to get those thoughts? If the voices above start to get louder than your book and your passion and your persistence then fill your thoughts with a positive future. Don’t think in thoughts of ‘what if’ and ‘why me’. You aren’t any less deserving of your book or your art getting attention than some one else. Work hard (whatever that means or looks like for you). Write often. Fill your days with your passion so that the negative voices don’t have room to talk. Because you’re busy making your dreams come true. You’re busy doing what needs to be done.  And yes, slow days and in between days feel agonizing and painful and look a lot like ‘never going to make it’. But you will. Persist. When you get another ‘no’ dust off your knees and keep applying. Keep writing. Keep moving forward. Don’t let those negative voices be louder than your passion.  BE LOUD.

OKAY BUT SO THIS’S SUPER HELPFUL THO.
Experiment with political systems
Sure, having a king/queen is simple, but have you ever tried:
Democracy
Multiple nobles and they all have the same amount of power (lot of conflict potential)
You can become ruler by defeating the current ruler in a fight
The merchants run everything
A noble and a parliament rule
The most intelligent people rule
There are thousands of possibilities, be creative!

WRITER REAL TALK
Getting Rejections
I’m going to have a full article up about this on my blog this Wednesday (3/28), but I just wanted to address this a little bit here. When we signed up to be writers (we obviously agreed to become one before we were born, not knowing the full ramification of our non-body decision.) we knew there would be hard times. We knew there would be rejection but that we would soldier on because JK Rowling had tons of rejections and SHE made it. But let me tell you guys. Those rejections fucking HURT. EACH of them. And the ones that hurt the most (in my opinion) are the ones that are clearly the mass-emailed one. The ones that sometimes don’t even say your name just, ‘thanks for applying and after some consideration decided not to take your project on”. The agent didn’t even LOOK at your story. An intern did. THAT’S what that means.  And it HURTS. You think you can handle it and then when you see it staring you in your face, its a big slap across your writer’s soul. And some authors will say “yeah it kinda sucked but onward we go.” Onward indeed. It hurts, and anyone who says it doesn’t is obviously a fish disguised as a human.  But, YES. Keep applying–because only the strong make it. But also, no matter how big you get, you get rejected. BIG named authors get ACTUAL REJECTIONS even though their big name authors. And it HURTS THEM. Because now the thoughts come rushing in “What if I’m a one hit wonder?” “What if I’m not actually a good writer and the last book was pure dumb luck?” No matter which stage in the writing game you’re at, your going to face rejection and it’s going to hurt and it’s okay to eat ice cream and feel like a failure and cry. But then get up and keep going. Because your words deserve to heard. You owe it to your characters. You owe it to yourself.

WRITER REAL TALK
DEAR WRITERS, Sometimes your best is taking a break from your work AND KNOWING IT'S OKAY TO DO THAT. Don't let people tell you you're not working hard enough if you're not writing every single day. Art takes time. Take your time. People often think writing can be (And should be) tackled like a 8-5 job. And it's not. Writing is an art, and art isn't a 9-5, 5 days a week job.  Sure, itt's work, you have to be driven and determind, but it's also erratic and not a methodical plugging away of fingers to key board 9 hours a day.  As writers in a world of instant gratification we sometimes we forget that you can't be gogogo 24/7. We can’t write good material when we’re burned out or have writers block. WE AREN’T MEANT TO WRITE  9 HOURS A DAY 5 DAYS A WEEK. Taking breaks is especially important for us writers. Our brains need time to process whole world, personalities, cultures, and plots. if you DIDN'T take a few days off after writing an intense scene I’d be shocked!  IT’S OKAY TO TAKE TO A BREAK. DON’T FEEL BAD IF IT’S BEEN 2 WEEKS. YOUR BRAIN IS TIRED AND WORKING HARD. YOU AREN’T FAILING OR A BAD WRITER FOR TAKING A BREAK. Yours, A concerned author friend

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT AND I FULLY SUPPORT THIS! PLEASE FOLLOW ALL OF THESE TIPS, ESPECIALLY ABOUT KNOWING YOUR RIGHTS AND ABOUT HAVING A REPRESENTATIVE TO SPEAK ON YOUR BEHALF.  IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO BE CLEAR IN YOUR MESSAGE. DO NOT BREAK RANKS. I BELIEVE IN YOU ALL SO MUCH! YOU ARE BRAVER, SMARTER, AND MY GOD ARE YOU MORE DETERMINED THAN THE 60+ YEAR OLD SENATORS IN THEIR GILDED SEATS. I BELIEVE IN YOU AND YOUR ABILITY TO BRING THOSE OLD MEN AND WOMEN WHOSE CHILDREN LIVE IN GILDED CAGES AND NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SHOOTINGS IN THEIR SCHOOLS DOWN THROUGH THE MUD AND OUT THE DOOR. THEIR TIME IS UP WITH SAYING MASS SHOOTINGS ARE OKAY. THEIR TIME IS UP WITH SAYING THEY’LL ‘GET AROUND TO IT’. THEIR TIME IS UP AND YOU ARE THE HAMMER OF JUSTICE. YOU ARE MORE AND STRONGER THAN THOSE WEAK PEOPLE WHO HAVE TAKEN MONEY OVER THE SAFETY OF YOUR LIVES.  REMIND THOSE OLD MEN IN POWER WHAT A STRIKE  LOOKS LIKE AND WHAT IT’S ACHIEVED IN THE PAST. YOU’VE GOT THIS. YOU ARE NOT JUST MAKING HISTORY, YOU *ARE* HISTORY IN THE MAKING. THANK YOU.

IT’S OFFICIAL. There will be a national school walkout on March 14th. This walkout demands action to finally be taken on gun violence. No more students deserve to be gunned down because lawmakers don’t wanna do anything about it. We are the generation that’s being affected the most by these weak gun laws, and WE are the ones who should be protesting about it. One student dying because of a gunman is one too many. SPREAD THE WORD, this applies to ALL students!!

{Original Poem}
STRUGGLES
As winter’s grip begins to pass Beneath the snow life stirs at last A slender blade reaching tall Determined to thrive To give it’s all It struggles on, pondering why But knows it must to see the sky And from the snow that tiny blade Has pierced the top To greet the day Triumphant and free of its snowy cave Unfurling it’s petals in victories wave
****** Sometimes our struggles as writers and artists seem to be too much to bear. We don’t want to keep trying and pushing because we don’t know if we’ll make it –if our dreams will make it. But like the snow drops that pushes itself through snow, to grow even when the world says it shouldn’t, so too should you push. Dreams aren’t easy, chasing after them DEFINITELY isn’t easy, and can often require putting in time and effort for little reward in the short term. But keep going. Because it’s one foot after another, one ‘no’ and 'next’ and 'pass’ after another until you hear yes. And it only takes that one yes. Struggle sucks. It’s not pretty, it’s hard, it’s lonely at times and feels like we’ll be in the dark forever. But when you push through the top of that snow? When you get that yes? That’s why you don’t quit. Your dreams need you as much as you need them.Nurture them, push them, believe in THEM i you don’t believe in you.
