TMA Appreciaton Week is a prompt week to celebrate of the one-year anniversary of the Magnus Archives finale. This event will run March 21st to the 27th and feature fanworks for your favorite characters, scenes, ships, and more. Each day three different prompts will be provided for inspiration but don’t feel like you have to stick to them. If you have an idea you want to use, feel free to use it.

(AUs are the exception.  They can happen anytime during the week and not just during the bonus day)

Keep in mind, the prompts are here for your inspiration.  You don’t have to use them if you don’t want to.  If there’s something completely unrelated to them (but still Jonmartin-themed) you’d like to do for the event, go for it!

Announcing TMA Body Positivity Day on November 6, 2021!

TMA Body Positivity Day will celebrate body positivity in TMA fanworks! The TMA fandom has always been wonderful at incorporating body positivity into their works, which has meant a lot to many of us. Because of this, I wanted a day to be able to celebrate that and promote body positive works in our fandom!

All types of fanworks are welcome, such as fic, art, meta, or posts talking about what body positivity in TMA means to you. New works will be reblogged on November 6th, but old works will be reblogged leading up to the event, and after it takes place! Works tagged with #tmabodypositivity will be reblogged on this account, and an AO3 collection has been created for you to add new and old works to, if you wish.  

If you have an old work that you want us to share, feel free to either retroactively tag it or message us and we can queue it up! Please make sure all works follow the guidelines detailed in the FAQ.

Announcing: Red String Retrospective Week!

“What if it wasn’t the Web all along? What if Agnes was still alive? What if you could bring your favorite debunked theories back to life?

In this event, we’re digging back to the red stringing and creativity of old that took their own paths from the story that took place in canon!

What Is Red String Retrospective Week?

Red String Retrospective Week is an event created by and for fans of the Magnus Archives to encourage the creation of fanworks that stray from the canon lore of the podcast through debunked theories, no longer relevant speculation, and anything else you might think of! The event will run from October 4th to 10th and will promote all headcanons, writing, and art you create.

Three different prompts will be provided for each day of the event. You don’t have to stick to the prompts or the theories - they’re there as inspiration. If you have an idea and none of the prompts are calling to you, go for it! Any and all content is encouraged.

We will be using the #redstringweek tag to collect works on our Tumblr, or you can ping us @red-string-retrospective-week. Check out our FAQ page for more details about the event!

Alternate Archives Week is created by and for fans of The Magnus Archives as well as potential alternate universes for fanworks such as historical alternate universes, pretend relationship alternate universes, or the classic coffee shop alternate universe. All headcanons and canon interpretations are welcome in this event, as are works that focus on characters who aren’t part of the Archives crew.

This event will run from September 27th to October 3rd and will feature fanworks for your favorite Magnus Archives characters and parings. Each day three different prompts will be provided for inspiration but don’t feel like you have to stick to them. If you have an au idea you want to use, feel free to do so.

So I don’t know how to write recommendations but it’s round 6 of @themagnuswriters Fanwork Appreciation Challenge, one of the prompts is mythology AU, and this seems like a great opportunity to remind y’all that if you aren’t reading AppleSap’s Like Real People Do, you should be!

It features Jon as the weird little librarian man we love, except he’s also a weird little librarian dragon who lives in the archives and hoards stories! And Elias, of course, ‘forgets’ to tell the assistants this salient fact about their boss.

Those of you who follow me know I am something of a dragon enthusiast, but this fic especially has some of the most fascinating dragons that I’ve seen in any media; there are different species/abilities related to the Fears, of course, but the cultures and magic and attitudes toward humans and feeding that we’ve seen so far, and the mysteries still unfolding about what dragons are and how they form, are incredibly interesting!

Plus there’s some delicious tension with the assistants discovering they have a dragon as a boss and dealing with that in their own ways, them meeting other dragons, Jon’s relationship with other dragons as a centuries-old being (love Jon and Georgie’s friendship in this fic) and more! It’s amazing. Go read it!

TMA Fanwork Appreciation Challenge - Fics That Made Me Cry

I'm sliding in at the last minute with my recs for round four of @themagnuswriters fanwork appreciation challenge! There are a few fics that have genuinely made me cry, and here they are!

For a time.

A post-canon fic where Jon gradually loses his memories after being cut off from the Eye and eventually dies. As may be expected, extremely heavy on the angst, but also very tender and sweet. Gave me a lot of feelings very early in the morning.

Jon wanted to know it all. Martin’s wants, his fears, his past heartbreaks. If he’d ever been left behind by someone he loved. And then Jon could share in kind. He wanted to share himself with such fierce intensity that both his hearts ached with the weight of it.

That night, Jon sang.

An AU where Jon is a merman and Martin is a human/sailor. Extremely angsty, and a bit of a darker twist on merfolk fantasy AUs.

When Martin Blackwood takes a job working at Peter Lukas's estate, in the highlands of Scotland, he meets an odd man down by the shore, who looks at him like no one ever has. This man proves to be another secret Martin Blackwood must keep, for more reasons than one.

To be so sure of a love the world denies is a heavy burden to bear. But bearing it was, and will always be, a choice. And it's one that Martin has chosen.

Another merman Jon/human Martin AU! There's a lot of angsty/bittersweet moments in this one, but the one that made me cry specifically is near the middle and involves Tim. If you've read the fic I'm sure you know the one. ;__;

Jon chuckled, haggard. “You always make it sound so easy.”

“Hey,” Martin said, touching Jon’s chin. He waited until Jon dragged his eyes back up from the pavement. “Worst comes to worst, we’re going to carve our little pumpkin, and we’re going to drink our hot apple cider, and we’re going to have a good time.”

Jon struggles. Martin tries to help.

A uni AU that has a lot of Jon-related angst. Specifically, this one made me cry because of how much I related to how Jon was feeling (especially during chapter two) and how lovely it was to see Martin talk him through his feelings.

It’s really no surprise when Martin wakes one morning to the creaking of the bed as Jon scrambles out of it, nearly tripping in his effort to free himself from the tangle of sheets that, once, had been a comfort. It still nearly breaks Martin when Jon says, in a voice trembling with raw fear, “Where- where am I? Who are you? Why- why can’t I see anything?”
