Change "week" into "year".

My professor way back in college was full of surprises--surprise quiz, projects, requirements, etc. One morning, she came to our class. She stood in front of us and delivered her instructions. I could not recall the exact task she gave but I could still hear her voice said: "NOW" and all of us, from the 4th floor of our building, flew all the way down to the nearest computer shop to work on that requirement. Yes, I felt like I was in an episode of Survivor. Only then I understand why some people don't like surprises.

In the second half of my 2019, life turned out to be a surprise. It was difficult--more difficult than the requirement I completed. Events that I never would have imagined from the beginning of the year happened quickly. So quick that life surprised me with lessons in a short span of time like my old self in my story who didn't see my professor would give such task on that day but the universe sometimes doesn't give us a choice but only to survive--to move forward. I felt like I hit my rock bottom but I saw the beauty of surprises. It is not only about the jolly birthday songs, and the sweet and romantic public proposals. It is about becoming resilient amidst the storm in your life. You were caught off-guard but you are capable of rebuilding your defense. It's one thing that makes life worth-it.
