An update:

Our sweet boy has a Pituitary Tumour. It's progressing quickly and there's nothing that we can do other than care for him and then help him over the bridge when the time comes.

Omg the tattoo!! Did it hurt 🙈

It's quite wonderful, isn't it. The artist is extremely talented and a generally wonderful woman, so I trusted that she'd do a good job.

It very much did hurt, yes. I have a very high pain tolerance, so I was able to sit for four hours without much issue, but I won't pretend it wasn't difficult. Some of it was very, very painful, like the areas on the rib bone, sternum, and oddly stomach.

It's always so lovely to see people enjoy rat content. They face so much stigma, but they're gorgeous little creatures.

As per request by a lovely anon, here are some general updates about me and my life:

I adopted four female rats from the RSPCA last year. It took some work but they are very sweet and silly. Their names are Tali, Liara, Kasumi, and Aria.

Due to an incident in which I was lied to by the employee of a major retailer about two of the rats in their adoption centre, Kasumi and Aria ended up pregnant. I now have 6 beautiful little baby rats as a result. They're gorgeous and doing very well, as are the mothers. They're 5 weeks old.

I'm still in a relationship with my lovely gamer boyfriend. We'll be celebrating 7 years together this year. 💕

Health stuff... I'll try to condense this:

- After a barrage of tests, cameras, scans, and more, I was officially told that I have severe Gastroparesis, which we all but knew. Unfortunately, that was pretty much the end of it. No further appointments, no medication to help symptoms - nothing. I was very much left to fend for myself, and that led to two hospitalizations, one in December of 2023 and one in February of 2024.

- December wasn't unfamiliar territory: 20 hours of vomiting and being unable to keep anything down led to my blood sugars being extremely high (Diabeyic Ketoacidosis). I stayed in for a few days after the DKA cleared up for monitoring.

- February was... terrifying. Started off the same as December with ceaseless vomiting, but the vomit turned to blood, and I could not stop bringing it up. Couldn't move, keep anything down, vision loss and lots, and lots of bringing up blood. I was in agony. I was rushed to A&E, where I was given anti-emetics and pain relief regularly through the many IVs I had in. Once the vomiting stopped, I was faced with another issue: my oesophagus was so inflamed and damaged that I couldn't eat or drink. I was kept in for 5 days and told that I was at risk of refeeding syndrome as I'd not eaten properly for about 3 days prior to admission. Luckily, that didn't happen, mostly because I was physically incapable of having more than a spoonful of yoghurt or mashed potato for over a week. We found out via my discharge papers that I'd had an Upper GI Haemorrhage. Scary scary scary. One good thing did happen after this admission, though! The team caring for me were absolutely outraged that I'd just been ignored since diagnosis, and I was sent home with an array of medication that has really helped me to get a handle on my symptoms during a flare up.

- Oh! I managed to catch Covid-19 quite literally on Yule and was very sick throughout New Year. I am vaccinated but caught a strain from Finland from a family member who had been there just before Yule.

I got another tattoo! It's one that I've wanted for almost a decade and I thought, given the stuff I've dealt with in the last 4 months, I deserve a treat.

I've been thinking about it, mostly as a way to keep people abreast of things. I have had some wonderful things happen rat-wise, and I've been very, very unwell which has been scary. I didn't think that people really had much interest in me, more so my content, so that's actually incredibly lovely to know.

Hello, Ghouls.

I just wanted to hop on and say that I have no plans to return to this blog full-time, at the moment. It's not because I am no longer a witch, or no longer practising, nor is it because I don't cherish the community here - I am and do.

It's a lot to try to explain, but here's a summary:

I have taken my spirituality back into the realms of privacy. The reason being that nowadays, I am in a much better place within myself. If people ask, I will teach; if people seek me out for my spiritual knowledge of over 14 years, they will receive if I am capable of providing. But I am happy to say that my spirituality is a place of comfort now. As opposed to being the only font of strength and safety that I had a few years ago.

I will come back now and then, as I have friends here that I love and miss dearly. I may begin to post again at some point, but I have no plans for that at this time. I would also like to make it very clear that I will have this blog up for as long as it is possible to, because to snatch the information stored here away would be a travesty.

I love you all. Make good choices, and stay spooky.

Checking in again.

Things aren't getting better yet, and I'm so tired that it's actually debilitating. Between university assignments and my health, I've got so little energy that my life is quite... bah. I've chosen to take a step back from blogging about witch stuff for a while, because I'm finding that I'm not getting as much enjoyment out of it at the moment. That's not to say that I don't love and cherish all of my amazing Ghouls! I love and cherish you all more than you could ever know.

I just need to do things that bring happiness to my life. I need to make it a priority, and reduce any pressures or stresses. So that's what I'm going to do.

Please, in my absence, be safe. Be compassionate and impassioned; be daring and loving. Be kind and courageous but, above all else, be yourselves.

Cosplay work is on hold for a few days as I'm having all sorts of magic done to me in hospital!

Today, I was told that I do indeed suffer with slow gastric emptying, which is a big step toward getting the help I both need and deserve. I also had a Gastroscopy and a Colonoscopy! Not the most pleasant procedures but not the worst either, and they'll go miles towards building my case.

Sympathetic Magic: What is it, and how does it work?

Unlike a lot of witchcraft-centric terminology, you don’t particularly see “sympathetic magic” thrown around a lot. This is because sympathetic magic is an umbrella term with lots of magics under its hypothetical umbrella. That doesn’t mean it’s not important to know what sympathetic magic is, however!

WHAT IS SYMPATHETIC MAGIC?

Put simply, sympathetic magic is an old type of magic in which an object that is associated with a target is used to seek influence over said target. 

An easy example of sympathetic magic is magics that use poppets. Poppets are powerful forms of sympathetic magic as they are a physical representation of a human target of the witch’s magic. Poppets are considered to be powerful because they often contain a taglock(s).

Sympathetic isn’t limited to just people, however. It can be used to influence events (an example being that if you desire a monetary gain e.g. a raise at work, you may want to include money in your spell), or even weather.

HOW DOES SYMPATHETIC MAGIC WORK?

There are two factors that make sympathetic magic work. Some magics involve both factor, some magics only one.

“Like-attracts-like”: an example of this, may be that should you wish to bring someone happiness, you can craft a poppet in their likeness and dress it in yellow. You could leave it in the sun with the intent of channeling the connotations of happiness from the sunshine. You could anoint it with an oil made to promote happiness, or you could tie a yellow ribbon around its head or heart.  The idea of “like-attracts-like” is pretty self-explanatory  —the method of the magic reflects your desired outcome, or to use the words of Sir James George Frazer: ‘that an effect resembles its cause’.

Items once in contact, retain a bond despite distance: this factor is one that states that once someone or something has been in contact with someone or something, the essence of the object/person will forever be bound to the object/person that touched it. This is why things like hair and nail clippings can be used as taglocks  —it doesn’t matter where or when the hair fell out or the nail was clipped. It carries the essence of its former owner, and always will.  This can work when influencing events too. For example, if you wish to bring about a storm and can find a tree that is scarred from lightning, you’ve hit the jackpot. A bit of charred bark would be the perfect proxy object for a spell to bring about a storm. 

Sympathetic magic can be subtle, or it can be a grandiose display of awesomeness, but that’s entirely your prerogative. I quite like the idea of standing on a heath in a cloak, waving a lightning-charged branch in the air to summon a storm, but I know that my limits are closer to changing my thinking by writing down my negative thoughts and literally eating my words (on sugar paper with edible pens! Be safe!).

Correspondences of: Carrier & Essential Oils

This is a long post, the correspondences are under the cut.

Carrier Oils: Carrier oils, known also as base oils, are used to dilute essential oils before they are applied topically. They serve as the base for oil blends. 

Essential Oils: Essential oils are concentrated liquids that contain the volatile (”the tendency of a substance to vaporize") aromatic compounds of plants. They are obtained via distillation and the oil alone should never be applied to the skin directly as some a reactive to heat, and light, and some will give you chemical burns. You are likely to have a reaction to essential oils.

Carrier Oils:

ALMOND OIL, SWEET (Prunus Dulcis) Ruled by Mercury and the Element of Air. Sweet Almond Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with prosperity, money and wisdom.

APRICOT KERNEL OIL (Prunus Armeniaca) Ruled by Venus and the Element of Water. This makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with love or emotions.

AVOCADO OIL (Persea Americana) Ruled by Venus and the Element of Water. This makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with love, lust or beauty.

CASTOR OIL (Ricinus communis) Ruled by Mars and the Element of Fire. Castor oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with protection and absorbing negativity.

COCONUT OIL (Cocos Nucifera) Ruled by the Moon and the Element of Water. Fractionated Coconut Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with purification and protection.

GRAPESEED OIL (Vinis Vinifera) Ruled by the Moon and the Element of Water. Grapeseed Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with fertility money and strengthening mental abilities.

HEMP SEED OIL (Cannabis Sativa) Ruled by the Moon and Saturn and the Element of Water. Hemp Seed Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with healing, love, psychic ability and meditation.

JOJOBA OIL (Simmondsia Chinensis) Ruled by the Moon and the element of Water. Jojoba Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with healing and love.

OLIVE OIL (Olea Europaea) Ruled by the Sun and the Element of Fire. Olive Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with healing, peace, fertility and protection. In many traditions Olive Oil is an all purpose oil.
