as a person who is both trans and intersex, it is incredibly heartbreaking and enraging to see the way transphobic legislation harms both my communities. The bill that just got passed in the house in Idaho, HB 675, specifically has an exception that states that genital mutilation needs to continue to be allowed for intersex children. It makes me fucking furious because these types of bills that ban gender affirming care for trans youth also explictly promote nonconsensual treatment and surgery for intersex youth. It is fucking despicable how much they hate both of us and how willing they are to ignore our bodily autonomy. 

All the right wing arguments about how lifesaving transition is “mutilation” and “sterilizing kids?” In the United States, the people that are actually getting targeted with genital mutilation and nonconsensual hormones are intersex kids, not trans kids. And right wing governments promote and encourage this when it comes to intersex kids. 

As someone who has actually, legitmately dealt with being forced onto HRT (I’m a trans intersex guy who was forced onto estrogen,) it makes me fucking sick to see conservatives using my actual trauma, my pain, to deny trans youth the lifesaving healthcare that they need. They have no right to talk about genital mutilation and nonconsensual HRT while they’re pushing policies that work to eradicate both trans and intersex youth. 

And on a smaller scale, I have to admit it does pain me a bit when I see my trans siblings arguing against these bills by saying stuff like “No one has ever gotten forced onto HRT” or “no one is performing surgery on kids.” It’s true that this is not what’s happening for trans kids, considering how hard it is for trans youth to access any care, but I promise you that this is routinely happening to intersex kids. And it is vital that more people are aware about it because the text of these bills affect us both–both trans and intersex youth are under attack and have been for a long fucking time. Erasing the trauma that intersex youth are going through does not help either of us win liberation. 

As you’re fighting for trans rights, please be aware of how this directly targets intersex youth as well and include intersex people in your activism. Solidarity is so, so crucial.

yknow ever since people realized tumblr isnt dead and have decided to flock here from twitter and tiktok ive seen a huge influx of people in fandom spaces who dont reblog anything. at all.

like, i used to have an art blog with 340 followers. not a ton but not a small amount either given how this website works with creators. and in my experience back then even the ones who only left likes still reblogged other things or at least posted their own stuff. literally the only empty blogs were clearly bots.

but on this New art blog, i've had so many people with fandom-specific headers and icons with actual usernames as urls and some kind of title or description, but have. Nothing. no posts. all they do is like things. and it's always public, too. their following list and their likes list.

and honestly all it makes me think is that these people are New and also don't know how tumblr works. how likes don't give exposure. not even in a "oh, i know it doesn't give exposure, but i'm still going to reblog anyways" way, but in a genuine honest to god straight up doesn't realize tumblr likes don't work like twitter's.

PLEASE please if you're from tiktok or twitter or whatever please reblog people's art both fandom and original if you like it!! and maybe actually pad out your blog's content in some way so people won't potentially see you as a bot and block you.

im begging you guys to be more aware when reblogging from crypto-terfs. like the old dogwhistles they used are falling out of favor for stealth terfs bc people know about them. ("gender critical", rad-anything, suffragette colors, etc.) they are literally stealth just to lure in young ppl with faux-progressive takes before bringing out the straight up hate speech.

if you see a post that has, without context, an otherwise innocuous feminist sounding message, but uses "male/female" for no reason, or makes broad sweeping statements ("x is a solely woman experience" "all women do x"), or brings bs biological essentialism into unrelated things (shit like, men do x because of their genes or chromosomes or however they think it works). basically, if it sounds like easily debunked psuedoscience, it probably is.

here's how it just went for me: saw a post about new cartoon movie about puberty. OP talked about periods and referred to it being experienced only by teen girls. inaccurate, but maybe OP is just ignorant. checked their username. it didn't mention genitalia or "rad" or suffra-anything. innocuous. checked their bio. also innocuous. dsney fan which is cringe but whatever. searched their blog for the term "trans." second post down, immediately found a post calling being trans a cult. ding ding ding! other good search terms for the more stealthy include "rad", "TIMs", "gender", and "female" or "male." you can and should also skim the names of blogs they reblog from since they probably follow terf blogs that ARENT as stealth.

anyway, that's my tips for tailoring my tumbo feed. something about how tumblr reccs you content has changed, so if you accidentally follow a crypto terf, your feed AND your mutuals feeds will suddenly be full of thinly veiled, anti science, pro racist, transphobia. if that happens to you, check ur recent follows for the above dogwhistles. don't engage, just block, maybe warn, and keep your feed chill for urself and trans friends. peace and wuv. 🧙‍♂️
