HOW TO GIVE PERSONALITY TO A CHARACTER
Giving personality to a character is an essential part of character development in storytelling, whether you're writing a novel, screenplay, or creating a character for a role-playing game. Here are some steps and considerations to help you give personality to your character:
Understand Their Backstory:
Start by creating a detailed backstory for your character. Where were they born? What were their childhood experiences like? What significant events have shaped their life? Understanding their past can help you determine their motivations, fears, and desires.
2. Define Their Goals and Motivations:
Characters often become more interesting when they have clear goals and motivations. What does your character want? It could be something tangible like a job or a romantic relationship, or it could be an abstract desire like happiness or freedom.
3. Determine Their Strengths and Weaknesses:
No one is perfect, and characters should reflect this. Identify your character's strengths and weaknesses. This can include physical abilities, intellectual skills, and personality traits. Flaws can make characters relatable and three-dimensional.
4. Consider Their Personality Traits:
Think about your character's personality traits. Are they introverted or extroverted? Shy or outgoing? Kind or selfish? Create a list of traits that describe their character. You can use personality frameworks like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or the Big Five Personality Traits as a starting point.
5. Give Them Quirks and Habits:
Quirks and habits can make a character memorable. Do they have a specific way of speaking, a unique fashion style, or an unusual hobby? These details can help bring your character to life.
6. Explore Their Relationships:
Characters don't exist in isolation. Consider how your character interacts with others. What are their relationships like with family, friends, and enemies? These relationships can reveal a lot about their personality.
7. Show, Don't Tell:
Instead of explicitly telling the audience about your character's personality, show it through their actions, dialogue, and decisions. Let the reader or viewer infer their traits based on their behavior.
8. Create Internal Conflict:
Characters with internal conflicts are often more engaging. What inner struggles does your character face? These can be related to their goals, values, or past experiences.
9. Use Character Arcs:
Consider how your character will change or grow throughout the story. Character development is often about how a character evolves in response to the events and challenges they face.
10. Seek Inspiration:
Draw inspiration from real people, other fictional characters, or even historical figures. Study how people with similar traits and backgrounds behave to inform your character's actions and reactions.
11. Write Dialogue and Inner Monologues:
Writing dialogue and inner monologues from your character's perspective can help you get inside their head and understand their thought processes and emotions.
12. Consider the Setting:
The setting of your story can influence your character's personality. For example, a character who grows up in a war-torn environment may have a different personality than one raised in a peaceful, affluent society.
13. Revise and Refine:
Don't be afraid to revise and refine your character as you write and develop your story. Characters can evolve and change as the narrative unfolds.
Remember that well-developed characters are dynamic and multi-faceted. They should feel like real people with strengths, weaknesses, and complexities. As you write and develop your character, put yourself in their shoes and think about how they would react to various situations. This will help you create a compelling and believable personality for your character.

Please, do not mourn for me. This was all my fault—and this is how I fix it.
After penning a message to his loved ones, Gale had set off from Waterdeep to get as far away as he could. He was going to end his life to put an end to the Netherese orb once and for all. Of course, then his carefully laid plan was thwarted when he was abducted by mindflayers and whisked into an adventure.

Williams had shoved the flimsy book behind her back, but the faint flush on her cheeks made it worth the slight misdirection it took to distract her and tug it out of its hiding place.
"Justiciar Justice?" Aedan's head tipped, as she flicked open the colorful cover- this one featuring a particularly buff asari in a plunging neckline- "What is it, like porn?"
"No, it's just a comic book!" Her tanned cheeks were bright red, now. "Y'know, illustrated stories?"
"I know what a comic book is, Williams." But she handed it back.
"Picked it up on the Citadel. Warrior monks in space sounded fun. And you did say I should expand my, uh, cultural horizons."
"I'm pretty sure I didn't say it like that."

@painterofhorizons - That job was so much fun! I worked in Flight Attendant Administration with someone else. We were responsible for a number of things, but she ran the medical/leave side and I was running the "paperwork" side of things (not sure exactly how to categorize it). One of the things FAs had to do on each flight was complete a quick trip summary. Especially if there was an 'incident' on board (that could be something as simple as someone tripped on the way to their seat, the emergency doors being opened, someone having a medical emergency, etc. Basically, anything "out of the ordinary" happening). Those were sent back to our department and I was responsible for looking through them and spotting any immediate issues then filing them away in case they were ever needed for follow up investigations (and often times they were). I read some really interesting stories, let me tell you!, and a few times even had to get further involved with the investigations down the line. I found it fascinating, to say the least! (my mystery/story loving mind coming up with all sorts of ideas, let me tell you! lol) But, alas, it was a small airline and a year and a half after I joined, they downsized (lovely to get a 'you're being laid off' notice two days before your birthday). They lasted another year or so before going completely under, I think. It was too bad. They were a great place to work and I really enjoyed the job!

15 Questions and 15 Friends
I was tagged by @mtreebeardiles and (sort of) @shadoedseptmbr, so here we go.
Not sure I have fifteen people I can tag, but (no pressure!) how about @painterofhorizons, @tiny-banana-time, @keriweird, @happychica, @wrathbites, and anyone else who would like to participate! <3
Are you named after anyone?
Two grandmothers and a great grandmother (and great aunt with the same name)
When was the last time you cried?
Technically, just a few minutes ago while laughing my ass off at a tumblr post? Outside of that, not sure. Painful tears I try to forget ASAP, and happy ones usually just leave me with a smile. :)
Do you have kids?
Yup! Kiddo in his mid-20s and two rambunctious 6 year old (probably teenaged) cats.
What sports do you play/have you played?
Oh gosh, here we go. starting waaaaay back in the day and moving forward...swimming, softball, volleyball, basketball, does cheerleading count?, (manager) soccer, (horseback) riding. (I count the soccer because it counted as PE credit in college)
Do you use sarcasm?
Nahhhh, whatever gave you that idea? (Whenever possible.)
What is the first thing you notice about people?
Their eyes. Their smile. Their voice.
What is your eye color?
Ummm...Technically, I'm listed as brown, but ever since high school, there's been a vague hint of green in there? So I guess I'd say hazel at this point.
Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy Endings 1000000000% I can't do scary. It's never been my thing.
What are your hobbies?
Knitting, crocheting, spinning, sewing, writing, gaming (video and tabletop): basically, CREATING
Do you have any pets?
Two cats, as stated above. Today they were my eclipse buddies.
Tumblr media
How tall are you?
At my tallest 5'4", but have started the inevitable shrinking process, so not sure where I'm at right now
Favorite subject in school?
High School: Choir and French
College: history, history, history
Dream Job?
Actually had it for a year and a half about twenty years ago before the airline industry started to get weird and our airline folded. Worked as a Flight Attendant Administration Assistant. It was a blast and I would have gone on much longer if I could have!
