I feel you. about five years ago I made the decision to start using my full name rather than the nickname I used as a child. I wanted to leave childishness behind and embrace adulthood and to honor the parents who gave me that name, but now my friend/rival keeps using that same childhood nickname rather than my full name and it just seems sort of off, like he's trying to squeeze me into a box which I don't fit into.

Ugh, was having a great time mocking my recently imprisoned rival when I noticed the camera positioning makes it so that I appear behind the bars, thus framing me as trapped in a metaphorical prison of the narrative, now my whole day is ruined. Fuck.

I'm pretty sure there is one kandra out there who is specifically messing with Kaladin by 1) getting into places a horse should not be able to reach and 2) shapeshifting into a horse, but only when only Kaladin can see them.

Hmmm. For 1 (best book I've read this year)? I've been relistening to Sherlock Holmes but I would have to say the Cosmere stuff I've been reading. Probably The Way of Kings or Words of Radiance. Because dang. Them books good.

Mistborn is also fantastic but something about Kaladin's story just really resonates with me...

For 35, a trope I hate in a genre I love, I think this is true in every genre but the kind of miscommunication that ruins lives. Hard ick for me. For fantasy specifically, I hate stories where women's roles are reduced to the dualistic alternatives of traditional housewife and warrior princess. And worse, when the story lauds a woman just for not being a traditional housewife... I like stories that let women have rich interior lives and not be squished into one-dimensional, dualistic archetypes. Let the warriors want to be moms! Let the moms be political leaders, merchants, crucial to trade and public life!

Another thing I don't like seeing is people not showing respect to the people they're in relationships with and ruining friendships on an impulse. Why.
