My current D&D character, a human sea captain named Stanley Robin. Inspired heavily by the song "Tale of The Shadow" by Sail North, Robin has been cursed and his soul bound to a ghost ship who is now his warlock patron. He is blind, relying on a medallion of blindsight which gives him vision in his immediate area, but he primarily relies on his parrot-like pseudodragon familiar for proper sight and navigation. He's a serious but kindly man, a long-time respected captain of a cargo ship renowned for its efficient and unshakable crew. Robin values loyalty and mutual respect above all else, and is a great man to have on your side.

This is Vithaira, my current D&D character! She's a Githzerai monk (Astral Self subclass) struck with partial ceremorphosis (Sorcerer, Aberrant Mind). She's an oddball, 50% brutal killer and 50% total dork. And we aren't going to talk about how--by COMPLETE accident that my fellow players will not let me live down--you can call her Vith the Gith. Or worse: Vith the gish illith gith. I hate it here. 😂 More rambling under the cut!

LONG STORY SHORT--she had an unfortunate battle with some illithids she was hunting. She naturally got the mindflayer tadpole as revenge, but her upbringing was based entirely around mental fortitude and killing illithids so she was able to fight the ceremorphosis with pretty impressive strength. However, it wasn't enough. She still turned into a mindflayer, but her transformation was incomplete. She still retained a few vestiges of her Gith origin, marking her as the bottom of the pecking order because she was so weak and broken. Eventually her old brethren enacted revenge, finding and killing the elder brain and the hivemind she was attached to, "freeing" her. However, a mindflyer--even a crippled one--is not meant to survive alone. So now she travels the lands in disguise, trying to find some other higher power to serve.

She carries a walking stick flute that she used to be quite talented as back when she had a proper mouth, and also has the benefit of being a great monk quarterstaff AND a spellcasting focus magic staff. She's obsessed with unfamiliar animals, and since she grew up in the Limbo dimension and was a mindflayer almost exclusively in the Underdark, she hasn't seen much at all. No matter how fuzzy, toothy, or growly the animal, she has an almost irresistible desire to pet them. So far this hasn't gotten her in trouble, but time will tell!

Plague Raven making a plague doctor? Who would have thought?

Honestly though, this pattern hit all my aesthetic faves. Plague doctors, skulls, rats, hourglasses, monochrome. Absolute winner! It lives on my desk at work now and I've gotten many compliments :D
