So Rooster Teeth is shutting down

My hope is that someone else buys RWBY and keeps the cast and crew and vision of Monty

But know that that is a pipe dream.

I know a lot of people have ignored RWBY because of the hatedom, and I hope the hatedom is happy. You all got what you wanted, so celebrate, I guess.

For me, though, it hurts. RWBY is one of if not my favorite show. It's not perfect, but no show is. I can honestly say every character is a character I could find myself getting invested in. Monty Oum had a beautiful vision, his friends were incredible for trying to see it through even after he passed, and it sucks that this might be how it ends.

The thing I’m trying to keep in mind right now regarding the Rooster Teeth news is this:

RWBY made it nine seasons. Nine. Seasons. Over ten years. For an indie series made by a comparatively small team. That’s more than most big studio shows get.

Even if we never end up seeing the end of it (I’m still holding out hope), even if you never cared about the show or thought it went downhill at some point, you have to admit that that is incredibly admirable.

Monty Oum, Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross wanted to make a show, and they did. And that little show ended up becoming a whole ass franchise with over a hundred episodes and legions of fans all over the world.

And no matter what, I think that’s worth celebrating.

even if we never get anything new for RWBY again no one can say it didn’t end on one of the highest notes possible. v9 was absolutely incredible and I’ll always be thankful it was made

In case RWBY never gets another volume (or if it does but without the original crew), I need to say it really changed my life for the better and it’ll always have a place in my heart. I can’t express just how much this show means to me.

I’m gonna focus on the joy and comfort this show brings me, the people I’ve met because of it — I’m gonna ignore the hate as I’ve always done — and keep moving forward.

Obviously I'm upset that RWBY is most likely been cut off prematurely, and I genuinely am so pissed on behalf of the people who just got stuck in job limbo or now outright have been fired and won't be returning to the content they've been cultivating at RT.

But im also really tired of seeing posts like "man its so sad that this show I watched as a little teen and stopped watching cause i couldn't make it through season 4 is over, oh darn too bad"

Season 8 was a fucking fantastic climax to the atlas arc. I wasn't as big a fan of season 9, but it felt like a transitional season anyway into new things and that's ok to have to.

I will die on the hill that if you binge rwby right now you'll see an upward trend to the seasons over time. Everything improved as they went with only minor lulls where we transitioned to new plots.

It didn't "used to be" a good show.

It fucking is one.

Normally I kept this to tags but I’m going to say this here and now. RWBY changed my god damn life. Not just oh wow this show is really good! But I genuinely was a terrible person before RWBY opened the door and gave me access to the resources to understand why my view point was wrong.

I was young when I discovered RWBY by walking into the house to my sister watching it. At first I was pissed she was on the TV because well what teenager wouldn’t be when it was the only source of entertainment? But I sat and I watched it. I fell in love with it immediately. I binged everything could. I watched every volume available over and over ever single day, watching it in its entirety multiple times a day. And then I went looking for MORE. I couldn’t get enough of it. I found tumblr and I stalked tag after tag after tag. Then I found the tumblr of a member of CRWBY, down and down I went further down their blog for days on end. Let me tell you a secret, tag after tag not a single one was for a gay ship.

Can you guess why?

I was raised highly conservative with a very narrow view point. I am not proud of who I was then but I have come to accept that I was a child then and every day I work to better myself. But on that blog I found post after post of queer and other like thoughts and after a while I started to pause and actually think about what it meant. Slowly but steadily my searches expanded and I found ao3. I really think that was the turning point where I could never retreat back into the small narrow views I was raised to have.

Every day I am reminded of who I could be right now if I have never stumbled across of RWBY if maybe just maybe I just went upstairs instead of sitting down on that couch.

RWBY means so much to me. I owe it and the crew members and the amazing fandom so much and I am so grateful I got to experience nine full seasons of love and joy with everyone. I still remember sitting for hours on end during the marathons before a new volume release.

Thank you CRWBY so much for everything you have done. I never would be the person I am now without the labor of love that is RWBY. It was this very show that kindled my love for animation that I am pursuing to the best of my ability.

My only hope is that people can continue to find and experience RWBY for the first time and the fandom continues to stay strong.

AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).

So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.

Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"

kudos and hits do not indicate the quality of the fic, by the way.

I’ve read so many fics, that aren’t as popular, that are so professionally written that I immediately know the authors even know the characters better than their original creators, respectfully. and so many of those fics made me cry and I’ve always come back to reread them because they’re that good, even if they don’t reach many people. they’re literally in my heart and I even think about them during the day because they’re that special to me.

the bottom line: the number of kudos and hits do not represent whether the work is good or bad.

and if you’re an author, don’t let it discourage you if you think your works don’t get enough hits or kudos.

sometimes the best fics that have ever been written are like a rare treasure, not many people will find them, but I promise you, those who do will cherish them very dearly ♡

I 100% would not pass the screening process to get the job I’ve been doing for a decade now. To be clear: I’m pretty good at it, no one is sad they hired me, but I got this job because I chatted up a pretty girl on a train. She had a boyfriend, but we became friends and she introduced me to the dude who hired me. I don’t even think I did that well in the interview.

Now my team isn’t even given budget to hire in my country. So yeah, shit is ridiculous.
