Friendly reminder to go and get your eyes checked. Especially if you're having any sort of headaches.
For the past 6 months I've had daily headaches which have been making it increasingly hard to focus or study anything. I get a lot of pain around my eyes and looking upwards has been extremely painful and made me dizzy. Finally booked an eye test and found out my prescription has gone up another 0.5-0.75 dioptres and I now have prism glasses to compensate for muscle weakness in both eyes

I wish I could kick myself back into gear with a 30 day challenge but the reality is I work 25 hour shifts as a key worker. This was scheduled as I clocked into work this morning and won't be leaving until tomorrow. Finding the time to study can be so hard when you're tired after work.
So instead I'm going to set myself a goal. I can rest until 3pm but after that I need to get up and start a lesson again. We will get there

Hey guys for anyone who isn't yet using forest I highly recommend it. It helps me so much with studying and gives that extra good feeling of seeing your forest grow.
My favourite thing about it is being able to save up coins from focussing and using it to plant real trees.
If you want to try forest feel free to become my friend using this code.

lazy study tips
1. use quizlet. quizlet is amazing because you can access your flashcards on your phone!! this way you can easily flip through them while waiting in line, watching tv, etc.
2. use the pomodoro technique. if you’re lazy like i am, sitting down for 6+ hours a day to study can be daunting. giving yourself multiple breaks throughout a study session will help to keep you going!
3. watch youtube videos. watching videos or listening to podcasts on the topic you’re studying could be a huge time saver and is a lot more interesting than flipping through a textbook. and you can easily do this in bed!! (i would not advise to do this instead of using a textbook all together just in case information is left out of the video)
4. try to build a steady study routine. block out a chunk of time in the middle of the day every day for studying. this way, you know that when the time is up, you have the rest of the day to relax!
5. get sleep. i’ve found that i’m at my laziest when i haven’t been sleeping much. avoid being sluggish throughout the day and get some rest! this will cut back on nap/rest time and increase productivity during the day.
6. consider the consequences of not studying. which will benefit you more in the long run- getting your work done now, or watching another episode?
7. reward yourself. give yourself a little treat (a piece of candy, etc.) after completing a set amount of work. this will keep you motivated to keep studying!
8. just start. the hardest part of studying is starting- force yourself to sit down and open up your notes.
as always, thanks for reading! x

Time to finish learning about non genetic transmission of behaviours.
If anyone wants a new friend on forest please message me. Especially if you'd like to do study groups or anything. Due to lockdown I've not known anyone in uni or had any study friends.

Excuse the rushed handwriting. Today I completed my mental health first aid training which was amazing.
Something I would reccomend looking into is The Lions Barber Collective
These are hair and beauty shops that are trained in listening out for mental health stresses and risks and can help signpost people to other services which may be able to support their mental health.
This is an amazing initiative. If you go to their website and click Locate a Lion you can find if there are any shops near you. The majority are in the UK as it is a UK based charity however these are also located in America, mainland Europe, a couple in Canada and even one in Kenya.

Finally getting back into the swing of things!
Today's lesson is on speciation. Also I'm on forest and apparently my study buddy is a lemon so if anyone is a lemon or apple (I came out as both bamboo and coconut) please feel free to let me know and find me on here or forest.

concept: chaotic academia
it’s not as pretty and put together as dark academia
you’re wearing two cardigans, mismatched socks and some jeans that are bordering on “just about clean enough”. nothing will stand between you and your next cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and adding extra sugar.
emptying your pockets at the end of the day and coming to a total of four pens, a pocket notebook, two receipts, and a highlighter.
your hair keeps falling in your face. you use a rubber band to tie it back. your fringe falls in your face. a paperclip is used to keep it back for the next ten minutes. you probably need a haircut.
the floor is the best place to study. there are so many books and pages of notes scattered around that the carpet can’t be seen anymore.
a rush before you leave class. your ID? got it. keys? got them. wait, where did your ID go again..? did you put your phone in your backpack or in any of the nine pockets on your person.
trash is piled up neatly in the corner, ready to be put into a rubbish bag and taken out. you’ll do it tomorrow, you say. you said the exact same thing last week.
you’re typing and you miss a letter. you go back to fix it. you miss a different letter. you go back to fix it. somehow you have fewer letters than you started with. you take it as a sign to take a break.
it’s time for a quick break. half an hour later you realise that you still haven’t gone back to work. Whoops.

Today is a battle between unpleasant memories and anxieties for the future. There is both good and bad ahead and I need to work on accepting them both as they come. Because they will.
Edited an essay. Lost my plan for the conclusion. Added all the information to my textbook spread. Sent off to the powers that be. Hopefully will locate my notes and finish the essay. On to Danish now.
