This entire Columbia University atrocity reminds me of how a student at my university send out an open letter to demand our university breaks their ties with an Israeli university and everyone could sign their name to it.

None and I mean noneeee of my professors from my faculty were on it. Many of whom I know are tenured. I’m in social sciences and humanities … fucking disgusting.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how elitist academia is these last couple of months for various reasons but my god it is not the tool of education it should be. It does not educate students like it should. My professors cannot even use their secure tenured positions to sign an open letter demanding our uni breaks their ties with Israeli universities when we are lucky enough to live in a country that has been primarily supportive of Palestine.

i shit on my country a lot cuz there is a lot wrong with it but now cuz of my thesis i have to research statistics for my country on various topics compared to various other countries and i'm honestly astounded at how wel ?? we do ?? compared to so many others? like on the topics that matter in the social area etc. like damn

but also damn that's just a very depressing observation about the state of the world overall.

and also damn cuz we're about to have elections and populism is alive and welll in my country and if there is one thing my research shows is that populism is by far the number one thing that leads democracies into backsliding and their downfall which in turn is just very bad for like so many different people and reasons. so fun fun fun

i have been trying to download a dataset for a month (on and off) for my thesis but it's an extremely large file and every single free app available and even teh paid ones i already had on my computer couldn't open it or handle it once it was open.

but then i finally saw the light and thought maybe my uni offers free licensing to one of the apps that does open this dataset???

and i was right 😭😭😭😭

it's a statistical program tho so chances that i'll understand any of it are like slim to none lol

I have Dermatographia, also called skin writing, a condition that causes an allergic reaction when skin is scratched. Im and I have the “fun” variant of the skin writing itching like crazyyyy once the allergic reaction is activated which causes me to scratch more which causes more skin writing etc.

Anyway because of the pollen I am incredibly itchy all over so skin writing occurs etc. I normally take allergy meds (2 pills) and it’s okayish at keeping it sorta at bay but now cuz the pollen are officially back it’s worse.

So I went to the doc and long story short we decided I would just up my current allergy med cuz I also have a strong reaction to certain side effects of medication: an unsatiated feeling after eating. For some reason if that is a side effect you could have, I will without a doubt have it very strongly. I’ll eat and not even 30 minutes later it’ll feel like I haven’t eaten in 2 days.

So we decided to stick with the med I’m taking right now and just up it cuz we know it works for me and unfortunately a lot of meds have that unsatiated feeling as a potential side effect. The dr did tell me that the med I take also have a chance of unsatiated feeling but I hadn’t felt anything thankfully and I’ve been using it for 2 years.

So I took my first extra pill last night so 3 instead of 2. And now it’s the next day and I’ve been awake for about 7 hours and I’ve literally been hungry every single hour 😭😭😭😭. I’ve been eating every single hour since I woke up

So we’re back to two pills lol

I literally cannot do excel. I am using it to keep track of my literature review and only use 42 rows. I altered some things so copy pasted it into a new tab and it was so. Fucking. Slow???

I spent 4 HOURSSS filling in an application to an internship that I desperately want to have. Only to then realize that it’s specifically for minorities 😭😭😭 which I am not hahahahah so I did all that work for nothing. I mean I’m never gonna get hired anyway but if I had just read it better I wouldn’t have even filled in the application cuz I very crucially am not a minority lol

so i have a thesis advisor but he's is literally so fucking shite and bad at explaining basically anything that i went and hired out someone who's entire job exists of helping people with making their thesis: he's not doing my thesis, he's basically like a hired and additional thesis advisor who is doing the job that my thesis advisor SHOULD be doing but is not doing.

anyway my thesis advisor all of a sudden tells me i should just research 1 year which makes literally zero fucking sense to me????? and i go to the hired thesis advisor and the hired thesis advisor is literally like??????????? "it seems impossible to me to do what you need to do if you only research 1 year?????"

this man who has been tutoring people for years, who has a phd and 2 masters and who's entire jobs exists of being a thesis advisor can't even comprehend the fucking advice my thesis advisor is giving me ....

like what the hell am i supposed to do then???????
