Ever since she was five, it has ONLY been her father and her. The closest maternal figure in her life was her governess who had grown to be family by the end of her adolescence. As much as she adores her papa, there is a sense of loneliness that overcomes her at times.

“I wouldn’t dare to say anything false,” Angélique insists with a smile. A small gasp leaves her when he draws her towards him. “Oh shush, you’re going to get us caught.” She gently chides, only to reciprocate the gesture.

"Maybe they could join the circus for a guest performance with it, though." Which is definitely an interesting thought as well. "But yes, just be careful for a couple of days, rest the injured part and you'll be as good as new soon enough,"

“I’m pretty sure his record is four, last time I checked. One sittin’ on his shoulders, one on his back, and one in each arm. That’s how he corralled 'em last time he tried it out. Though they’s gettin’ a little taller now, so it might be trickier…”

Well, the twins are getting taller, anyway. Splasher is still resolutely pretty tiny, which is good for selling, and his appetite is strong enough so Race isn’t too worried. He still sneaks some of his food to the kid though, just in case. He’s got most of his growing done after all, Splasher’s still got plenty to do, same with Mike and Ike and Henry.

"I take that as a NO?" He chuckles, reaching up to brush a strand of hair behind her ear, a motion that had become so familiar to him it's as easy as breathing, really. "I suppose we should kiss, just to heed the tradition." His lips are curved into a smile as he leans in to brush their lips together then, a short and sweet kiss, not nevertheless filled with love and adoration.

The holiday season would not be complete without the young lovers ending up under the mistletoe at some point. Being Buddhist, none of her religious events occurred during this time of year. Thus, she has celebrated a secular form of Christmas ever since she could recall. Angélique has grown fonder of such events, now that she knows their friends and Davey amongst all others. It would perhaps be cliche to say that holidays with a loved one cannot be beat.

It's nothing NEW for them to end up under a mistletoe together. Davey, though usually not one to celebrate Christmas, had gotten roped into Christmas parties for as long as he can remember being friends with Jack and the rest of the boys from their friend group, and he does enjoy the fact that they all get to spend some time together.

"Fancy seeing you here, Miss." He chuckles, wrapping his arms around her waist to pull her in closer. "Do you come here often?"

“Someone’s gotta tire ‘em out before bedtime. Tryin’ to get them all to sleep is a task an’ a half sometimes.” That’s one way of putting it anyway. As it currently stands, they’ve got six kids under the age of ten that sleep in the lodging house, and a handful more who are just over that age and slowly working their way into the slightly more grown groups. The middles aren’t too bad for getting themselves to bed, but the littles like to put up a struggle.

“Tire em out enough, then Finch’ll tell them some story and they drop right off. Works like a charm.” And if it doesn’t, then Albert will threaten to sit on them if they get up, which also usually works pretty well from experience, though thankfully it hasn’t been needed too much.

“Yeah, I get that. I mean…it’s hard enough getting Les to go to sleep,” Davey replies with a smile, thinking of all the long nights they’d spend doing exactly THAT. And multiply that by six? Oof. He finishes cleaning the wound before dressing it, pulling back with a smile. “All done, you should recover just fine.”

“Though I suggest you lay low with activities that tire the kids out for at least one or two days. Maybe you can make them play some games instead, and be the referee?”
