Witchcraft and poetry are inseparable for me. What is a poem but a spell, every word woven with care and intention? A poem has the potential to craft new worlds, to open a portal into unseen realities, to rewild our hearts and souls. Poetry is spellcraft.

Do you have any good books or resources in mind for someone interested in palmistry?
I've been meaning to get into it, but don't know where to start.
Hi! This is a wonderful question, so I'll break this down into parts.
Firstly, I'm actually currently searching for good books myself to recommend to others. I've ordered a few and I'm currently reading through them, so I'll absolutely make another post or reblog this ask when I find something accurate and reputable.
As far as resources to avoid, honestly, tiktok videos and most pinterest graphics I've seen are all on parlor palmistry, which I mention in my Palmistry 100 post here.
The best resource I can mention and 100% recommend at this time are learning from other palmists. I first started learning from a professor who was doing a two day class on the basics, which, if I recall correctly, she learned from both her grandmother and palmists in her native country.
I don't want to recommend resources that I don't 100% agree with, so I'm sorry I don't have much else to mention at this time. Hopefully, I'll find something good soon!

Palmistry 100
Okay so these aren't exactly notes per se, but this is the first post in a series I'm planning to make about palmistry, and this post is dedicated to breaking down misconceptions and false information that I've seen a lot of people hold onto in their palmistry practice.
This post is a bit long, so I've put everything under the cut!
So first off:
Palmistry doesn't tell you "the future", it's not at all like typical divination methods where you can divine stuff about the future (knowing that it's always changing of course). Palmistry also doesn't tell you when you're going to die or the cause of death like is shown in plenty of movies and shows.
Palmistry does give you insight into someone's character, both externally and internally (which we'll get into later on). A good palmist can also offer advice about strengths and weaknesses in someone's personality, and offer communication techniques as well.
Anyone can learn palmistry, regardless of intuitive abilities or background.
A very common misconception is that because the practice is referred to as "palmistry" that only the lines on the hand are read. This is false, as the entirety of the hand is read from the major and minor lines, to skin texture, to finger length, angles of some knuckles, dermatoglyphics (fingerprints and palmar ridges), and even the way someone holds out their hand for you to read. You can actually get a very solid reading based on finger length, skin texture, and dermatoglyphics alone without reading into the major and minor lines on the palm.
Another common misconception is that only one hand—the dominant hand—is read. Any good palmist knows to read both hands and they would show different aspects of someone (this is something I'll go more in depth on in the next post)
And last but not least, the palms—or hands, rather—change over time. Skin texture, minor lines, knuckles, the plushiness of the thumb, and other signs will change over time, especially with age. I can point out specific minor lines on my own palms and say "This one wasn't here 6 years ago," or "This one has gotten deeper and more prominent in the past 4 years," or "There used to be a line right about here 2 years ago." A good way to keep track of changes is with taking a print, which I'll also explain in the next post.
Also, not a misconception, but something I see in a lot of palmistry resources is gendered language. I find that relying on gender to determine different qualities of a factor in someone's hand is lazy, cheap, and exclusionary. My younger brother has some qualities on his hands that are considered "feminine" or "usually found on a woman's hands," and I don't subscribe to that sort of language when reading palms because it's often exclusionary and doesn't offer any information or true insight. You can't take something as diverse as people's hands and try to shove them into two boxes, it doesn't work that way.
Also not a misconception, but something I want to address now before moving forward with this series of posts is a brief note about "parlor palmistry" and "elemental hand shapes". I'm sure many of you have seen those posts going around explaining the different elemental hand shapes, and I'm not going to discount it; because when I was a beginner in palmistry, I used to base a lot of my knowledge of someone off of the basic shape of their hand, and I was usually fairly accurate. I consider this part of parlor palmistry, which is usually done in very brief readings and is mainly for entertainment. It offers a very broad look at someone's personality without much deep insight. And it's perfectly fine to do in the right setting, like at summer camps or cafes, or doing a free reading in the break room at work. Parlor palmistry should never be done for profit, however, as it offers no real and deep insight, sorta like trying to tell someone details about their inner ways of thinking based only off of knowing that they're a capricorn. So that being said, we won't be going over parlor palmistry in this series—we'll be going into the nitty gritty details of true palmistry.
So there we have it, those are some common misconceptions and brief points about palm reading that I wanted to make before we get started with this series. Also, as this is a very visual practice, I will be using real pictures and diagrams to show certain points when necessary, because I personally can't stand reading about palmistry and not being able to see an example of what they're talking about!
I'm still drafting out how I want to format these posts, especially when I get into more detailed topics (I'm afraid of the dermatoglyphics posts, I'm going to need sooo many example photos). So if y'all have any questions about anything or points you want me to explain/cover, please feel free to comment under this post or send me an ask or message.
I'm absolutely going to start collecting pictures now from any willing volunteers. If you have any marks or lines or features you think would make for a good example in my posts, please send them my way! Anyone who sends me a picture will get a brief explanation of the visible features as a thankyou :)

re; pinned post on black tourmaline meme... so i have a lot of crystals (use em in spells mostly idk what i'm doing with them) how do you use black tourmaline as a ward, is it like a charm you carry with you? :>
Alrighty buckle up because I'm about to ramble.
Black tourmaline is absolutely one of my favourite crystals, like actually in my top 3.
I keep little bowls of it around, because it is incredible at absorbing the negative energy off of stuff. So at the end of the day—especially if I was around lots of people—I'll take any crystal jewelry off and plop it in my black tourmaline bowl to cleanse it. I also have a black tourmaline necklace my mother made for me that I wear out on days I know I'm going to be interacting with a lot of people, which I also make sure to cleanse in my bowl.
When it comes to objects, I smoke cleanse first with sandalwood incense and then plop them in the bowl so any straggling negativity can get cleansed too.
Now, black tourmaline is not self-cleansing, so you'll need to cleanse it every so often. Enter blue kyanite, also in my top 3. Blue kyanite is an absolute beast when it comes to cleansing other crystals, even better than selenite in my opinion, so I use them together. I have a layer of blue kyanite in my bowl, and then a layer of black tourmaline on top. You may be wondering why have the black tourmaline? Shouldn't I just cut out the middleman? I don't recommend that based on my personal experience. The black tourmaline sucks the negative energy out of crystals and other objects, then the blue kyanite dissolves that negative energy. They work together.
When it comes to using black tourmaline as a ward, it's actually quite simple. Take a few chunks of it and put them in the corners of your room, or around your house. Every couple of weeks, cleanse them however you prefer that is safe (I prefer blue kyanite as mentioned above) and then put them back. The black tourmaline will absorb any negativity within the space they occupy. I would recommend using a black tourmaline ward in tandem with other kinds of wards, and not by itself.
As a charm, just carrying it in your pocket or as jewelry is fantastic since it'll suck all the negativity you interact with on a daily basis. Just make sure to cleanse it every time you use it of course. I find that black tourmaline is perfect for helping to absorb the evil eye (a particularly nasty one may still linger though), and is a huge help to me when working with people, since it absorbs any negativity that is sticking to you. I always had black tourmaline with me when I used to work retail (and omg could I tell the difference in the few days I forgot it), and it's always with me when I read palms. Lots of negativity can get stuck to you when you're interacting with other people.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions :)

Would you like me to post pictures of hands in the palmistry tags? I'm not expecting any readings, but typically people need SOMETHING to study, right?
That'd be awesome! Clear pictures of hands is the best resource for people getting into palmistry. I actually recommend beginners to read off of pictures since pictures are often more accessible than in-person willing participants AND because you're reading without any pressure.
It's also fantastic to study the hands of well-known people or "celebrities", because you can draw better comparisons while reading people's hands in person. Like telling people that Hillary Clinton has a simian line too, or that Jim Carrey is someone who also has long ring fingers.
Also, reading from a complete stranger's palms allows beginners to read without bias, and helps them to practice accuracy within their readings, which is suuuper important.

hello!! heard you're into palmistry. if i recall correctly, palmistry is a form of divination right? what do you like about it? :)
-Sirius
Hi! Palmistry is probably one of my favourite forms of introspection. I'm weary in considering it a form of divination since you can't exactly divine answers about the future from it. True palmistry tells you more about the inner workings and the actions about the person whose hands you're reading. And as a palmist, you can give advice based off of those things.
Like for example, I read a woman's palms on Saturday that strongly indicated she was torn between two choices and one of which would be a better option for her. She then opened up to me about how she was considering switching her career and I was able to give her advice on which choice I believed would be a better fit for her and she explained to me how that was the option she was more strongly considering.
I think the best comparison would be astrology. It's more something you use for introspective reasons rather than divinatory ones like with tarot.
I love palmistry though, because all you need to do it is a willing participants hand, compared to astrology—which can be great—but you need a lot of personal info to do it, like someone's time and location of birth. I also find palmistry to be more accessible in that aspect, because you can still do it for people who may not know their time and location of birth or don't feel comfortable sharing it.
I'm just so passionate about palmistry lol, I love connecting with people, especially while reading palms in person :)
Thankyou for your ask! And I hope my answer was helpful or interesting at the very least.

Thankyou! I am as well. I'm working on splitting everything up in more manageable chunks and figuring out how I'm going to organize all the posts on my blog so they can be viewed chronologically. But I'm sure I'll figure it all out :D

Internet is back!!! Well, it has been back for a couple days now in all honesty, but I was really busy making final preparations for my first renn faire, where I actually had a palmistry booth set up! It was a blast, I just wish I got more pictures haha.
Now that I finally have some free time, I'm going to start working on sending everyone their palmistry readings. Thankyou so much again for your patience!
Hey guys!! I'm so sorry I disappeared for a couple days, we had a tornado of all things pop up where I live here in West Virginia and it knocked out the internet in my area. I'm currently posting from a spot with good signal that I drove out to, and I'm not quite sure when the internet will be coming back on. But when it does, I'll respond to everyone's messages asap!
I'm so sorry for the delay, thankyou for your understanding (and hand pics!!)

Former Marshall's employee chiming in:
Marshall's/TJ Maxx alwaaays has OPI nail polish for like 4-5 bucks iirc, and they frequently get Essie polishes too that are cheaper than other stores.
They also have Kara Beauty eyeshadow palettes near constantly and they're great with plenty of colours and low prices too.
There's also tons of jewelry you can get for under $10 that you can enchant or utilize for colour magic, or both!
Their candle section is divine, and you can find so many amazing scents in there. I specifically recommend DW Home, since they're well-scented, burn nicely, and they're well-priced.
The home sections (and HomeGoods ofc) have amazing decor and in recent years will have chunks of crystals like rose quartz or selenite towers and really pretty agate bookends sometimes too.
They also sometimes have those little glass boxes that you can use to store your crystals.
The notebook sections are great, and you can grab many a grimoire here. They also have fantastic planners in the beginning of the year
Okay I'm about to teach y'all about the sales and such.
Because Marshalls and TJ Maxx are discount stores, they don't have regular sales throughout the year and they also don't have Black Friday deals. They're open on Black Friday, but they don't have lower prices or anything like that.
In my state at least (WV), they have a tax-free weekend before school starts where people can buy a bunch of school clothes completely tax-free. Other items are included in this, but I can't remember what exactly. Call your local store and ask them if they have a tax-free weekend!
ALSO about the pricetags: a red tag means something has been marked down. If it stays on the shelves/racks without being sold for a few weeks, they mark it down again. You can usually watch big appliances get marked down a couple times before they sell. This is a risky game to play because someone else might snatch up whatever it is that you're watching.
HOWEVER a YELLOW tag means that it's the lowest possible price, it will not get marked down more than that.
The BEST time to shop at these stores is the period right after Christmas and a little bit after new years (I think specifically December 25-Jan 5) because TONS of stuff will get yellow-tagged in order to make room for new stock. So basically, the whole damn store turns into the clearance section when they do this.
And here's some more insider info: employees get a 10% off discount that applies at every location. So even though I was employed by Marshall's, I still used my discount at TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. AND a few times a year, they have a 20% off weekend for employees. So if you were wondering about what perks you get working there, there ya go.
Also they will frequently discount stuff on the spot while you're buying it if you ask and have a valid reason. Like if the packaging of a product is really beat up/torn and maybe even broken (and yes, the product inside is still good), and you ask for it to be discounted, they'll most likely do it for you while you're checking out. Don't be afraid to ask because the worst they can do is say no!
I completely hijacked OP's post, I'm sorry! I just get really passionate about good deals 😭
So, you just realized you're a witch...
Well here's a guide to some things you might find helpful.
If it's something tangible, chances are you might already own some of these things, if not please don't stress about getting them. For some items I will include stores that you can find them as well as price points using the dollar symbol.
Candles
These can be in the form of chime candles, pillar, taper, glass, votive, tea light, etc.
You can get them in various colors but if you are trying to save money you can get white candles. And add your intention and herbs (or just your intention) to achieve your desired outcome.
They can be found at:
The Dollar Tree ($)- Best for votive, pillar, taper, tea light, jar, floating, and glass candles. They can often be found in multiple colors and scents.
Michael's craft store ($-$$) - Best for tall/large pillar and taper candles.
JoAnn Craft store ($-$$)- Best for the same candles as Michael's craft store.
Metaphysical shops ($-$$) - Chime candles and speciality candles such as glass candles with writing on them (exp: love, Orisha, justice candles) and figure candles.
Stores that sell scented candles ($$) - Examples of stores like this are Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candles. These are best for looking for candles that have scents that correspond with your particular spell. For instance, if you're doing a peace spell you may want to look for a candle that smells of lavender or a candle that puts you in a peaceful state of mind regardless of the scent name or ingredients.
Incense
Incense are excellent for air magick and you can often find them rather cheaply in most stores. I personally try to find them as toxin free as possible but you purchase what incense makes the most sense for you. Just as with candle scents, look for incense that either corresponds with your spell by the herb they are supposed to smell like or by feeling.
The Dollar Tree ($) - The ones I've been too have mainly been good for chakra incense.
Etsy ($) - There are multiple sellers with a lot of different scents and quite a few with free shipping!
Magick.com ($)
Amazon ($)
Metaphysical store ($)
Herbs
If you decide that you want to work with herbs you can usually get away with the ones you already have. However, I would caution against burning herbs that aren't organic but of course that is your decision to make. Some places to get herbs are:
The Dollar Tree (they don't have organic but they have a decent selection)
Your local grocery store
Target
Walmart
Metaphysical store
Note: If you can't find the herb you may want to consider using the essential oil instead. Only use a drip of the essential oil. You can also get a tea bag with the herb you need, rip it open, and use that.
Nail Polish
Color magick is the main thing here, but I have come across some scented nail polishes as well. Either way, you can choose a color and/or scent that corresponds to your spell. Here are some affordable brands (by that I mean the polishes from their main collection are not over $10.)
Wet n' Wild
Esssie
LA Colors
Revlon
Sally Hansen
L'Oreal
CoverGirl
L.A. Girl
Cosmetics
I know a lot of people typically include nail polish in this group but I tend to save this category for things such as lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and blush. Once again, the main purpose of this category is color magick but it can also be used for glamour magick. Some brands are:
elf cosmetics ($)
Wet n' Wild ($)
Revlon ($) - Mainly their lipsticks
Rimmel ($) - Lipstick and Blush
Nyx ($)
Revolution Beauty ($)
Essence Cosmetics ($)
Divination
If you are interested in divination there are so many types that you can easily find one that you connect with. Some forms of divination are:
Bibliomancy
Pyromancy
Tarot, oracle, and playing cards
Osteomancy
Water scrying
Crystal scrying
Mirror scrying
Automatic Writing
Tasseomancy
Pendulums
Types of Magick/Witches
It is not necessarily important that you pick a particular type of magick but I think some witches take being able to study multiple types of magick at once for granted. Not everyone is able to maintain focus while looking at magick as a whole, that's why I think separating magick and witches into types can be helpful. This is by no means a complete list but it's a start.
Celestial/cosmic magick
Elemental magick
Green witch
Hedge witch
Water magick
Earth magick
Air magick
Fire magick
Draconic witch
Eclectic witch
Lunar magick
Solar magick
Fairy magick
Kitchen magick
Sea witch
Candle magick
Ceremonial magick
This is by no means a comprehensive list and I will likely add more things to it over time or create more lists similar to this one. But I hope this was at least somewhat helpful!

Aight I see this post has garnered some interest
So I'm currently drafting the first post in a series talking about palmistry and such. The first post is mainly breaking down misconceptions and talking a little bit about how I'm going to move forward with sharing my knowledge about palmistry.
Also, I will be accepting hand pictures at this time over DM or email. I can't guarantee a full reading for everyone, because a full reading requires both hands and because I don't know how many people are going to send pictures, plus I have a job and a booked event I'm prepping for and other stuff too. Just please be patient with me lol, I'll try to send everyone a basic reading or an explanation of the markings in the pictures at the very least.
As far as pictures go, please send me closeups of any mark or line you think is interesting. Chances are that it is! Also I'll definitely need pictures of fingerprints if anyone is willing to send a good photo of one, especially different patterns. And if you're sending pictures of your full palms, please make sure that it is clear without blurriness and that your minor lines are easily visible. You'll probably want to send multiple from different angles so I can pick out the best one.
To get around character limits, I'll do some readings (like full hand or full palm) in a PDF so I can also include the images sent to me with some drawings on them (like pointing out which line or mark I'm talking about). I can't send PDFs over tumblr DM, so I will need an email address for those. For smaller/less detailed images like a fingerprint or a single mark, I'll do the reading directly over tumblr DM, so no email address will be needed.
Reminder that I'm offering these readings for free as a thanks for sending me the pictures to use in my posts as examples of what lines/marks/features I'm talking about for teaching purposes. If you're uncomfortable with me using said pictures of your hand(s) in my palmistry posts, please don't send any.
I wish there were more people out there who were into palmistry
I'd like to start posting some of my notes and findings here but idk if anyone would really be into that since I never see anyone talk about their interest in it on this site at least, ya know?
Like the palmistry tag is a mess truth be told, and I wish good palmistry information was more accessible to people.
I might do it. I'd need more people's hand pictures tho 👀
