{out of paprikash} I could not motivate tonight, guys, I'm sorry. It suddenly got very hot today, and it honestly sucked the life out of me. That combined with seasonal allergy misery, Wanda and Pietro being pretty quiet, and a few problems with work taking most of the night to sort out, writing just didn't happen. It's already 5AM so I'm going to head to bed, but I'll make an effort next week to get more done.

“Miss Maximoff - mother - … I would like to introduce you to my girlfriend. Her name is America Chavez.”
__________
Tumblr media
For a moment, Wanda’s heart skipped a beat. Life had not been easy for her after the whole Westview debacle, but she did her best to still be there for Viv, recognizing that she, too, had lost the family they’d had before the Hex was destroyed. But even Viv didn’t know that she’d begun to study the Darkhold to try to find a way to restore that family... or that the Darkhold had given her the name of a girl with very special powers.
“Did you America Chavez?” Wanda asked, hoping she’d heard Viv wrong. “Ho- How do you know her? I mean... how did you two meet?”

"With everything that has happened to me in the past several years, nothing really fazes me anymore," Wanda replied with a rather flat cynicism. She was still reeling from losing Vision again as well as her two boys. It was all too much to feel at once. She might've thought she had no more heart left to bruise, but she'd been so painfully wrong. And yet, over time, trying to put her life back together and avoid being captured by the authorities for what she'd done in Westview, Wanda had begun to feel very numb of late. It wasn't until she ventured out of her isolated cabin and into town for supplies that she realized... the world had been facing a new crisis in her absence.
It always seemed as if the moment one crisis ended in her life, another began, before Wanda could catch her breath or process any of the trauma. Now, so soon after losing her family and grappling with her own guilt at having enslaved an entire town, the world was apparently being taken over by a very contagious and dangerous pathogen? Something... that turned people into cannibalistic monsters called strigoi. Wanda had never been to Romania, nor did she know much about it, but even as a Romani Jewish-Pagan girl growing up in Transia and later Sokovia, there were tales of the strigoi. Americans called them vampires, she believed. But they were only stories... right?
Apparently not. Returning to her little cabin in the middle of nowhere never seemed like a better idea than it did right then, so that was exactly what she did. Maybe she should try to help people, but... she was no hero. Westview had taught her that. There was really no point in striving to be something she knew she wasn't, and for something she wasn't even sure she wanted anymore. What had the world done for her and her loved ones lately? It had taken away everything and everyone she loved, and in the case of Vision, repeatedly. Let them find another savior if they didn't want her. She was done. Now, Wanda just wanted to be left alone.
Except that, as per her usual bad luck, this was not to be. Hiding from this latest apocalypse turned out to be more difficult than anticipated when a very strange looking man suddenly showed up on her porch. How the hell had he found her, way out here? Regardless, he was clearly afflicted with whatever this... strigoi disease was. That didn't scare Wanda, per se, but she wasn't about to let her guard down either. "So... which are you? One of those responsible for spreading this infection, or simply one of the infected?" she asked. "And more importantly, why are you here?"

When Steve suddenly wrapped his arms around her and drew her close, gazing into her eyes, Wanda felt herself flush all over. Her cheeks must have been beet red, that knowledge adding embarrassment to exhilaration and only causing her to flush even more. She couldn't tear her eyes from his. He had nice eyes... and a nice smile... and nice... everything.
Hearing that he hadn't really been all that interested in starting a relationship with someone in this time until he met her was something Wanda hadn't expected to hear. It seemed like she'd made a big impression on him, something of which she'd been wholly unaware. Sure, they'd become friends and grown closer, but she hadn't noticed that he'd felt anything more than that. Then again, Wanda had all the relationship and romantic experience of a half-baked potato, so it didn't surprise her that she hadn't picked up on any cues from him.
She shook her head, feeling a bit stupid for being so shy. "If you want to try, then... I want this with you. I've... got my own baggage too, so... we can help each other through them," she offered. "We can take things slow... if you want..." But as she said that, she hadn't realized how she was leaning closer, how her eyes looked between his own and his lips, and by the time she was planting a shy kiss there, she was too involved with instinct to realize that she was-
"Oh-" she said suddenly, pulling back a little and blinking. "That wasn't taking things slow. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..." She swallowed hard. He seemed fine with it, and she really wanted to do it again, so... she cupped his face with her hands and went for it, kissing him sweetly.
"With a smile like that, I can’t help but want to know your secret. What’s got you so cheery today?" (americashielded)
@americashielded
Tumblr media
"I'm... not... smiling..." Wanda said rather unconvincingly. "Wait, was I?" she immediately corrected. If she was, she'd been wholly unaware of it. "I don't have any secrets." That was an outright lie. Wanda had more secrets than most people and she guarded them well. So well, in fact, that sometimes she kept them even from herself. Like, for example, why she'd been smiling just now, if she really had been. Why would I be smiling? she wondered, but all that met her gaze was... Steve.
Oh.
"Um..." she said awkwardly, a pint tint appearing in her cheeks. "Well, I... I guess... maybe I was smiling... at you." That admission had even more color flooding into her cheeks, and she promptly ran her fingers through her hair with a shy chuckle. "Sorry," she whispered, feeling like maybe she had made him uncomfortable.

{i am the caretaker of souls} Seeing @witchoflegends headcanon post about Strange here, I couldn't agree more. It was one of the thoughts that really stayed with me long after watching DSMoM, that the Darkhold can't ever be fully destroyed now, not as long as Strange is still alive. With his eidetic memory, he's now got a carbon copy of the book in his mind.
Everyone is so quick to condemn Wanda for her use of limited sections of the book and yet Strange is over there with the entire book etched on his brain. This is a problem, no? And yeah, it does make him super overpowered, too. But I agree, that will likely never come up in the MCU. He'll likely never be criticized, policed, or called out for it after the fact. It a double standard, for sure.
Tumblr media
I guess we'll see how it plays out in future movies, and whether they're at all willing to go there and admit that Strange was just as wrong for using the book as Wanda was, regardless of his intentions. Listen, I write and adore both of these characters, but neither one of them should've ever messed with the Darkhold, heh. Everybody makes mistakes, but damn. XD

PSA: Hiatus Extended until 4/2
{out of paprikash} My surgery went well, but the surrounding hospital experience was unexpectedly anxiety-producing. More details here if anyone wants to know, but it was far longer and more harrowing than anticipated. The post-op pain is worse than they said it would be too, and I can't take anything for it but Tylenol, so I've just been sleeping and resting a lot. I've also got 240 forum posts to grade for work this week that unfortunately have to take precedence over writing here. I've been trying to work on it all day today, but I just don't have the focus.
In light of all this, I've decided to give myself one more week off my regular rp schedule (always available in my blogs' pinned posts, btw) to take a break and focus on recovery and work. So for this blog, that means I'll be back on 4/8. I'll still leave @tarnishedxknight open, but I honestly haven't even done much over there either because my creativity isn't flowing right now. After one more week, I should be well into recovery, in less pain, done with follow-up appts, and ready to focus back here on writing. I'm so close to being back here with good regularity again, folks, just bear with me, heh.

PSA: Hiatus until 3/26
{out of paprikash} So I love how I just updated everyone last night and then today all my plans change, lol. Such is life. Anyhoo… my surgery date was suddenly moved from 3/29 to 3/22, this Friday. SO… I will definitely not be here next week (3/25), as I’ll be recovering and I won’t know how I’ll feel physically and mentally. The majority of my muse is over at @tarnishedxknight, so I’ll just take a week off and write there on and off there as time and muse allows. But that means I will likely be here on 4/1. Right now, I’m going to say that I will take off from my regular schedule this week and up until 3/26. Then I’ll be back on track Weds 3/27 and onward. I will have to see how I feel post-op and all, but that’s my plan for right now. *sighs* Sorry for the drama, but I swear, these people have changes dates, times, and restrictions on me 87 times in the past week and it’s been a crazy mess, heh. So hmu on @tarnishedxknight if you want to, otherwise I’ll be back here 4/1 if I don’t say otherwise before then. <3

{out of paprikash} Friendly reminder that I won't be here tomorrow (3/18) because I've got a really stressful day ahead and I know my anxiety is not going to be a team player as far as me having creativity and muse to write. I hope to be here on 3/25, but I'll have to see how my anxiety is doing, and I do have grading to do that week for work, so... we'll just have to play it by ear. I'll try my best to be here then because I'll need to skip 4/1 after my surgery on the 29th.
You all know my muse for Wanda has been waning for a while now. I want to rewatch Age of Ultron and Multiverse of Madness (those two movies honestly inspire me the most with Wanda), which I think will give me a boost, but I want to wait until all the craziness with work and my surgery is done with. Then I may try to write some starters or oneshots or other assorted things to try to get the spark back for writing her again. If anyone has any meta topics for Wanda that you'd like me to do some in-depth analysis on, sometimes that sort of thing also helps to stoke the muse a bit. I may not get to them until things have calmed down, but that's my plan for Wanda because I don't want to drop her but I definitely need some help in getting back the muse, heh.
Thanks for your patience during this crazy time, and I hope to be here next Monday! =)

Wanda's whole face felt incredibly hot, and she knew it must be red all over. Which... was embarrassing, but it was okay. She trusted both Steve and Bucky not to make fun of her for it in anything more than a teasing way. She bit her bottom lip, trying to hold back the excited little smile that was trying so hard to push its way out.
She nodded, still smiling and biting her lip, afraid that if she spoke at all, it would just become a... well, a squeak or something. This was so crazy, so naughty, and so exciting! "Yeah... I do. I wanna try this with the both of you," Wanda did say finally, mustering up her courage. Even if a second later she was covering her face with her hands, still a little shy about all of this, but in a good way.
Peeking through her fingers, she finally lowered her hands, though she pushed her hair behind her ear. "So I guess... we've all just been crushing on each other? Is that what's been happening here?" she asked with a chuckle.
“Wanda, I- we have a question. Also, happy birthday sweetheart.” (Steve, with Bucky standing with him; @mxrvelouscreations

"Okay... and what might that be?" she asked, already smiling. "Thank you, you're both very sweet. Her gaze moved between Steve and Bucky, her cheeks turning a little pink. She was already wondering what this was about...

She started laughing right away, a big grin on her face, even as she held her coffee in both hands, almost huddling by its warmth. "Pietro, I don't think anyone could ignore you, not even me. You are... un-ignorable," she said, giggling. And she wouldn't change that for the world. Pietro's in-your-face energy was one of the things she loved the most about him.
Wanda couldn't help but smile at Pietro's enthusiasm. He was such a child sometimes in the best of ways. Somewhere along the line, he managed to hold onto that childlike energy and wonder about certain things in life. With everything that had happened, Wanda already felt so old, like she'd had to grow up way too fast. Pietro, though... he still seemed to have that excited little boy inside him still. Wanda was fiercely protective of that little boy, and she hoped Pietro would never lose that spark, no matter how old he got or what he chose to do with his life.
"There will be cake. I promise. Somehow, we will make cake happen," she said with a nod, still grinning at him. If she'd been feeling meh or melancholy for her birthday at all, Pietro had changed that already. It was a gift he had. She hugged him back, and then knew she was going to get roped into a quest for cake right now. "Sure, but I have to get dressed first. I can't go out in just my pajamas, robe, and socks, Pi. And look at my hair," she said. Her hair was, at present, up in a very messy bun. "Give me ten minutes, okay?" she said, knowing he was likely going to try to bargain that down to five.
“Happy birthday sis!” (Pietro; @mxrvelouscreations

"Happy birthday, big bro. But you do know it's six o'clock in the morning, right?" she said, sipping her coffee. It seemed like every year, his birthday wishes came earlier and earlier. She found his excitement cute, though. He was just as enthusiastic about their birthday now as he was when they were kids. "Any special plans for today?"

Aside from the fact that America jumped to another universe despite Wanda's advice not to, and that she'd taken her with her when Wanda said she didn't want to go, and that Stephen would no doubt think Wanda had absconded with America yet again... this forest was too quiet. She'd never seen a forest like this one before, but all forests were the same to some extent... that extent being a basic ecological one, and she'd spent a lot of time in forests as a child. Perfectly quiet forests... were either unnatural... or...
"America, wait!" Wanda called, not moving from her spot. "You need to take us back, right now. Stephen will be worried, and it might not be safe here." The girl was still walking, though, so Wanda sighed, cursed in her native Romani dialect, and began following her. "America," she said a bit more firmly, trying to get the girl's attention. "Please just stop for a moment. There are no birds chirping. I don't see any small animals anywhere. That might mean there are-"
Wanda's fears were soon confirmed with the vibrations in the ground underneath their feet and... roaring? And that's why the forest was quiet. All the smarter animals around them were remaining perfectly still and quiet so that they wouldn't become prey. "There are large predators in this forest," Wanda said. "We need to be careful. What exactly is your plan, anyway? To just... wander forever? You have to face your fears and your responsibilities sooner or later. It's part of growing up." Which... America needed to do a lot of.
The girl showed no sign of taking responsibility, or stopping, or turning back, or taking them home... and so... Wanda prepared herself and her magic to do whatever she needed to protect the girl from whatever was roaring. At this rate, if they ever saw their home universe again, she might be arrested, punished, charged, jailed, whatever for abducting America again... but she was not going to be responsible for her death.
Wanda wasn't sure what she wanted in that moment. If America stayed, there was a good chance Stephen would find her, and she didn't know what that would be as far as consequences for her. On the other hand, America might get lost in some other universe or run into a dangerous situation if she left. And even worse, if Wanda went with America, Stephen would almost certainly fault Wanda for not being where she was supposed to be and might even be able to somehow sense what had happened with his own magic. No, the best thing was for her to stay here and fend Stephen off while American decided what she-
And then she was whisked through a portal into another universe by an impulsive teenager from whom she really should have seen this coming. Despite the years between now and the last time she heard his voice, her brother's favorite quip seemed to play loudly in her head... "You didn't see that coming."
No, Pi, I most certainly did not.
"America!" Wanda exclaimed, half in shock and surprise and half in a why did you do this?! sort of way. She looked around, worried about impending danger from... wherever and whoever, since she had no idea where they were. Not for herself, but if anything happened to America, she knew she'd be blamed for it. Not to mention that she just didn't want anything to happen to the girl because she didn't deserve it. "Oh no..." she whispered as he breathing increased. How was she going to explain any of this to Stephen?
America seemed to be thinking along the same lines, because the next words out of her mouth were regarding the chances of Stephen knowing what had just happened. "I-I don't know..." Wanda said, her hand finding her forehead as she looked around in distress. "I'm not sure what the triggers for his wards are. If they... If they, um... If it's my magic specifically, then... maybe not, but... if it's just... me leaving the space of that room, then... then..." She had to stop talking because it was hard to talk while you were hyperventilating.
Clothes. Clothes? What? The words took a while to register. "What?" Wanda asked breathlessly before she finally looked down at herself. "Oh. Yeah, I... Well I thought I was going to be..." she said, pointing back to where the portal had been. It was gone now. "But I... We... Yeah, I'll... let me, um..." she stammered, shaking her head and closing her eyes for a minute to regain her composure before a flourish of her hands sent a wave of magic over her body, transforming the towel into a t-shirt and jeans. "America... where are we?" she then asked, wondering more importantly, "How do we get back?"
- - - - - -
"Wanda? Hello?" Stephen called, his growing impatience making his hands twitch a little. "Okay, enough of this," he mumbled, opening the door. "Wanda?" he asked, but didn't receive a response. Something... didn't feel right. "Wanda, are you here?" She better be, he thought, worry already setting in. He went through every room of the apartment, searching for her. Once it was clear that the witch, in fact, was not here at all, worry turned into panic.
Stephen turned and left, wondering all the way to America's room how none of his wards had been tripped. How could he have fucked this up? How could he have been so stupid? No, it's alright, it's not what it seems, there's a logical explanation for it and America is going to be right where she should be. Knocking on her door, Stephen tried to ignore how tight his chest felt all of the sudden. "America? Open up, it's important." No response. No... "America!" Still no response. No, please...
Barging into her room, Stephen searched it with all the urgency of someone whose clothes were on fire before determining... she wasn't there. Wanda's gone, America's gone too, this is on you. You should never have trusted Wanda. How could you be so gullible?! America's just a child and she depended on you! His teeth clenched so tightly his jaw popped and he turned to slam his hand against the door frame, sending shooting pain through his damaged hand and up his arm.
"Shit!!"
He stormed out, on his way back to Wanda's room to try any number of spells to discern just what had occurred there... and where the witch had gone.

“You’re Wanda, right?” Bucky asked. No matter how hard he’d tried, Hydra had managed to recapture him and continue his conditioning. Steve was the only one who was able to completely shatter it on that bridge, but his memories were still scattered and foggy. “I remember… I took care of you, for a while. Before everything went to hell. Is… how are Natalia and Pietro? I missed you all.”
Bucky smiled as he noticed the cat at her feet. It was Alpine, the kitten he’d gifted her so long ago. That alone reassured him - Hydra hadn’t been able to completely hurt them, and even if his memory wasn’t perfect, he still wanted to reconnect with her.
“I see you still have Alpine. I think I told you she would always protect you - has she been doing her job?”
________
“Yeah... Yes, I am,” Wanda said, smiling softly, although she felt a twinge of sadness that he had to ask. She knew all the terrible things that had been done to him, or at least she had a good summary sort of idea, but it still was so sad to see him struggling to remember her. Her heart sank even more when he asked about Pietro and Nat. How... how was she supposed to tell him “Um... they’re... in a better place, now... I hope...” she said, hoping he wouldn’t ask her what she meant by that. She really didn’t want to have to explicitly tell him that they were both gone, both because she didn’t want to hurt him and because she didn’t want to relive that grief herself.
“She has...” Wanda said, the smile remaining. She wasn’t about to say anything else to him. Of course a cat couldn’t protect her from anything, but... Alpine sure had helped her through some terrible things. Maybe that was her own special way of saving her. “How are you, Bucky?” she then asked rather seriously, genuinely wanting to know. Wanda was so concerned for him...

He was just... so sweet to her. She'd missed that. Also, she didn't fully think she deserved it. For now, though, she was just going to accept it, the pain and exhaustion of losing too many loved ones in her life causing her to just want to be happy for once. "Okay, I'll leave it, then," she said with a little shrug.
"It's... not an exciting story. It's a terrible one. The long and short of it is... the government turned against the Avengers because of... something I did. A mistake I made. People died." She shifted uncomfortably, her arms wrapping around herself. "Anyway, they... wanted us to sign some legal document that would give the government more control over us. We couldn't act unless they said we could, and we could be punished or even locked up if we didn't follow it. Some of us signed, others didn't... and... eventually, because of other things that occurred that really caused a lot of tension between Steve and Tony, we all... went to war with each other. There was this huge battle in Germany, some of us were injured, property was destroyed... and some of us who hadn't signed the document were arrested."
She scanned his face for him getting too upset about this, but then Wanda figured she was far enough into the story, she may as well finish it. Rip it off like a band-aid. "I was one of the ones who was arrested, and they put me in this specialized prison for extremely dangerous people with special abilities. It was hell, and I got very sick, and... that... was not a good time for me." She shook her head and sighed, as if the clear the memories from her mind. "But Steve rescued me and a few others, and Natasha helped us to go into hiding for a while. It was her suggestion to go red..." she said, reaching up to touch her hair.
Leaving that story where it was, she then smiled as he continued to list all the things he was going to teach her theoretical future children to say. "I suppose that's the best compromise I'm going to get, huh? Agreeing to let you teach them swears when they're older, instead of right away?" she asked with a smile, though there was a sadness to it. She knew she'd never have more children, and talking about them as if they were all but a certainty with the brother she'd thought lost to her was a bittersweet blessing.
"Of course I'm spoiling you, you've-... You've been gone so long, Pi. I want to spoil you," she said, her voice faltering a little as she almost started to cry right then and there. That was how Wanda was now... always just one word or sentiment away from losing control over her emotions. One second away from crying. "What about... red velvet cake with chocolate frosting? That covers both flavors," she offered.
“Sister what happened? Last thing I remember was Ultron… you look so different, how?” (From Pietro; Mxrvelouscreations)
@mxrvelouscreations
Tumblr media
“Pietro…?” Wanda asked, suddenly wrenched from her study of the Darkhold to see her brother? Standing… right in front of her? “How are you here right now?” she said, her voice shaking as she struggled to understand. Was she seeing things? Was she dreaming about people she could never see again? That seemed to be happening more and more to her nowadays. She had been peeking into other verses, so had she accidentally brought him back with her? Wanda hadn’t seen him during her studies, though.
She was confused, but she almost didn’t care how he’d gotten there. And part of her was still hurt from the way Agatha had tricked her in Westview, but another part wanted so much to believe he was really there… even if it didn’t make any sense. Slowly, she approached him and lifted her hand to his cheek to find it solid and warm. “‘Oh gods…” she whispered. Her eyes filled with tears and she smiled brightly. For lack of knowing what to say to him after all this time, she simply said, “Hi…” Her thumb rubbed his cheek as a tear trickled down her own.
