A Dream I'll Realise
It's earnest posting time, about my graphic novel ! Thank you in advance for reading, it means a lot ! 🖤
Almost 15 years ago, I started a narrative universe: Malysh, or the Trial of an Outdated Democracy, or Malysh for short. Malysh has been the companion of my art ever since and focal point of its improvement, growing up with me as time went on.
It was through Malysh that I cemented what I wanted to do in life: tell stories that resonate with people, that deconstruct human fear and anguish, that express the deeper sentiments found within us all. But there's a change: what was an experimental space became a certainty.
After figuring things out, I came to the conclusion that Malysh shouldn't remain in the drafts, and should instead become an integral part of my artistic body of work. As such, I've finally taken it seriously as a project, treating it with the care and attention it deserves.
What is it about ? Let's keep reading, and find out !
Malysh is about a young woman in an obliterated, unrecognisable and twisted world challenging the State, the Group and the Self.
It's about our own memories, whether of the collective or individual, and how we reckon with them - if we ever do.
The world of Malysh is broken beyond repair - or is it ?
That's for ourselves and the protagonist to figure out.
In the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Paris, reality itself was bent beyond recognition, mangled with the living, the dead, and the inanimate -- as all three become one.
It's a (long) story of hardship, but also grit - a critique of institutions, but also humans.
In the first arc "The Trial of an Outdated Democracy", the shortcomings, failures, of liberal democracies in their containment of fascism is explored - which hits close to home.
As for the format
Malysh is a series of online graphic novels
It makes use of black & white, and screentones for its pannels
The language will be english, with french (probably) down the line
All written & illustrated by yours truly
Now, I feel ready to make the project a reality, working on it whenever I can, regularly. I've been dreaming to get that project out for a while, and I'm no longer letting myself off the hook with it.
I have a goal to release the first chapters in 2024, setting that in stone.
I figured I wouldn't give up on it - no longer treat it as a childish caprice: What is it that I want to do with my life ? Write stories ! Good. Now it's time to actually get there !
And this is just the beginning of a long saga of Radinsky stories, which I hope you'll enjoy !

When your trilogy works out
Until Saturday, I'm resting up ! So I continued to work on Malysh in the mean time in between two Elden Ring sessions (I missed Elden Ring, Caelid did wonders to my inspiration).
One thing I wanted to secure was the overall idea for a trilogy so that I would know exactly where I'm headed, aka, knowing the ending to end all endings: I wanted to make sure that one would massively pay off after what is essentially 3 massive arcs to the story (I use the term "trilogy" relatively loosely, as Malysh is a series of graphic novels).
Indeed, setting up the triad here allowed me to clear the ground for pinpointing exactly what the overall thesis of the story is, and which aspects of them each entry covers: the thesis being about the societal and State responsibility regarding collective memory -- although, I'll get into this in far more detail, as I don't want to give too much of it away for the time being.
So indeed, do be prepared for what'll essentially be a three parter and not a stand-alone for Malysh. Initially I figured I'd keep that under wraps, but the ending to arc 1 will be just as effective knowing that there's more to it.
I've made many notes in my absolute baby of a notebook (actually not even the first ! I have quite a few Malysh notebooks), and I'm fleshing out the steps I'll take from there, to match with how linear I need to be about things, haha.

The Great Retcon
I've spoken about it before, but I've been working on for quite a few years on a personal project called "Malysh, or the Trial of an Outdated Democracy" (Malysh for short). It's a serialised graphic novel that will be available for free online, with releases happening one chapter at a time. The pages will be in black and white with screentones. I also plan on releasing digital volume versions for patrons and for digital downloads, which would contain extra sketches, Q&As, character sheets, and plenty of cool bonuses.
I, however, had an illumination as of late - an epiphany, if you will: I'm pretty much completely revamping the story after I was able to solve some plot points which bothered me. It's a whole process of streamlining and chopping down what needed to be chopped down, and ensuring that all the pieces of the puzzle fit together well. Indeed, Malysh has been around for over a decade at this point, with ideas having evolved as a result, but without a full-fledged restructuring process to necessarily organise it: a sort of narrative millefeuille took hold, and it was getting cumbersome to work on.
If I'm not starting things out from scratch, I am starting right at the beginning again - at the very foundations: I'm drawing out the steps which is a more intuitive way for me to execute a project I want to undertake, to avoid the risk of inconsistencies and simply losing steam (I'm not the best at improvising). I am incredibly serious about the story and always wanted stories to be my job: If I believe in Malysh a lot, I also need to give it the resources, meticulousness and consistency it deserves if I want it to live up to the idea I had of it.
As such, it was long overdue for a little trimming at the hairdressers and some vacuuming of the chopped-off hairs ! This results in some aspects of the story being a bit ret-conned (roll credits) with regards to posts I have made in the past and lore facts that I have shared. If the whole story is spiritually the exact same, what is going to come out is a much more focused universe with very consistent rules - rules which are also clear and intuitive. Not that they were particularly nebulous before, and that the purposeful ambiguity won't remain about some topics, but things will tie neatly into each other after the process has been done.
I'll also be updating you a lot here on how things are going, with what I'm currently undertaking in a blog format. I'll probably mirror those posts on my website down the line too (I need to get to my website again, ugh !) if you ever want to save that one in your bookmarks as well.
In short, I'll also do a clean-up of the lore posts I did on here in order to avoid any confusion with posts that'll come down the line too ! If you want to know more about Malysh as well, you can come check out my discord server (on which there are dedicated channels !)

So I've been thinking about my blog
Hi friends ! I hope you're all doing well ! I've been stuck with bronchitis here and it's only slowly starting to get better today when it's been about a week, haha
I've mostly been posting my visual works here but I've been reconsidering it a lot
Now, it's not bad news !
What I reconsidered is that I'd love to do more blogging on here too, with more insight into what I'm up to thanks to the longer format that's allowed on tumblr. I was thinking about updating you, for instance, with text posts about Malysh OTOD, my post-apocalyptic and anti-war graphic novel series. I also thought about posting a bit more about my daily life, the behind the scenes if you will
I'll be experimenting with it for a bit in the meantime, but I'll be more meticulous in the tags for my posts so you can easily navigate across my blog
