I tried drawing critters!

So I found this little duck from Lalafanfan, a plushie you can dress up and I thought "oh i want to design my own and call it little sprites"

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I haven't found anyone who is willing to sew them into plushies (maybe my design is too difficult to make idk)

If anyone knows Axie Infinity, these designs are also inspired by Axies, which is why their body parts are from different kinds of animals.

I think I'll be posting some facts about them, too and add them to my world-building stories. Basically, they're fairy/elf pets, and no two Sprites are the same -- their body parts and powers are unique, which makes them incredibly rare and fetch a high price in the black market.

You can keep them as pets, but they are descendants of the nine-tailed fox. With the right amount of magic fed to them, they have "giant beast forms" and become powerful af. Which is why elves keep them, lol.

Lol, okay. That's enough world-building for today.

Spreading awareness—plagiarism on ao3 fanfics

I never thought I would have to make a post like this but I needed to bring it up. Ao3 user kooktaeverse plagiarised writing from two different stories: “like a sunflower in the middle of a snowy hill” & “To build a home” by reikaa and published it in their own work entitled “The Ensnaring Omega”.

My mate and a couple of lovely people had so kindly informed me of this issue and upon reading it myself, it certainly wasn’t a coincidence. A certain scene in the last chapter was straight up copied from my own writing. They’ve used the same sentences, changed a word or two, separated it into different paragraphs—but it was still recognisable enough to raise a red flag. Despite claiming not to know my story, they proceed to rewrite the scenario multiple times to make it appear less similar to mine. They have also deleted comments where this issue was addressed, and eventually disabled comments altogether.

Here are screenshots of the original version of ‘The Ensnaring Omega’ Chapter 12 before it was edited. I’ve highlighted it in different colours to compare how much of it was copied from my own work:

A day or two ago, a reader of mine very gratiously let me know about this supposed writer who copied my exact sentences and scenes, they even went ahead and used my original character (a baby) and copied everything, from his dialogues to his endearing habits and characterization. Upon confrontation, the writer deleted my comments from their chapter, and when I messaged them on twitter, they apologized for “unintentionally” doing it because “the scenes were warm-hearted” Yeah. Those exact words. You can’t make this stuff up. I am honestly quite disgusted. Because here are two hard working people whose works got ripped for in one fic by someone who really thought they would get away with it. And the fic still is up on Ao3! Isn’t that so lovely! Although I suspect we aren’t the only ones they’ve done this to, I still hope that we are. Because it really is just the worst feeling in the world having a cherished work snatched and stolen from you like this. It’s cruel. Let’s not do this, please.

I’m suspecting that it’s not just us two that kooktaeverse has plagiarised from, and if anyone out here knows something just let me know. Since they’ve already edited some parts of what they’ve stolen, I can only spread awareness at this point. I would hate for something like this to happen to someone else.

I just feel so disappointed. I didn’t spend hours writing these stories just to have someone copy it and rebrand it as their own, neither did reikaa. You’re allowed to get ideas from someone else’s story, but literally copying it word from word is a big fat NO. Just don’t do it.

~300 Basic words

funwithlanguages​ made a post about how you can write a lot with around just 300 words , there doesn’t seem to be a Japanese version, so I thought I’d have a go at translating it. This list has some things that just aren’t used in Japanese or that commonly used words don’t exist for (the, a etc). Be careful as I’ve kept the original list in tact, which means some things listed in the adjectives section (’enough’ and ‘too’, for example) are verbs and some verbs (’like’ ‘want’) are adjectives in Japanese, also terms about work, family and counting etc need special attention in Japanese as they are very different from English. No, I will not transliterate this into romaji, please don’t ask me to. You can learn kana in a weekend, far faster than memorising this word list. If you can’t read this list, go and learn kana then come back to it when you can. Romaji damages your learning and accent development. If there’s a mistake, please let me know, thanks! First Verbs
