Since life is short and I am constantly distracted, I've started a new fic for a new fandom. Here's a snippet from a Gale/ Astarion BG3 fic:

"Gale wishes to extend you a private conversation in a more suitable locale. Follow the path." 

Astarion rolled his yes then frowned at the message. Leave it to Gale to leave something so overly complicated and pompous as a request to join him. The man could have just as easily asked Astarion himself. But no, not their wizard. He loved theatrics almost as much as Astarion. 

The thought made him smirk. At least Gale wasn't boring. Asarion would put up with a great many things- evil, yes, sadistic even, but not boring. He'd been alive far too long for that. 

He waited until the others had fallen asleep, Karlach clutching her teddy bear and L'azeal muttering something about avenging those who wronged her, to follow the outstretched arm.

“Okay.” Alex kneels in the grass for him once again. Sometimes his summer feels downright Sisyphean. “So you start by…”

His words turn to vapor because, concealed by the slim body of the mower, Henry’s holding his wrist.

Mrs. Hollis can’t see.

He runs a thumb across the back of Alex’s wrist, where his grandfather’s cracked but beloved watch rests. Alex gulps and rests a hand on Henry’s knee slowly, caught in the grass and safe among the dandelions.

This, of all places, is where we can get away from it all. The thought flickers ‘cross his mind like the fucking CNN banner, gone before Alex can read it twice.

“Okay, then,” Alex gulps. “So, first you check the gas tank.” He looks at Henry; has been this whole time. He wonders if Hen’s gaze could cut museum glass in this moment. Could they make a run for it?

Where would they even go?

They clink their forks, sharing small secret smiles over their free dessert before exiting the restaurant with their fingers interlocked and thanking the hostess, while all the servers watch them leave with hearts in their eyes.

Exactly the way they’d fucking planned it. --- Best friends Alex and Henry pretending to get engaged every week to get free dessert, until those pesky feelings get in the way.
