I am trying to nail down the Teen Titans cartoon style a bit better, as well as age them up within the same style. Here's my take on Beast Boy!

I’m going to do some serious rethinking on my depictions on some of my muses here. I want my writing to be believable as a continuation of the 2003 cartoon in a way. I want the characters to believably have been from the cartoon, just with more depth and less writing limitations. The main characters likely won’t change much at all, as they have defined personalities within the show itself. As for villains and side characters, I’m hoping to give them depth, but keep their sometimes little defined personalities in tact, at least until possible character development. I’m mostly working on Mad Mod and The Amazing Mumbo right now. While I may not continue my stories much with their old versions, I won’t delete them, so they can still be enjoyed. On a lighter note, I have some new story ideas, including a villainous team up between Mad Mod and The Amazing Mumbo! That should be fun! (Regarding my roleplay blog, I will be continuing old rps and may even start new ones, but I may lose interest in them as I further develop the new versions of my muses.)

Beast Boy and the Bakery
(Sorry I haven't posted any writing for so long. This is unfinished and takes place after Go! but before the series official start.)
When it came to the construction of Titans Tower, each team member contributed in their own way. Beast Boy found his place primarily in brute strength and delicate tasks, utilizing his larger animal forms and smaller animal forms respectively. While he was grateful to be able to help and not be scolded for minor slip ups, the changeling was starting to tire of construction. While not physically tired, he really wanted to do something besides building the Tower. Surprisingly, he merely needed to ask Robin for a break to be allowed to do so. He never would have dreamed of doing such a thing under Mento’s leadership... With that non-issue taken care of, Beast Boy found himself wandering the city. He had no particular destination in mind, but he seemed to find one in a less populated part of the city. The building was on the smaller side, seemingly squished between two larger buildings, but it struck the changeling as cozy. There were flower boxes beneath each window and the exterior was painted a soft white with some accents in pastel pink, blue, and yellow. The sign on the building read: Tasty Treats and Vegan Eats Curiosity piqued, Beast Boy opened the door, causing the bell above it to jingle. While the outside looked more like a bakery, the interior seemed to be mixed with a bit of fifties diner, given its round chairs, small tables, tiled floor, and jukebox.
There were a total number of four people he could see in the bakery. An old man, an old woman, a young boy, and an even younger girl. The woman behind the counter was quick to greet him, not the least bit fazed by his appearance. “Well, hello there, dearie,” the woman smiled, her white curls bouncing as she tilted her head slightly. “I can’t say I’ve seen you here before. Would you like a sample?” Beast Boy blinked, a bit surprised by the woman’s lack of reaction to his appearance. “Uh, sure,” he shrugged a bit, approaching the counter. “They’re free, right? And no animal products?” “Free as the air you breathe and one hundred percent vegan,” the woman smiled as she readied a few samples. “Oh, cool,” he replied with a small smile. As the changeling waited, his ear twitched as the sound of small footsteps approached him. Looking down, he saw it was the young boy. Before he could say anything, the green teen was greeted with a loud, “Why are you green?!” Beast Boy flinched a little. This kid didn’t seem to have a concept of inside voice. Then again, he had the same problem sometimes. After wiggling his finger in his ear, he responded. “It’s just part of my superpowers,” he shrugged. “I can turn into animals.”
The boy took in a deep breath, eyes seeming to sparkle as his mouth widened to the point his smile practically covered half his face. “That’s so cool!” the child loudly exclaimed, seemingly too young to be skeptical. Something he did was cool? Beast Boy wondered to himself. More often than not, he was seen as a freak for what he could do… most certainly not cool. “You think so?! You wanna see?!” the teen asked. “Yeah!” the boy bounced up and down. “Can you turn into a dinosaur? A big one?!” “Not inside, I hope,” the woman interjected, setting a few samples on the counter. “Here you are. Let me know what you think!” The young boy slumped his shoulders as the hero’s attention was now taken by food. “Oooo~” Beast Boy uttered in awe of the treats before him. Taking the tiny plastic spoon in his hand, he dug into the small paper cup. Popping the dessert in his mouth, he let out a pleased, “Mmmmm~ Coconut cream pie!” The woman nodded and gestured to the remaining dessert samples. “S’more doughnut; macadamia nut cookie.” “Don’t mind if I do!” the changeling wiggled his fingers in anticipation, taking the morsels and popping them into his mouth. “They’re so good!” he exclaimed, giddy with his new bakery discovery. “How’d you make them so good?!”
“Years of baking and experimentation. I’m lactose intolerant, you see, while my husband is allergic to eggs and our son is vegetarian. I had to learn to cook and bake some foods we could all eat.” Beast Boy nodded before the boy interrupted. “Can you turn into a dinosaur now?” The changeling looked over to the older woman and asked, “Do you mind if I turn into a little one… ma’am?” “That’s perfectly fine,” she replied. “But there’s no need for ma’am. Call me Maggie!” “Thanks, Maggie,” he nodded and turned to the young boy. “All right! Here comes an eoraptor!” In a split second, the green teen became a small dinosaur, approximately three feet long. Turning his head to take in his surroundings and make sure he didn’t hit anything with his tail, the dinosaur made a few poses, almost like a museum display. “That’s so cool!” the boy bounced excitedly. “Well, I’ll be,” the old man uttered, bouncing his granddaughter on his knee. “Did you see that, Clara?” The toddler said nothing, merely whined and attempted to hide against her grandfather’s torso. The dinosaur returned to a teen in an instant, looking worried and remorseful. “H-hey, don’t be scared! I’m sorry! I can make it better! I can turn into other things!” He frantically looked over to the old man. “Does she have a favorite animal?!”
Bouncing the girl on his knee once more, the man replied. “She has a few teddy bears of koalas. We call her our little koala because she needs to sleep so much.” Beast Boy nodded and became a koala on the spot, doing his best to look non-threatening. “Look at that,” the grandfather nudged the girl and pointed her gaze to the fuzzy green koala. Clara’s eyes widened and her attitude quickly changed, reaching out in an attempt to pet the furry being. The green koala walked over and held his paws up to the old man. Knowing what the teen wanted, the man lowered his arm so the transformed teen could grab onto it. Lifting him up and placing him on his lap, he instinctually placed his hand on the boy’s back to keep him upright as one might a baby. The toddler promptly reached out and hugged the marsupial, cooing excitedly. “There we go. No need to be scared,” the grandfather assured. “Clara gets scared a lot,” the boy informed. “That’s why I gotta protect her,” he stated with his fists on his hips and chest puffed out.

You know how Beast Boy's adoptive father Mento is shitty and Beast Boy improves by leaps when he joins the Teen Titans? I'm making a video about it.

Tried to recreate the original animated Teen Titans style for this one.
This is actually a redraw of something I drew years ago. Can be seen under the cut.

This is how I imagine Mad Mod reacting to all us young(ish) fans thirsting over him.
"PLEASE! No more young pursuers! I'm an old man! My minimum is forty!"
(Just a rough sketch for the sillies.)

When he was first trying to prove himself to the Doom Patrol as a young child, Beast Boy was only referred to by his legal name of Garfield.
This was because he was not yet an official member of the team and therefore did not need a superhero name.
It took a great deal of training before Mento deemed him an official member of their team.
It was then he chose his alias of Beast Boy, wearing it as a badge of honor.
While he is proud of his alias, he does sometimes like to be called by his real name as a reminder that there is more to him than being a superhero.

Oh! Hello, hello! Someone who's found my old Beast Boy blog! Hello, young Teen Titans fan!
My own feelings on Terra may bounce back and forth, but it's nice to see a Terra fan who acknowledges Things Change likely wasn't the best decision in terms of painting her a better person.
I have my own headcanons and fics dedicated to making the Things Change Terra work, but that's not for this post.
Anyway, I feel like it's time to revamp/rewrite a different post I had about Terra.
I feel like there were better ways Terra could have been written to make her come off as more of a victim than she did in the final product.
I know the writers only had so many episodes to work with her, as well as having different writers per episodes, but I feel that proper communication and some tweaks could have made it work better.
The Terra we see in the cartoon, the purely canon Terra, doesn't show many signs of her being manipulated; not until the very end with her body literally being controlled by Slade.
We see her being lied to by someone the Teen Titans had already told her was a bad man. She believed Slade's words over Beast Boy’s when he told her he didn't tell.
This part I'm willing to forgive, but we don't see what happens between then and her return. If she flat out ran back to Slade, I feel like it's game over for her character.
However, if she was running off to calm down and think, only for Slade to show up and weasel his way into her mind that way, that would make sense towards the mostly victim take for her character. Maybe have Slade be more of a smooth talker and display a false softer side that could have planted the idea that Slade wasn't all bad.
But we don't SEE that.
Whenever we see Slade and Terra interacting, Slade makes it very clear he wants to destroy the Titans. No doubts on him having evil goals.
Something that could have helped was to either show that Terra hoped to change his mind or was planning to go against him once it came to actually going forward with his plans to defeat the Titans.
But we don't SEE that.
I'm going to jump ahead to after the Betrayal episode (where Beast Boy was right for turning her away when it was likely all his friends were dying from something she could have prevented or warned) to where Terra is going all out on trying to destroy the Titans.
During her fights, she is seen as having genuine hate for the Titans and feeling incredible glee from hurting them, both physically and emotionally.
This is something I think was a miscommunication with the writers.
I think Terra should have been written as more upset about the whole thing and constantly goaded by Slade.
Have her show hesitation, only for Slade to constantly talk to her and drill into her head that she hates them, that they abandoned her, that she owes him for his help, that she's doing so much better under his guidance.
But, again, we don't SEE that.
What we see is a purely malicious Terra going after the Titans of her own volition. She didn't need Slade to tell her to destroy them, to mock them, to hurt them as badly as she could.
Now, one could headcanon and AU these changes, but it's just not what we see in the cartoon.
That's why she gets so much hate.
Unless you AU and headcanon and jump through hoops, Terra's actions are simply inexcusable and primarily her own.
Her sacrifice to stop the volcano was a massive step forward, but Things Change made her backtrack completely.
I believe there's potential for Terra to be a better person, but Things Change wasn't a good representation of that. (Hence why I write fics and such that take place after that episode to show her growing afterwards.)
Anyway, yeah, if the writers wanted her to be a victim who was determined to make things right, they did Terra dirty.
(What I wouldn’t give for the girl in Things Change to NOT be Terra. I would likely have been more accepting of her character had Things Change never happened. Prior to Things Change, Terra’s final act was one for good. She realized who her friends really were, said she was sorry for everything she’d done, and sacrificed herself to take down their greatest enemy and save the city. Had these truly been her final actions, I’d consider her a redeemable character. The problem is they weren’t her final actions. What we see in Things Change is a Terra who continues to run away and avoid responsibility. I’m not saying Terra shouldn’t have started a new life. What I think she should have done is talked to the Titans first to find out what she could do to make things right and how to move forward. Then they could all come to the decision that Terra would fare better with a new identity. In the end, she would still get a fresh start, but she would have done what she could to make things right with those she hurt most.)

A thought just occurred to me regarding Raven and it kind of spiraled into several ideas.
Given Raven's need to meditate, it's fair to assume she's quite good at it and, as such, breathing techniques. This, combined with her ability to calm herself, likely results in her being able to hold her breath far longer than most people.
If she wanted to, Raven could be fantastic in the water.
She has her reasons to avoid this though.
The beach isn't really her scene. Loud active people, sand that gets everywhere, expectations of skimpy swimwear... Not her preference.
A swimming pool is worse, even with its lack of sand. The confined space just pushed people that much closer together.
When her ability to hold her breath so long is discovered, however, Beast Boy recommends an idea she might actually like.
He got the idea when researching Mexico and planning his dream vacation there.
Free diving.
Should she use her great lung capacity to her advantage, she could make her way deeper than any other swimmer, away from the commotion of the others, and stay there for minutes at a time. No cumbersome equipment. No noise. No excessive bubbles.
All there would be is quiet serenity as she feels the sensation of weightlessness without using her magic and sees the natural state of life below the sea.
A wondrous mix of maintaining control and letting go.
She has to keep control of her mind and body while also allowing her body to float in the depths without her efforts.
This would prove to be a new outdoor activity for Raven and may just have her less reluctant to visit the beach with her friends.
While she would generally try to free dive alone, Beast Boy would likely join in on occasion, usually in animal form.
This wouldn't necessarily be unpleasant, as he is quiet underwater and could sometimes lead her to interesting sights.
Though he may just start communicating with her as they learn sign language from Jericho.
