So, I wanted to create an appreciation post for the ships that are scorned and receive hate.

For the ships that are treated with homophobia, and are belittled for no other reason than for being between two people of the same gender. The ships whose beautiful emotional developments are ignored, and instead stereotyped into false pictures of “lustful yaoi pairings,” which they are most certainly not.

For the ships that are overshadowed and ignored due to their more popular competition:

For the ships who, conversely, are “too popular,” or have “taken over the whole fandom.”

For the ships who are sent hate for ‘queer-baiting’ in spite of their beautiful, long-developed bond:

For the ships that are considered ‘abusive’ or ‘wrong’ because the characters have problems (and work them out, in DirkJake’s case!):

And the ships between two characters who are “clearly straight,”

(Yes, I have actually seen this argument used against Kagehina XD)

Because every pairing, no matter how minute, mainstream, or controversial, deserves respect. It’s okay if you don’t ship it. Hell, I don’t ship all of the pairings in this post. However, that gives you no excuse to behave with hostility towards the people who do.

(I will likely continue making edits to this post. I didn’t include every ship that has ever received hate, of course, and I may have mis-categorized a few of them. I understand that not everyone will like these ships for a variety of reasons, but I would appreciate it if everyone avoided any shiphate :)

 Frollo and Quasimodo

Mother Gothel and Rapunzel

Frollo and Mother Gothel convince Quasimodo and Rapunzel that their lives are dependent on them. The two villains claim the outside world is a terrible place even though they know this is not true. They also constantly emotionally abuse their victims by implying their worthlessness and destroying their self-esteems. Quasimodo and Rapunzel sympathize with their captors and even believe their captors are protecting them and treating them with kindness. However, both captors are merely using and manipulating their victims for their own selfish purposes.

NOT:

The Beast and Belle

 Belle does not sympathize with the Beast when she is treated poorly. She becomes angry and leaves the castle, only returning by her own wish so that the Beast (who saves her) does not freeze to death. She does not respond nicely towards the Beast until he treats her with respect. In this situation, Belle has control and is not manipulated into feeling for the Beast, nor does the Beast treat her disrespectfully after the first night. While the Beast does have an underlying motive as to keeping Belle in his castle, he abandons this idea and sets her free to make her happy. If anything, this story is a case of Lima Syndrome where the captor starts to sympathize with the victim.

The city is burning, a fire blazing so brightly it eclipses the sky in the shadow of its smoke. If not for the heat and the crackling and the distant sounds of sirens and screaming, the orange lighting could be mistaken for a sunset. 

Shouto moves through the streets with purpose; he knows where he has to go. In the ruins of what was once Yuuei, across the ruined courtyard, Izuku sits with his back towards him, head tilted up and watching the fires on the horizon. 

“Midoriya,” Shouto says. 

“Hey, Shouto,” says Izuku. He turns towards him, a half-smile gracing his lips. “I knew you would come.” Shouto is silent. “What, nothing to say?” Izuku asks. “I was sure this would inspire some kind of soliloquy.” 

“I’m hardly one for monologues,” Shouto replies disdainfully.

“So what do you want, then?” Izuku asks. That’s the question, isn’t it? Shouto wants to rewind time. He wants to go back and redo the years he spent with Izuku, try and figure out what signs he missed, turn Izuku from this path he’s taken. 

But it’s too late for that now, so Shouto simply asks, “Why?” 

Izuku picks at his fingernails. “Why what? Why did I destroy Yuuei? Why did I destroy the city? Why did I kill All Might?” His gaze slides up to meet Shouto’s. “Or, perhaps, what you really want to know is: why did I befriend you, if I only ever intended to betray you in the end?”

Then someone explodes the building next to them and he brings everyone to safety except him... Deku is dying and Kacchan finally realises that he's been in love with this boy since childhood... I’m not sure if I managed the happy ending well enough, but I hope you’ll like it =)

The groundshakes around them, a powerful and frightening feeling that vibrates deep intothe bones. Their surrounding is filled by a deafening crash and the air seemsto vanish from all around them.

Then theview shifts for the students, as they feel how they get picked up and thrown orpushed aside. Most of them fall and slide over the ground, feeling a strongrush of wind against them. When they look up, they realize what happened.

Bakugou ispushing himself back to his feet, staring at the collapsed building that is fartoo close for comfort. The air is filled by fine dust and he quickly holds hissleeve in front of his mouth and nose, so he doesn’t breathe in too much ofthat stuff.

Hisclassmates are dazedly getting to their feet around him, most of them alreadypressing clothes over their faces as well.

“Where’sDeku?” Someone suddenly asks and Bakugou freezes, realizing just who had pushedhim out of the way moments prior. And from the looks of it, Midoriya saved themall.

Lookingaround, he walks towards the destroyed building and stops when he hears a weak,wet rasp. It sounds like someone trying to breathe past broken ribs.

“Shit!”Quickly, he climbs over a piece of wall and carefully avoids a broken window,the shattered glass standing up in an odd, sharp angle. It doesn’t take himlong to reach the source of the sound and it is Deku, his legs stuck under apiece of wall and there is entirely too much blood on his head.

Midoriya’seyes are confused and unfocused, dull and he needs a bit to realize thatBakugou is at his side and tries to get the debris off of him.

“Don’t youfucking die!” Katsuki keeps cursing, his mouth and nose no longer covered as heneeds both hands. A moment later, their classmates are with them and together,they manage to move the wall off of Midoriya.

“It’s notlooking good.” Yaoyorozu says, feeling for Midoriya’s pulse, while Todorokicarefully inspects the wound on his head. Thankfully, they can already hear anambulance coming.

“He lostunconsciousness.” Todoroki suddenly says, sounding alarmed. The students crowdaround the unmoving form of their classmate and Bakugou stands at the side, hischest feeling like a ton weighs down on it.

It takeshim all the way to the hospital to realize why and why he feels so angry andunsettled and impatient to get some update on how Midoriya is doing. He’s inlove with the boy. Had been since their childhood and he just was toobullheaded to realize it earlier.

Once thedoctors declare he’s fine, aside from some scratches, bruises and a pulledmuscle in his lower back, he quickly goes to the waiting area.

Hisclassmates filter in as well, along with their teachers, as they wait for newson how Midoriya is doing. Apparently, the boy is in critical condition and he’sin surgery right now.

Hours pass,before a tired and pale looking doctor comes up to them. However, when he givesthem a small, warm smile, the whole room lets go of their tension in a dizzyingrush.

“He’ll makeit.” The doctor says. “His recovery will take a while and he might be a littlelimited in his running speed, but we managed to fix him back up.” Then the doctorgets more serious and beckons Aizawa to come with him. They’re most likelygoing to discuss some more details.

Bakugouslumps back into his seat and his shoulders feel sore from the tension he heldso long. Deku is going to be fine. He’ll recover like he always does.

Until thenthough, Bakugou has to think about what he does with those feelings of his.

bnha blind!izuku au part 2(?)

continuation of yesterday’s post on my blind!izuku au. Some background on how izuku gets the scar on his face, and why he’s blind. Yesterday’s bit was shinizu, but I’m debating on whether or not i want it to be shinizu or bakudeku. Bakugou and Izuku’s relationship in this au, if possible, is even more complicated…as you will see. I still don’t have a complete plot for this au, but I’ve got lots of ideas and random scenes I want to write! Shinsou fans, don’t fear, there will be more shinsou later. Bakudeku fans, well…uhm. have some angst. Feel free to shoot me an ask or message and tell me what you think!

The air is still, hot, and dry. Every stomp of his foot creates small puffs in the sand near his feet. It’s summertime, sun high and bright, glinting off of the tears running down Deku’s face as he sobs,  slumping into his reddenned and scraped knees.

“Kacchan, Kacchan!” he cries, one fist rubbing his cheek and the other stretched forward as Katsuki stood over him, smile triumphant as the other child wailed helplessly.

Pathetic.

It’s summertime, and the afternoon blaze soaks heavy into his clothes, dampened with sweat. The cicadas shriek in the distance. Everything is hazy, blurred by the bright light. Katsuki is on top of the world; he is the king of all the other kids, and Deku is proof of his superiority. There’s little Katsuki loves more than making useless Deku snivel.

They’re six years old, and Katsuki is getting better and better at using his Quirk every day. He’s gotten into the habit of curling his hands in half-claws by his sides so that the sweat pools there, waiting for his next opponent, for his next show, for his next proof of greatness.

I’m going to be a hero, he thinks, and you’re not.

Later on, when he thinks back to this moment he’ll wonder. Maybe if he had set off the explosions earlier, like he usually did, to watch how the sparks made Deku flinch. Maybe if he had pushed Deku over before he had started running, before he could start sweating as hard, instead of chasing after him when he had first bolted. Maybe if he had listened more to what Tsubasa was saying, he wouldn’t have noticed that Deku was there with them in the park in the first place. For a while he simply blamed the world, and the sun, and the fact that it was summertime.

“Get up, Deku,” he snarls, satisfaction purring in his gut as the boy leans away from him and whimpers. Behind him, his lackeys are chanting, “Deku, Deku, Deku, Deku, useless Deku!”

Shakily, the boy rises, trying and failing to contain his sniffles. As he does, Katsuki moves forward and his lackeys follow. Stumbling backwards, there’s nothing the boy can do. He’s outnumbered and surrounded, and now cornered, with his back against the wall–

“Deku, Deku, Deku, Deku, useless little Deku!”

–He wishes his mom were here, or his dad, or someone, someone strong like All Might–

“What’s that, Deku? You think you can beat me? You think you can become a hero?”

–the cicadas continue shrieking, there’s a buzzing in his ears, and the stifling heat makes it hard to breathe, and young Midoriya Izuku begins to panic.

Katsuki leans forward until there are only a few inches between their noses.

“I’m awesome! And you aren’t. You’re just a useless Deku. If All Might were here, he’d say the same. You’ll never be a hero. You’ll never be anything!”

With a frustrated cry, Izuku pushes off the wall, desperate to escape the taunting, the heat, the pain, his own tears. Katsuki is caught off guard, and jerks backwards too late. Izuku’s hands are gripping his shoulders, pushing, and he can feel the warmth of the other boy’s body on his as he falls forward, screaming and crying, lips right by his ear, voice raised in a tremulous, unending screech. Wheeling and tripping backwards, Katsuki slaps his hand over Izuku’s face to push him away, wincing at the unpleasant noise.

A shockwave. A blast.

Then it’s quiet, faded. His friends’ footsteps travel away from him, running.

“He killed him, he killed him! Katsuki killed Deku!”

Izuku slumps forward, forehead thumping against Katsuki’s chest, before sliding silently to the ground. He isn’t crying anymore.

It’s the biggest explosion Katsuki has ever managed to make thus far in his life.

“He killed him, he killed him! Katsuki killed Deku!”

There’s blood on his shirt now.

Katsuki stands at the edge of his neighborhood park, looking down on the body of Midoriya Izuku.

What’s visible of Izuku’s face is a bloody, destroyed mess.

It smells faintly like nitroglycerin.

This is how Izuku goes blind.
