The Witcher Astrology: Dettlaff

He’s one of my favorite Witcher characters, if not my actual favorite and I’ve pondering for a while about which placements would best suit him, I must admit tho that I was helped by my friends of the Moth Gang.

So let’s begin:

☉Sun in Cancer ♋︎

Cancer is probably the sweetest sign of the zodiac, and the most emotional one, it’s ruled by the moon so one of its characteristics is that it can be really moody, cancers feel everything on a very deep level and that goes for all emotions: sadness, love, anger... an angry or heartbroken Cancer may be rather unpredictable, rings a bell? Another thing that this sign shares with Dettlaff is being introverted, Cancers are often afraid that they feelings might get hurt and tend to protect them.

♏︎ Scorpio Rising ↑

Another water sign, Scorpio is emotional tho it’s emotions can be very dark at times, making it appear kind of gloomy, this is probably the most jealous and possessive out of all the signs, Scorpios are afraid of betrayal and therefore won’t let many get close to them, if they are betrayed, expect revenge; they are very loyal but once their trust is broken there’s no way to go back, if you’re lucky they’ll just cut you out of their lives but if you’re not... well... “if you acknowledge any gods, start praying now!”

☾Moon in Aries ♈︎

We all know Dettlaff to be really impulsive, well Aries Moons are the king of impulsive placements, this is the placement of folks with anger issues, Aries Moons are hot headed they are emotional and will let their emotions (especially anger) control them, when they are angry they often act without thinking and they might just explode in a tornado of chaos, these traits are particularly emphasized when this Moon is paired with an emotional water Sun. But an Aries Moon with a watery Sun sign is not only anger, after that they will most certainly feel remorse for their actions, this guilt induced by the more watery side might also transform to self loathing which is true in Dettlaff’s case as he feels regret after killing his friend De La Croix to the point of cutting off his own hand.

☿ Mercury in Gemini ♊︎ (Retrograde)

Dettlaff is extremely intelligent but also incredibly naive, both traits associated with the sign of Gemini: this airy sign is smart af but has the tendency to get lost above the clouds, Mercury is in its house in this sign, meaning it can express itself fully being a great communicator... if only it wasn’t for it being in Retrograde, leaving Dettlaff with lots of trouble expressing his complicated feelings and making him, as stated above, really naive despite his intelligence: he doesn’t really get along with other higher vampires because he’s much more mature than them but with humans he’s innocent and easy to be taken advantage of because he doesn’t understand them and how complex they can be with all their lies and stuff, Retrograde planets are always bringing hella bad luck and trouble which sadly is the case with Dettlaff.

♀Venus in Leo ♌︎

And finally we have Venus, the sign ruling over our most romantic side, with Dettlaff being so fierce and “bestial” with his was of loving (according to S*anna) it would make sense for him to be a Leo Venus: bold, fiery and loyal. Leo Venus people will go great lengths to prof their love to someone they care about, they are extremely protective and loyal, they can be jealous as they want to be a the center of their significant other’s attention, they like to spoil and be spoiled and enjoy romantic things which are all things I would associate with Dettlaff. Lastly let’s not forget that Venus has a small part in the aesthetic aspect too, people with this planet in the sign of Leo will put a lot of care into their appearance, they might have either a really bold or a really elegant style, and I’d say Dettlaff is a mix of both, we can’t deny that he does look great.
