contrary to popular belief, i have not been consumed by new horizons (because frankly i am too poor to afford a switch), but instead on self-indulgent things. so yeah. apologies for the radio silence :^)
i will put this blog on an indefinite hiatus because i’m in the process of outlining a fic (a stardew one at that :0) and working procrastinating on my other work. if you’d like to see the progress i’ve made so far, you’re welcome to follow my personal-main-inactive account, @https-spangle, or we can chat/add me on discord, https-spangle #2119! (just uh, remember to tell me who you are first)

Siobhan nearly braced for impact and couldn’t help but flinch in the process. When they realized they weren’t going to bump into someone, they quickly sighed a breath of relief when they took in the situation. Siobhan’s mind immediately went into overdrive, head racing with anxious questions such as “what the fuck” (quite a common one when they run into people in the middle of the night), “who is this”, and a more common one in this situation being, “did I just witness a crime”, but only then did they realize who this mysterious person was.
“Cool piercings. Tall. Very nice hair (jealous). Seems reliable, laid-back and cool-looking.”
“Would probably date.”
Oh, fuck.
Siobhan’s mind raced as they gestured for David to wait while they pulled out their notepad from their pocket. He wouldn’t recognize their handwriting, right? Hopefully not... Maybe if they slowed down a bit and didn’t just scribble down the equivalent of what was chicken scratch. Too late, anyways, as they finished jotting down their response before they could do anything about it. Siobhan shone their phone flashlight at the writing as they presented it to David, revealing:
“Did I catch you at a bad time? (Nice handiwork, anyways.)”
David climbed off the ladder and wiped the sweat off his brow, staring up at his masterpiece.
Across the side of the Joja Mart were giant, graffiti letters, stating (rather crudely), “MORRIS SUCKS ASS”.
His fingers were stained green and black from the spray paint, a dead giveaway as to who had painted such a thing, but it didn’t matter. There wasn’t really any “law enforcement” in the town. The closest thing to punishment David would receive was a stern talking to from Lewis, and perhaps being forced to paint over the words. David wouldn’t mind if he had to. That would just mean a new, blank canvas for him to scrawl other obscenities.
David collapsed the ladder and tucked it back into the side alley where he had found it. He heaved his duffel bag up onto his shoulder, content with another night of mischief, when he turned around and nearly ran into someone.

They weren’t very aware of their surroundings, mostly because their thoughts carried them away as they sat at the lonesome table near the saloon’s door. Siobhan seemed distracted, not even glancing whenever a rowdy group burst out in laughter or when an order was called out by the blue-haired waitress. The only time they really moved was when they took a sip from their cup of green tea (which was recommended to them by Suzi) they were nursing.
Only then did they seem to snap out of their imaginative trance when someone quietly took a seat at the same table they sat at. Siobhan’s mind and surroundings came flooding back to reality like a ton of bricks, first impulse to grab the small notepad from their jacket pocket and hastily scribbling down... something. All while almost knocking their cup of tea over.
They showed the stranger the note, silently praying that she was paying attention. Siobhan didn’t know, for they were too embarrassed to look at her in the eye.
“Is this your spot?”
Below that, there was something else in smaller printing:
“If it is, sorry, and I can leave;;;;”
Blue material fluttered in the breeze, high enough to show off a pair of bare legs. Clacking of heels sounded on the cobbled stone path laid out beneath the woman as she sashayed her way to the stardrop saloon. It wasn’t a particularly special occasion, no for Mina it had just been a while since she had separated herself from Jess and the farm. A soft smile played on her lips as the rowdy noises from the local saloon became louder with all the familial sounds of laughter from the people she had come to know as friends.
She was still relatively new to Pelican town and had yet to meet plenty of other people, but the chance to cross a new face was always there when you walked in to Gus’s. Opening the saloon door, Mina gave a friendly wave to her friend behind the bar mouthing the words of her usual beer before taking a seat at Willy’s usual table. Since the two had been friends since she moved to town, that was her usual sitting arrangement, the place she had come to feel most comfortable whether Willy was there or not, which tonight oddly enough, he wasn’t.

Homesick
Lorelei sat at the edge of the dock, their back to the front door of Willy’s shack. It was early in the morning, and despite being spring, a chilly ocean breeze made them shiver. They slouched, holding a fishing pole in their hands tiredly. They had been at it for a few hours already, a cooler of water on a red wagon sat beside them, already housing several sardines and anchovies.
They stared ahead blankly, eyes fixed on the choppy sea. Thinking of their hometown, and the five year boat expedition that brought them to Pelican Town this past winter.
Lorelei thought that after all this time away from home, they wouldn’t still feel that heavy lump in their throat when they thought of the little things. Like how the town smelled at low tide, or the sound of the busy wharf, and the breakfasts their dad used to make that Lorelei could barely remember-
The fishing line gave a small tug, and Lorelei reeled up their latest catch easily. Another small fry, they tossed it into the cooler and sighed. In the distance they could see a small ship, a white speck in the water. Who was on that boat? Where were they going? Maybe they were from home, or somewhere even farther.
Lorelei’s eyes stung with bottled emotions, though they preferred to think it was just the salty ocean air. There was no use in getting riled up over nothing, it’s not like they were a guppy fresh from home. They had been away for a long time, they were used to it, so why did the homesickness feel so fresh?
That was probably enough fishing for today. Lorelei stowed their fishing gear away and put the lid back on the cooler of fish. They took hold of the handle of the wagon and began to tug it back to their house, where they would draw the curtains and try not to look at the ocean for a bit.
