i wish people were kinder to people who speak slowly or stutter. and to people who need time to process what others are saying, or to translate their thoughts and feelings to words. i function at a slower pace than some people have the patience for and im not doing anything wrong. they are by being rude.

Autistic Narcissists
I’ve noticed a pattern in myself that another autistic narc has confirmed they experience. I ended up internally calling what experience a narcissistic meltdown, where my autism and NPD combine to cause me to have a narcissism fueled meltdown.
I guess it would be similar to a narc crash but it’s a lot more specific and crashes can last for a long time, whereas with a meltdown it can last from 10 minutes to just a few hours.
For me, it’s when something triggers my NPD, and because I’m either unable to fix it or don’t know how to deal with it, I can get overwhelmed and a meltdown happens.
I feel like autistic with NPD have a very specific experience, and this would be a useful term.

the word empathy is WIDELY misused, even in mental health spaces.
empathy:
is responding to a person’s emotions by experiencing the same emotion as them (i.e. feeling sad when something sad happens to that person, or happy when something happy happens to that person.)
is an automatic response that cannot be controlled
cannot be learned
sympathy:
is recognizing that another person is in pain, even if you do not experience that pain, and offering comfort to that person
is something a person must actively choose to do
can be learned
compassion:
is showcasing care and support via words and actions
is something a person must actively choose to do
can be learned
if you need an example of a person with no empathy who practices sympathy and compassion, look no further than data from star trek: the next generation. he doesn’t have emotions at all, but he’s still kind to people and wants to help them.
Tumblr media
stop telling people that they’re evil because they don’t experience empathy. stop equating empathy with morality. stop equating empathy with caring. stop saying that cruel people “lack empathy.” stop throwing neurodivergent and mentally ill people under the bus.

stop. stop fucking acting like depression anxiety and adhd and gifted kid syndrome and ptsd flashbacks are the only symptoms of trauma ever. traumatized people have personality disorders traumatized people have psychosis traumatized people have anger issues traumatized people have did/osdd traumatized people have delusions and honestly a lot of these things are SO much more common than you think, we've just been forced to constantly hide it because we're terrified of being sent death threats or told we're faking, abusive, the list goes on. support traumatized people with "scary" disabilities from their trauma, it's not all about gifted kids with adhd and it never was.

Aspects of ASPD & NPD that cause distress for the person who actually has the disorder, because so much of the focus is on how people with "bAd PeRsOn DiSoRdEr" affect others:
(Also by definition these disorders cause clinically significant impairment or distress TO THE PERSON THEMSELVES so fuck off with your ableism).
ASPD -
* Impulsivity, poor decision making, struggle to handle money responsibly etc.
* Difficulty planning ahead for the future.
* Irritability and unstable mood.
* Disregard for own safety leading to reckless behavior such as substance abuse, self harm. This makes them statistically more likely to die prematurely than other people.
* Diffuculty holding down jobs.
* Extreme boredom and restlessness, anhedonia (inability to feel enjoyment).
* Feeling disconnected and unable to relate to others leading to isolation and lack of meaningful relationships.
* Frequently traumagenic disorder meaning the person has a background of trauma.
* High comorbidity with anxiety disorders, depression, and suicidal ideation.
NPD -
* High level of insecurity and concern over self-image/ the way others perceive them.
* Need to obtain and higher and higher degree of success or power in life leading to unhappiness, inability to live in the moment.
* Extreme sensitivity to rejection.
* Severe, intense feelings of self-hatred over rejection or perceived rejection. Or not meeting own standards of success etc.
* Jealousy and comparing self to others.
* Feeling disconnected and unable to relate to others leading to isolation and lack of meaningful relationships.
* Frequently traumagenic disorder meaning the person has a background of trauma.
* High comorbidity with other PDs, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and addiction.

good vs. bad anti-psychiatry
I’ve noticed that two very different things both get referred to as anti-psychiatry, at least on here, so:
Tumblr media
left column = cool and good
right column = completely insufferable and I probably hate you

"people's npd influences the specific ways they abuse other's which is what makes narcissistic abuse real"
so does literally every other trait someone has. thats how human beings work. the fact that my mother was a woman influenced the ways she abused me. her womanhood and her relationship to womanhood were directly and inextricably linked to how she abused me
that doesnt make the emotional abuse I suffered from her suddenly "female abuse"
y'all really need to grow more fucking braincells and stop harassing and blaming a subset of mentally ill abuse survivors for ur childhood trauma
ur parents didn't abuse u because they were narcissits they abused u becauee they were shit parents. stop trying to blame abuse on a mental disorder and recognize that all abuse comes from the same place and manifests differently depending on the individual but is always rooted in core abusive behavior that everyone is capable of. including u.
