Bear is an award-winning writer, educator and storyteller and author of six books. He is a much loved speaker and storyteller because his signature blend of wit and warmth brings all the people to the yard (regardless of their sex designation, gender identity, or gender expression) (which he would like to remind you are not the same thing).

Meet our 2017 keynote speaker, Dr. Kelley Winters.

Dr. Kelley Winters is a writer and consultant on issues of #gender diversity in medical and public policy. She is the author of Gender Madness in American Psychiatry: Essays from the Struggle for Dignity (2008) and a member of the International Advisory Panel for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (#WPATH) Standards of Care, the GATE - Global Action for Trans* Equality Expert Working Group, and the Advisory Boards for #TransYouth Family Allies (#TYFA) and the Santa Barbara Transgender Advocacy Network (#SBTAN). She was recognized in the 2013 Trans 100 Inaugural List, recognizing work for the #transgender community in the US. She has presented papers and presentations on gender policy issues at annual conventions of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association and the Association of Women in Psychology. Kelley wanders the highways of America in an old Mazda, ever in search of comfort food.

Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for our members. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use all gym facilities based on their sincere self-reported gender identity. The manner in which this member expressed her concerns about the policy exhibited behavior that management at the Midland club deemed inappropriate and disruptive to other members, which is a violation of the membership agreement and as a result her membership was cancelled

In 2015, our keynote speaker was Kylar W. Broadus, Senior Public Policy Counsel of the Transgender Civil Rights Project at the National LGBTQ Task Force.  

"Kylar has enjoyed a prolific career as an activist, writer, lawyer, professor, lobbyist and public speaker. As an attorney, Broadus practiced with a focus on LGBT law, particularly, transgender rights. He currently serves as faculty at Lincoln University in Missouri."
