TravelingSession.com is a departure from traditional travel websites. Here is a scenario to help explain the concept. Let's say you wanted to buy a shirt. So, you go online and find a shirt you might like. What's the first thing you do? Check the reviews. Let's say the shirt has 1,000 5-star reviews. That means it's a good shirt, right? What happens if everyone that gave the shirt a 5-star review was a tall person that wears the shirt tucked? But you're short, and you want to wear the shirt untucked. Do you see the problem? The reviews focus on the shirt, not the person buying the shirt. Most websites approach travel this way. The focus is on the destination and not the individual traveler. So, how do we shift the focus to the traveler and what they are looking for in a destination? First, instead of rating a location as a whole, we created five rating categories and the ability to add ratings for each. Travelers can leave a rating for each location using these five categories. They can also write a review with additional options, such as pros and cons, travel categories, etc. Second, we needed to give travelers insight into a location at a glance without reading through the reviews. But how do you provide a rating that holds value to every reader? Our travel review system calculates the ratings across the community for each location. Then, the algorithm formulates a personal travel rating for each user per location. Finally, travel reviews mean more when they are from someone with similar travel habits. How helpful is a travel review from a luxury traveler to a backpacker? Our travel profiles allow travelers to select up to three styles, one primary and two secondaries, to describe how they travel.
