The Real Story Behind Valentine’s Day 14th Feb
Valentine’s Day is the day when people show their affection to another by sending cards, flowers, chocolates and other messages of love and gifts. Valentine’s Day is a a day to celebrate romance, love and feal with a face.
How Did Valentine’s Day Start?
Valentine’s Day is said to begun from a Roman festival called Lupercalia, which takes place in mid-February to welcome spring. As part of the celebrations, the boys recorded the names of their loved ones and kept them in a box. They also often got married during the festival. The church decided to make Lupercalia a Christian feast and decided to commemorate the patron saint of lovers, St. Valentine. It has chosen February 14 as the day of celebration and has since been celebrated worldwide as Valentine’s Day.
There is a true story full of love, sacrifice and commitment. But the origins of this candy and cupid festival are dark, bloody – and a little spoiled.
Sad Story Behind Valentine’s Day
In the third century, the Roman Empire was ruled by Emperor Claudius II Gothic. He was nicknamed Claudia the Cruel because of his brutal leadership and propensity to wage war and abuse his people. In fact, during the third century he fought so many wars that he fought to recruit enough soldiers.
Claudius believed that conscription for the army was stopped because Roman men did not want to leave their love or family, so he canceled all Roman marriages and contracts.
But a simple Christian priest, Valentine, came and stood up for love. He began secretly marrying soldiers before they went to war, even on the emperor’s orders. In the year 269. A. D. , Emperor Claudius found this news about the secret ceremonies. He had thrown Valentine into prison and announced to be put to death.
As Valentine was awaiting execution, he fell in love with a blind girl. On the evening of his execution, with no writing instruments available, Valentine is said to have written her a sonnet in ink that he squeezed from violets. Legend said that his words made the blind woman see again. It was a short and sweet romance because the next day Valentine was clubbed to death by Roman executioners.
Concept of Love in Marriage
St. Valentine sacrifice his life so that young couples could be bonded together in holy matrimony. They may have killed the Valentine, but can not his spirit. Even after many centuries, his death, the story of Valentine’s self-sacrificing commitment to love was legendary in Rome. At the end of the day it was given to the saints and the Catholic Church decided to create a feast in his honor. Valentine’s Day is the day of lovers. The meeting of two souls are celibrated this day on 14th Feb.
