Since I’m again going off to college, I will be updating and revising this list with some other things that I think will be useful! I’ll keep you posted and perhaps by July, I will start using some of my own advice too :)
Things to pack
So I put together a small packing list when I was moving away from home. Let me know if you have any additions to this.
Room
Storage boxes
Whiteboard
Fleece covers
Fairy lights, decor material
Hot water bag. I have a hot or cold bag so it can function as an ice pack and a hot water bag depending on the situation.
Bathroom
Oil, body lotion
Face wash, scrub
Soap, shampoo, conditioner
Razor, nose hair trimmer, waxing strips, etc
Makeup- eyeliner, lipstick, nail paints, etc
Deoderant, perfume, etc
Food
Kettle
Basic utensils- pots, pans, plate, mug, spoons, knives, forks
Snacks from home, ready to eat packet, hot chocolate, coffee, tea bags, pasta, peanut butter and other spreads, etc
Technology
Charger(s)- phone, laptop, spares, etc
Devices- Phone, Laptop, iPad, Kindle, etc
Pendrive
Hard drive
Extension cords (with USBs), surge protectors
Academics
Extra notebooks
Reference books
Stationery
Pens (blue, black, coloured pens, etc)
Pencils (Mechanical or normal)
Highlighters*
Paper (plain, ruled, graph, Cornell notes)
*I really like pastel highlighters but a cheaper version that I am using currently is pencil colours or crayons. I love pastel colours the most for highlighting. It is a good tactic to ensure a recognisable colour scheme in your notes.
Others
Spare spectacles, chargers, and other day-to-day necessities
First Aid kit: band-aids, muscle cramp sprays, crepe bandages, specific medications prescribed, pain killers, etc
Small sewing kit

Coming back to this blog
It’s been a while.
I’m finally done with my semester and am moving on to university. In this limbo period, having an account where I can post my thoughts and updates can help keep me on track and hopefully, it’s something useful to someone here too.
These days I’m thinking more about the sort of person I want to be. I’ve created a list of prompts to think about to understand what I need to work on and untangle my values and beliefs. I also want to read some self-help books to help me think on this in a more structured manner.
I’ve also been struggling with being in quarantine with only my family to talk to. Some morbid thoughts, bouts of derealisation and slightly anxious thoughts. I’m trying to keep myself busy and calm myself down and find things to be excited about but hopefully, documenting some of my thoughts for later might also be helpful.

I miss college so much. I finally decided my masters so I’m reading a little bit about it and thought about doing some study notes for the good ol’ times.

Hello, lovelies! I’ve gotten a couple of asks about studying so I decided to condense them into one post for you guys! I’m trying to hit a bunch of different topics so if you need an even more specific post you can send an ask! Without any further ado, have some tips! My studyblr is @spacey-scholar
Prep
First, you always need a good base for your day! Especially if you’re studying a lot.
Make a good full breakfast! Ex. Eggs and Toast, Smoothie and fruit, Pancakes and a cup of juice.
How’s your hygiene? Do you need to shower, brush your teeth, wash your face, condition your hair? Do it! You’ll be distracted if you feel messy!
Get dressed like it’s a normal day. Staying in PJ’s is okay! But being ready for the day seriously helps focus!
Likewise, your space should be clean. A clean space is a clean mind! Remove dishes, trash, scrap paper, and extra items. Wide down your desk, organize your pens and books. Your space should feel like your space!
Now make a list of what you need to get done! What needs to be done Now, what needs to be done Soon, and what needs to be done Later?
Order your list how you want your day to go, and don’t put super-tough subjects back to back, or subjects that are similar exercises i.e. reading thirty pages of two different books back to back is no fun.
The Studying
It’s important to buckle down with No Distractions! If you find yourself distracted put your phone away! If you need your phone, put it on Do Not Disturb until you’re done. I also do this at night for better sleep.
Pick the best technique for you, Pomodoro, reward-based, group studying, etc.
Play music but only if it will not distract you! If you sing along or daydream it’s the wrong music! Classical, Lo-fi, and White noise are all good! My Spotify Here has some good ones.
Use a nice journal (I don’t mean expensive!) and pens/pencils you enjoy using. I like to have a specific journal and color dedicated to each subject.
Take notes on recorded lectures and classes, if you’re doing online classes right now try to screen record or record the audio! That way if you space out you can play it later and take notes, and you can absorb the lesson better instead of being distracted.
Don’t worry about your notes, stationary, pictures, being beautiful and your grades being perfect. Life doesn’t always look the way it does on Instagram. And the people who spend hours trying to get a good photo of their coffee are not studying!
Use flashcards! Quizlet is good if you need premade ones! If you can save up and buy them, Barrons AP Flash Cards are the best in my opinion. Very clean, not too long, very durable, and cover all subjects.
Feeling Distracted
If you catch yourself drifting off and getting into your head, get up and take a quick walk, stretch, or energizer.
It’s okay if this happens, don’t guilt yourself! practice affirmation. The best and smartest still get distracted.
If you are drifting, why? Are you hungry? Tired? Thirsty? Bored? Get a snack and some water, take a break and rest, find a way to make your studying more enjoyable.
Remember that Motivation and Discipline are different things. Sometimes we just won’t be motivated, we won’t want to do it and it will be rather frustrating. But the cure to this is not shaming its discipline. Remind yourself “This may be hard, and I may not want to do this, but I want to reach my goals and If this is what It takes I will make it happen.
Always do just one more page of you’re tired. One at a time and oh you did it! Maybe just one more? One more? Eh, one more just to finish the train of thought, Oh just- I’m done? Nice!
If you really can’t focus just move on and come back to this subject, you can always ask for help.
Supplementary Things
There are so many apps you can use to study, for free! My favorites are Tide, Quizlet, Focus Keeper, Forest, Flora, Egenda, SpanishDict, Photomath, and Kahn Academy.
You can also join a study group! You may know one, but if you don’t, there are a lot of online ones! I’m in a study Discord and have been for a while! it helps a lot and motivates me to finish my work!
You can make a studyblr, but don’t do it just for the aesthetics! It’s about studying, and sometimes that gets messy! Sometimes we fail a test, we spill our tea on our notes, we cry because we don’t understand the formula. That’s the part you don’t see!
Having cute stationery can really help, as well as nice organizers and decorations for your space! I don’t have much money so I get a lot of stuff on Amazon or FB Marketplace.
Health
Remember that no matter what you are good enough. It’s okay if you fail, it’s okay if you struggle.
It’s also okay if your path doesn’t go the way you expected! Maybe you go to a different school than expected! Or choose a trade instead! Maybe you take a gap year! Maybe your passion changes! Maybe it changes six times!
Your health is always more important than your school. If you are in pain, mentally or physically, if you are anxious, exhausted, burnt out, talk to your teachers about it! You matter more than a grade.
Your best is good enough! And your best doesn’t look the same as someone else’s best! Don’t compare!
Now go get out there and study!

Ok guys I’m coming back to this tumblr again. My school will probably be online for the next few months (at least upto November) and so I’m gonna need some extra motivation to sit down and study. Last term, I realised that uploading posts to this tumblr, doing challenges, trying to make my surroundings prettier for pictures, etc helped in making me more focused. Thus, I’m going to slowly return to this account over the next few days. Hope you’re all keeping safe!

“Thus taste is never class neutral. Not only is it an important signifier of educational achievement and of class values, but it becomes the means through which class values are normalized and perpetuated within the larger society. In fact, this normalization of class values […] through the transmission of certain class-inflected tastes, Bourdieu tells us, remains “perhaps the best-hidden” effect of the educational system. That educational degrees and titles are themselves important traditional markers of class privilege in France (where individuals have traditionally been assigned to “hierarchically ordered classes” of achievement) indicates the very real stake that education has in perpetuating the existing class structure, with all its traditional markers of titles, degrees, and cultural preferences. And of course, as U.S. cultural critics have been quick to point out, education’s investment in the existing class structure, the existing hierarchy of class values, is not restricted to Europe. Andrea Juno and V. Vale put it best: “The concepts of ‘good taste’ are intricately woven into society’s control process and class structure. Aesthetics are not an objective body of laws suspended above us like Plato’s supreme ‘Ideas’; they are rooted in the fundamental mechanics of how to control the population and maintain the status quo.””
Joan Hawkins, from “Cutting Edge: Art-Horror and the Horrific Avant-garde”, 2000.

How do you protect yourself from being stalked online by your parents?
I often get messages from teens living with their abusive parents telling me about how terrifying it is for them to even look at my blog in case their parent finds out. I was a teenager before social networking on the internet. Honestly, when I was a teenager there was barely an internet yet. So, I don’t know how people protect themselves but I feel like probably there are ways. If you know please do share! A lot of people would find it helpful.

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”          – Confucius
the curve of forgetting
the curve of forgetting describes how we retain or get of information we absorb.
day 1: you go into a lecture knowing 0% and come out knowing 100% of what you know (regardless of whether you know it extremely well or not)
day 2: you did not do any reviewing of your notes from day 1 therefore you have lost 50%-80%
and as the days progress we forget less and less
think about midterms! notice how around midterms when you’re trying to study for something (that you haven’t been reviewing for regularly) it feels like the material is VERY difficult and almost as if you’ve never learned it before
formula to reshape the curve
within 24 hours of your lecture spend 10 minutes reviewing the material
a week later: it will only take 5 minutes to REACTIVATE the same material
ultimately, you will reshape the curve
day 30: by this day your brain will only need 2-4 minutes to recall
information on the curve of forgetting was taken from the university of waterloo (x)
my formula to reshape the curve using the information above
before class: spend 10 minutes PREVIEWING the material.
after class: spend 10 minutes REVIEWING the material
do this regularly. this will be your preview/review system for each class.
a week later: try to review a week later. i know that school/life can get pretty hectic, but try to make sure you are reviewing regularly.
maybe record yourself saying some important details/concepts from your notes the night before and on your daily commute to school plug in those earphones and listen to it. i am an auditory learner and i find that listening to my notes before i go to bed and right when i wake up have truly helped me retain information. studies have shown that the best time to study is right before going to bed and right when you wake up.
a month later: after a month, review what you’ve learned so far in your class. trust me this will be a very very short review. everything will look very familiar to you and it won’t look as difficult as it used to.
basically your review schedule should be the following:
1 hour before learning the material
1 hour after learning the material (or within 24 hours of learning it b/c i know we’re all very busy people)
1 day later
1 week later
1 month later
remember everyone learns, studies, and retains information differently!! my personal belief is that your technique is what matters most. it is not about your innate ability/talent. find a technique that works for you.
more suggestions:
active learning > passive learning
when taking notes use the Cornell method. it forces you to ask questions and summarize what you’ve learned.
set frequent, short, review sessions
test yourself constantly! there are so many resources online.
people who are under stress have difficulty remembering things so CHILL OUT
don’t rush, take your time
repetition is key
practice MAKES PERFECT
group items together
fish, vitamin b12, and green tea can help w/ memory
don’t give up. like morrissey said “these things take time.”

i don’t like how endings in real life come on so suddenly without making sense, without much warning. one minute you’re in the middle of something and the next it’s all a very long time ago and you’re a different person and none of it is ever coming back

Hi everyone! I’ve so enjoyed doing my 2020 quarantine challenge and getting to know so many of you (and discovering your amazing blogs) that i’ve decided to create this new SUMMER STUDYING CHALLENGE! i did consider continuing my other challenge but my school year has now ended and the way i study in the summer and my priorities is very different compared to during school time - which i’m sure is the same for may of you! I’ve created this challenge to try and keep myself motivated during the summer (because i am ridiculously busy XD) but i also want to use this time to get to know many more of you and stay motivated together  💕
(also i know that many people struggle for ideas of what to post during the summer so hopefully these will give you some ideas.

I want to see what you are posting so please use the tag #summer studying challenge and I’ll track this tag and reblog as much as possible!
