“In my garden, birds sing, bees hum and the flowers and butterflies bewitch me. Every bug and beetle, petal and leaf grants peace to me in the present moment. As I tread upon the emerald blades that sway beneath cerulean skies, my garden unveils to me the philosophy of life.”
— Freya Turrill, The Land Maid

Portret van Julius Julin en Anna Kroutén in de tuin, in de zomer (c.1890). Johan Krouthén (Swedish, 1858-1932).
Krouthén broke away from the traditions of the Swedish Academy, turning to Realism and Idealism. Immediately after his studies, he spent a few months in Paris and in Denmark where he associated with the Skagen Painters. Back in Sweden he painted pictures of gardens and portraits of local people.
