Headcanon: Star used to call Clover "son," y'know, as in, "looky here, son, I'm about ta teach ya somethin'." After Clover's gone, Star was thinking back on all the things he tried to teach Clover, and all the times he called them "son." Something inside him clenches, and he realizes for the first time just how much he wants a child of his own.

I don't think it's actually canon that Star and Clover see each other as father and child, but they definitely give off that vibe. So when you consider that maybe Star feels guilty for trying to kill his adopted kid, it really makes the similarity between him and Ceroba that much more prominent.
