To this day, I think my favorite film theory that I accept in my mind as canon is the theory that Shrek literally came up with his own name on the spot as he first meets Donkey

So happy with Allison's arc this season actually. The writers had been treating her like shit for two seasons she deserved to finally snap. This is the Alison ive been waiting to see she's everything a person in her situation would become, could have been a little bit more evil even. Good for her tho.

only for the show to come back like "HAHAJAHAHA THE TWO HARGREEVES ARE GETTING MARRIED, THEY HAVE THE SAME DAD AND ARE BECOMING ONE BIG FAMILY LOL 🤣🤣 Whats that?? LILA AND DIEGOS WITH A CHILD!!! XOXO" and they still refused to explain if they are actually related or if reg is really their dad

I see this as the writers opting out of trying to write complex female characters and putting it upon Elliot to give us good representation.
I’m disappointed about Vanya becoming Viktor. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad for Elliot Page and I love to see more trans representation in media but to me Vanya was a character I strongly identified with and it was great to see a girl become so powerful despite deep psychological trauma caused by her family. Vanya was my favorite character in the comics after Five. Now I feel like shit because I feel like I should just be happy with how his character can “blossom into his true self” as a lot of the posts I’ve seen say.

i’m sorry but i’m never going to be over the abysmal failure that is tuatv’s treatment of allison and i’m never going to shut up about it. they slashed her entire personality from the comics, her arc, and her character development for WHAT? so in season 1 she can spend all her time trying to be a better sister to vanya. how she can help vanya heal. how she can protect vanya. a white woman. a white woman who almost killed her and literally took her voice away. so allison can wake up from her near death experience and immediately forgive her and actively BLAME HERSELF for what happened (because her voice is a weapon, after all).
to then continue in s2 without allowing allison the space to heal or process any of that. even when she’s dropped in the middle of racist america during the civil rights movement where the use of her voice to stand up for whats right is still framed as a moral dilemma without any real weighted discussions about what’s happening. they could have dissected this, she could have found ways to speak out without her powers to make a difference illustrating the importance of using your voice (for allison–that it can be a tool for good in many ways and it can help change the world even without superpowers), but none of this happens at all and /most/ of the work for “the movement” is done by her husband before they just move on entirely.
and maybe one of the strangest, grossest arts of this all? allison should be more motivated than ANYONE to get back to the present and fix things because oh yeah, her daughter was incinerated during the apocalypse. she should be /leading/ the team. why is she settling down and marrying and seemingly perfectly fine with that complacency knowing that she was forced to abandon her child and let her die. claire was one of her main goals from season 1, her motivation. she was determined to fight to see her, to fix things for her and to be better for her, but there’s no mention of this in s2. her reaction is to just? accept that, apparently. there is zero acknowledgement of her feelings on what it was like as a mother to make that choice, no lingering resentment, guilt, sadness, or anger even when it was the direct result of her and her family that caused it to happen. no one even so much as brings it up. there’s just nothing.
one of the moments at the end sums it up pretty well in the last episode. when they finally do make it back to 2019, allison comments that she should find claire. luther tells her she should have a drink first and then she follows to do just that. after all this time grappling with the fact that her daughter was killed, LIVING with the weight of it, but let’s put it off a little longer because allison’s pain doesn’t matter, it never did, and there are more important things to be revealed.
the fact is, this show spent so much time illustrating the way the other siblings cope and process everything that has happened to them for better or for worse, but allison is literally NEVER allowed the same respect. she’s constantly relegated to “helper” character, there to prop up others without any real meaty arc of her own which is also why any attempt on the show’s part to say anything relevant about racism falls very, very flat.
allison had one of the biggest, and most interesting arcs in the original dallas storyline and they replaced it with absolutely nothing.

I didn’t fully want to make a post on it but I’m going to. If Person A and Person B calls the same person mom, dad, or parent, then they should not be shipped. It’s incesty and grody, even if “oh they’re not biological siblings” or “they weren’t raised with a sibling dynamic”

Hot take: five and Allison’s potential dynamic has more flavor than five and vanya’s
Oooohh, spicy! Potential is they key word here. I think both have the potential to have a lot more flavour, so it's not fair to compare them. I really want to see Allison rumour Five, though. Not for anything serious, just as comic relief, I think that'd be neat.
I loved their dynamic in the Dallas comic, but the show didn't seem to care for that.. hope the writers will develop their relationship some more.

all of the siblings should date their numbersakes tbh
Marcus being a soft supportive bf to Luther? Gimme that wholesome lovin!
Sparrow!Ben being a sexy asshole to Diego? The snark and edginess of the pair of them? Do you realize how much competitive dumbfuckery you can fit in this ship?
Fei and Allison would be an absolute power couple? They will be in possession of so many brain cells, i-
Dudebro Alphonso and Klaus.. The clown on clown sexual tension, the crackhead energy!! Everyone else will simply leave any room theyre in.
Sloane is feeling tied down? Well Five has some experience running away from home, they can just.. go on holiday? visit exotic places, kill a dictator or two
Poor Jayme is a loner and there isn't even an umbrella for her, but fret not, she shall be in lesbians with Lila
Oh, to be the weird sibling... Christopher and Vanya will destroy the moon together this season, im calling it!!

Honestly, I find Vanya the most annoying out of all the UA. Klaus annoys me but I also like him and find him funny, so I'm always 50/50 on him. Luthor is just... Bland to me, so I don't really care about him. I adored Ben and was super sad when he gave himself up so Vanya could live, but then I saw he'd be in the upcoming season and that was super exciting.
Lila's just annoying and disinteresting overall. I loved Diego at first but then the 'new' version of him when they go back in time is kind of... Eh. I'm undecided. I liked him when he was more put together.
I love Allison, especially the way she is after she finds herself and a purpose when they go back in time. I love how kind she is and how direct, and honestly I'm glad she found someone that isn't Luthor.
Five ever so slightly reminds me of a more unhinged, less refined Hannibal Lecter/Sherlock Holmes. I find his character probably the most interesting of them all; but then again he is the one with the most story focus, so I guess its kind of unfair to say that.
I think all the white characters get given the 'white people special treatment', honestly. All of them have bad qualities and irredeemable qualities and it all boils down to how attractive the fans find them and how much the fans relate to them.
Ohhh thanks for the hot takes! I disagree with most of them 😘
Diego? Put together? The guy that got arrested like 2 times in s1? At least the mental institution is a step in the right direction lmaoo.
Love the idea of Five as Hannibal tho, just munchin on whats left of the commission. Also i love that in your head Hannibal and Sherlock are similar enough to put a slash between like they are the same type of character 😂😂 and the fact that it looks like a ship sjaagajb
Doesnt it always boil down to attractiveness and relatability with any characters tho?

I’m sorry but I feel like vanya has the most white favoritism💀 five is a murderer, yeah, but he only kills when he feels like he has to, although I’m not saying it’s justified. Vanya was literally killing because she pissed😭 someone HONKED in front of her and and she killed them😭 and pogo😭(no hate to vanya tho, I like her)
Ok first things first: "only kills when he feels like he has to" ?? I feel like I have to kill about 10 times a day lmaoo, doesnt mean its ok to do it. Five murders intentionally, Vanya kills when she loses control. I think this is a significant difference to make, if entirely irrelevant to the issue of white favoritism.
//im sorry i kinda went off the answer to your ask is bolded under the line//
The way I understand the term white favoritism here (correct me if I’m wrong English is my second language) is the writers/producers or fans treating a white character better than they would a character of colour. We see it in white characters receiving more screentime, more complex and thought out storylines as well as better development both in canon and in fan works. We also see it, as others have pointed out, fan reactions such as Lila getting dragged for being a brown girl version of Five.
However, where fans are concerned, I think it gets a little more complex than “Person A doesnt like this poc character, but likes that white character, this is racism”. See, fandom likes to think they are gods that take canon and play with it as if it’s a piece of clay, but tua is an extremely well-crafted visual media, these characters have a lot to them, their presentation, the way they are written, and their development dictate the audience’s response. Most of the responsibility with avoiding something as subtle as white favoritism, imo, falls on the show’s creators; you cannot expect/rely on people having good enough analytical skills to recognise both the creators bias and /possibly/ their own.
Do you think that Robert Sheehan’s wardrobe choices are accidental? Or the fact that teenagers are in love with Aidan Gallagher? Both characters are designed to be attractive to certain demographics (LGBTQ+ community/ horny kids that dont have a one direction(those two do overlap)). The issue here isnt so much about which character does the worse thing and is forgiven by fandom. The issue comes down to the fact that fans are more willing to empathize with characters that are better written (to be likable) and better presented. Not nicer or more moral.
The whole Point of the show is that there aren’t objectively good or bad people, but if there were, all of the sibling would fall into the bad category. That’s why it’s a good show, it makes you empathize with people who do awful things. That being said, Vanya is a well-written character, but she’s literally the Big Bad of season 1 and a red herring big bad in s2. Shes way too central to the plot to not be given the required attention. But in terms of fan-reception ( and this is a very difficult to say for certain, as it’s impossible to measure) I have noticed that people tend to not care for her as much? When i say she’s a “smoll bean”, ya gotta notice the irony, I am fully aware she murdered people (although how much of that was her fault is up for a Very Long Discussion), she was by no means a likable character until s2 where she got to date Sissy (and i think this was also very intentional of the writers).
So, to get back to the point of your ask: Although there is always some racial bias behind every creative decision, I don't think shes that big of an example of favoritism on the side of the creators here, she needs to be a compelling character to perform her function, but at no point do i think, “man, Vanya is just so perfect, what a wonderful person, truly a model human being i want more of her and only her.” And this might just be my experience, but i haven't noticed her being much of a fan-favourite. In fact, I think she’s the second least liked character after Luther. People argue a lot about if she shoud be forgiven, she’s definitely not viewed in entirely positive light. The people who love her, mostly find the positives in her relationship with Sissy and the wlw representation. Which is a neat trick that Steve pulled, ngl, he got us there, he really knows his demographic(oh boy but thats another long topic right there). I don’t see much fan content about her on her own? Idk I could be wrong or too desensitized.

How problematic is your tua ship?
0 - Entirely unproblematic. Visssy, and klave for example are neither incest nor in any way unhealthy, also gay so yay for them
1 - Perfect, if not for that one thing. Be it incest or slight toxicity, they aren't that bad and with a slight adjustment, you can write entirely Pure fanfiction about them. Prime example is Klaus/Diego. Diego/Lila also fits in here because they are half-incest, half-toxic. I'd put Five/Dolores here too, because she's.. you know...
2 - Ships that are problematic, but meh, you do you (im sure you're working through some trauma). Like Klaus/Ben - they have an ok relationship, but its incest, also a little bit mmmmmmmmean and non-consent-y. Also Leonard/Vanya, because that was some manipulation and definitely fucked.
3 - This ship will get you anon hate, and will enrage people with how messed up it is. Ex: Luther/Allison- not only do they call the same person daddy, they have some very fucked up codependency/living in the past thing going on, how can you think they could ever be happy together?
4- Straight up messed up, due to context, but would be an a-ok relationship in an AU where everything is different. You will get death threats. Most Five ships go here, Fiveya, Five/Diego, Five/Klaus - they'd be fine, honestly, if it wasn't for the incest and the 13 Again thing, they are very moral and healthy ships.
5- Unforgivable, you are going to jail and then to hell for it. Five/Handler - Bad Vibes all over, from the workplace harassment to the general harassment and murderous intent, to the kid body thing. This ship is so toxic i genuinely think incest is the more moral choice.

I don’t get it man, you say you’re a little obsessed with five, but you’re tired of seeing posts about him..?
I am large. I contain multitudes.
But really I think the problem is in being obsessed for a lil too long. At some point you start to notice the same discussions just going in circles and it's like there's nothing new to say? (Also the more time passes, the more nitpicky you and others get about characters)
That and the fact that ppl talking about time travel makes my pretty little head hurt and ive been so Brave about it for so long...
