@scopophobia-polaris asked for some more details on this silly guy and I needed to post the redesign of his scars so I'm gonna ramble!

General "rules" I am using for the Bad Moon AU:

-You cannot change the future. If you saw the future, it happens. Maybe not to you, but it happens. Time travel either involves splitting timelines, temporal loops (see the song of storms), or two extremely similar timelines that collapse together (a dumb child goes to the past to plant beans). What does this mean for Termina? OH GOD OH GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TINY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

-If you turn into something, you will never entirely turn back.

-Two opposing wishes on the Tri Force will really fuck things up. Also, it happened. Bad Moon is about dealing with the fallout.

Tiny has a series of magic scars from his various transformations. Most of them are benign or beneficial due to Farore's blessing and the Fierce Deity's Mask's intervention, but not all. Believe it or not, this is me nerfing him, because I'm getting rid of all the Terminian masks except for the FD's mask, which gets broken.

-From the Deku mask he has ivy vines. Most are centered along his spine. He uses them to hold stuff. If he sleeps in fertile soil they will grow into the ground and he leaves weird plants that are sort of beholden to him all over the place. Gross. Anyways, remember how the Hero's Shade is covered in ivy? The "missing" eye is also more or less a Deku scrub's pitlike eye now, granting him low-light but otherwise mediocre vision in that eye.

-From the Goron mask he is disturbingly strong now. Most of Farore's blessed are pretty strong to begin with and now he's got Darmani's strength on top of that. His teeth are continuously growing and need to be worn down by grinding them on each other (because he's missing a tooth from that facial scar those teeth are maloccluded and grow all weird). It's definitely inspired by wrathful deity artwork though. He's also extremely resistant to heat. He got the white hair and scales on his shoulders/knees/elbows from Darmani too. Guess what part of his magic scarring the Hero of Twilight inherits!

-From the Zora mask he has some extremely strong scales on his forearms that can be used to defend himself. He can also make nasty electrical shocks, is very resistant to electrocution, is an extremely good swimmer (nowhere near as good as Mikau though), and can hold his breath for twenty minutes easily. His toes are webbed too.

-From the Giant's mask his height just kinda varies. His "true" height is over seven feet tall but it can vary between about 6"/15cm in either direction. He has some control over this but it's more related to his sense of security. He's at his smallest when he's the most insecure but like, that's still 6'10"/208 cm so he's still way too big. Lucky for him the magic also affects his clothes/armor but it takes some time so he just makes/buys things on the larger end and waits for them to shrink to his current size. The effect goes away when removed from his body. Is this so I don't have to be consistent? Yes.

-He turns into a puppy in the War of Eras when he's ten and Zant uses the twilight as a weapon. Specifically an epicyon puppy! A 100lb/45kg puppy! Medli will ride him! I just want to draw the biggest puppy in the world. He can still turn into the big ancient wolf, and thankfully it doesn't do too much to him (unlike Twilink) but his jaw attaches waaay further back than it ought to and he can open his mouth to a scary degree. It's probably influencing those big fangs too. Combined with the Goron bite strength and... yeah.

I'll probably change things because I'm just playing around with him, so don't be surprised when I do!

I finally (got help) slapping Wordpress into shape and Runaway to the Stars is now releasing as a public webcomic! Thank you so much for your support over the years, and sticking with me while I'm slowly chewing my way through this book. I'm very excited to share this story! It'll be updating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday thanks to the massive Patreon backlog. Patreon will continue to update as I finish pages, which happens on a sporadic non-schedule.

If you experience bugs with the site report them to me. Some things may occasionally break, as coding problems tend to be a very "whack-a-mole" affair; and I'm still getting used to the interface.

I spent too much time trying to think of spec-bio for the Zora, because they just don't make any sense. Their life cycle looks like amphibians (soft egg with tadpole bodies to land-dwelling adult with legs), except they can live in sea water. In the downfall timeline they look more like alligators/swamp thing monsters and breathe fire. In the adult timeline they're related to birds (I spent a while trying to make them penguins but I wasn't happy with the result). In both the child timeline and BotW/TotK, they have aspects of all sorts of water creatures, including mammals!

Considering that they're associated with a fair amount of magic and venerate Nayru (her symbol shows up with them a lot and ohhhh we're gonna need to unpack the Hylia stature in their domain in BotW/TotK at some point) let's just say that at some point they were transformed by magic to survive in a inhospitable environment (hmmm, like the Twili...) and had their magic modified to refer to birds in the adult timeline (perhaps this was just the fresh water Zora, and there's a thriving salt water civilization of ocean Zora we never see).

Anyways, I love spec bio but I also love combining a bunch of different animals with people, and also making bad puns.

I figure guitarfish worked for Mikau because lol, pun. But also they have pretty impressive scales/denticles on their heads, and Mikau needs some strong scales to guard with his hands/fin like he does. I considered electric rays but they don't have anything like Mikau's shape. But at least they're also flattened cartilaginous fish. So maybe he's related to one. I dunno. Guitarfish hehehe.

Zora Link is a goblin shark because they both have cute noses. Mikau looked similar but he was a... guitarfish.

That's me!!! I was planning on connecting the accounts publicly once I had it completed but you beat me!

So yeah, I'm trying to write again. This has been fun practice!

Notes on the artwork:

-I realized that a lorica segmentata worked really well for the armor, with some Japanese armor influences on the arm guard, so I went with that instead of my prior design. It will change in the FD's future though.

-The story under the picture is mostly a hypothetical that could happen. It's a war, people are greedy, and wow it's easy to take advantage of a poorly socialized kid cosplaying as a warrior god.

-The sword currently looks like a big metal stick. When active it vibrates like a plucked string and looks closer to the shape we know and love from the game.

-I fucking love Ravio so much you guys.

"But they get one kid dressed up like some kind of death god and start thinking they can capture part of Calatia under the pretense of securing the border or some bullshit. Like you're just a tool for them! Well you're not, especially if I have anything to say about it. And I want to fuck them over too. Just a little. A smidgen." Ravio made a quick turn to the left, toward the docks.

"Don't worry, I've bribed the guards and Mr. Pirate Hero's got the boat ready. We're getting you out of here. If there's one thing I'm good at it's running away." The packed dirt turned to wooden planks under their feet, clacking under Ravio's boots and groaning under the former hero's.

"Also in retrospect I should have given you a better nickname Mr. Tiny Hero. My bad."

For those that followed me recently, my primary comic is a hardish sci-fi story called Aphelion, I'm just playin' around with the Zelda stuff!

A bunch of ink studies and sketches.

I love Tiny's nose. It's so fun to draw. And I think I'm getting a handle on drawing him as a kid. He's an adorable little weirdo with a thousand-yard stare.

Ravio is another one of my favorite Zelda characters, I like the idea that he's a heavily sarcastic scam artist who also makes one of the most harrowing ethical choices ever seen in a Zelda game. While wearing a bunny hood. Also Sheerow is the most competent one on the top row.

I've been trying to figure out everyone's height in relation to each other, and wow, the downfall and adult timeline Links are tiny. To some extent with video game heights you just have to accept that getting exact values is a fool's errand. Oh sure, you can pull out the model and measure it, but then you have to account for the fact that there's lots of size multipliers applied to models that can change throughout the game, and that the entire world might not quite use the same measurements as ours, plus stylistic differences, and... yeah it's hard. It's pretty clear most Links are tiny (except Tiny, who ends up being huge canonically) and I'm going to make Ravio about 4'7" / 140cm. Since it's hard to reconcile the wide range in sizes of Hylians, I think there's just a tendency for some to be very small, just like the Gerudo have a tendency for some to be very large, and certain ethnic groups have more or less of this. The ones surviving in the harsh environments of flooded and downfall timelines tend to have more of the smaller Hylians.

In the middle we have Link from OG Zelda and Adventure of Link. He's probably even shorter than Ravio. I've given him a Phrygian cap, which is pretty cool and loaded with symbolism. I've also drawn his fairy form, and tried to keep the curly hat shape. He's green because of course, but also a little red for the color shift when he uses the shield spell.

At the bottom we have a rough idea for a shadow beast from Twilight Princess, because they were hugely influential to me and one of my favorite designs ever, though I think I have to refine this further.

Also a maneless lynel! No thoughts only big kitty.

Any fun twists on Midna herself or the Twili. How...Into his missing goth GF is Fuzzbutt?

Poor Fuzzbutt is extremely infatuated... and it's probably not healthy. He'd never gone far from Ordon and suddenly got thrown into an emotionally charged situation where she was the only person he could rely on. And then she turns out to be hot? He did not have a chance and I think she's savvy enough to realize it. I get the feeling Midna has a bad habit of toying with people's emotions, though she clearly matures by the end of the game.

Since she's now more aware of this she decides to cut ties, but the real reason she breaks the mirror is that Hyrule Kingdom was DUMPING MONSTERS INTO HER REALM, even if she wanted to stay with Fuzzbutt she's got to destroy that gateway.

Could they meet again later in a healthier situation and figure out their relationship properly? Yeah, and they may not end up together. Life's like that sometimes.

Ilia is out of the question for romance with Fuzzbutt in Bad Moon because she likes girls. They're good friends though and they try to help each other out with their trauma from the whole ordeal. But it's been a few years and Fuzzbutt is still wandering around deeply unmoored and fighting monsters (I'm making Link's Crossbow Training part of this).

Midna does show up again in the War of Eras, AKA, I Take Hyrule Warriors Too Seriously. She becomes friends with Ravio and Tiny, and the three of them make a dark magic "good guy" trio. She also is very frustrated and has no respect for time paradoxes so she's more than happy to tell Tiny everything, including the fact that Ganondorf's not actually dead which sets into motion Tiny's paranoid attempts to prep the next hero... yay time travel!

My ideas for the Twili aren't super unique but here they are. They're formerly related to the Gerudo and built both Majora's mask and the Fused Shadow to break into the sacred realm (the eye designs and backstory of the dark interlopers and ancient tribe are very similar, there's also Gerudo patterns on Zant's clothes even before he meets Ganondorf but one could argue that's just a flashback and maybe not accurate). Also it's concerning how hard the light spirits came down on them!

After too many years I've finally realized I can have my nice aesthetic pictures with a short description, plus my enormous background writings by reblogging later. Will wonders never cease.

Various tidbits below cut:

Tiny's armor has been difficult, because I'm trying to combine the Hero's Shade armor with something semi-plausible AND make the aesthetic fit into the world. It's hard! For one thing, his armor looks like no other armor in the game, where did he get it? Odds are pretty good that the developers just put some cool stuff on a reskinned darknut and called it a day, but I am here to overthink things. I'm using some Etruscan influences to distinguish it from Hyrule Kingdom armor (also using Etruscan influences for Ikana... hmmm).

It's probably pretty obvious by now, but the Fierce Deity's Mask just gave young Tiny the abilities of himself as an adult. It's symbolic of him *actually* growing up instead of that weird stunted thing that came out of a seven year coma. People comment a lot on him being unnaturally pretty in Ocarina of Time, but I do creepy better than pretty so OoT adult Link is a weird test tube prettyboy because Fi Just used the prior guy as a blueprint. Sorry dude. She couldn't change his wonderful nose though. Anyways it's interesting that both the fierce deity form and the Hero's Shade are enormous dark-magic aligned armored warriors that shoot projectiles out of their sword even when not at full health! Coincidence?! Probably yes, but not for Bad Moon!

Okay, for Fuzzbutt we have to talk about the mask first. I'm using Celtic inspiration for the Kokiri, and since Ordon is clearly a reference to them they also get the Celtic inspiration (them and the light spirits). So I referenced several Celtic brooches for this.

Originally I had it so that Fuzzbutt could turn into a wolf at will, but that's not really how it works in-game (which involves using the shadow crystal with Midna's help). Now he's both scarred by the wolf transformations making him a very wolfy hylian, and prone to transforming in large concentrations of dark magic (good news though! Dark magic doesn't hurt him!) which is very annoying but heeeeey he's got a great-great-great (???) grampy that knows how to turn curses into masks sooooooo...

I'm thinking Righty's armor (based largely on the hylian armor set) is a padded gambeson (this poor guy is so skinny, they need all the padding they can get) underneath chain mail, underneath something akin to a 1950's hockey sweater. Those things are tough. I've removed the weird leather breast-plate thingy because it just looked uncomfortable to me.

Righty is carrying so many weapons! Lots are modified. They include Sheikah throwing knives, a Zonai electric sword fixed up by Purah, and a Zora sword gifted from king Sidon. Awwww. It's funny to imagine the big fish still being extremely supportive of this walking cyborg corpse because Hylians all look kind odd to him anyways.

I'm removing most of the back scabbards, because it's difficult to pull swords from them. Exceptions include some odd open-scabbard designs (for exotic swords that do not need oiling and cleaning) and Tiny can hold stuff with his vines. It's a cool party trick.

Feel free to ask questions, I don't intend to go as far as making a comic with Bad Moon, but I've put a lot of (too much) thought into it.

I'm also changing some of the lore around, so if you see something that contradicts earlier stuff, I probably changed my mind! I do that! I'm not being paid for this and I don't care!
