tbh for me it was never about twilight. like, twilight 100% awoke something within me, but the truth of the matter is that I love vampires. I love transformations. I love almost-but-not-quite-human. I love secrets and shame and bursts of inhuman rage. I love biting, and blood, and horror! I love a character revealing their faults and being loved in spite of them! I love the mix of fear and admiration! I love Different Eyes and Different Skin and Different Mannerisms. I love neo-gothic aesthetics. I love the rain, and being trapped in it, consumed and blurred and obscured by the cold, unrelenting weather. I love a flannel. Teens who think they have to act like adults. Fog! Daytime as scary as night time. Rust and mold--decay. People who do not decay!!! No entropy.

You met the Mikaelson’s a few weeks after they moved to Mystic Falls. As a student at Mystic Falls High who worked at The Grill, you were always first to hear all the town gossip. When news of a new family trickling into town surfaced, you were intrigued. 

It didn’t take long for you to meet Rebekah, since the two of you had a couple of classes together. To everyone’s surprise, the girl took a liking to you and you two quickly became best friends. Shortly after, Rebekah introduced you to her brothers: Elijah, Niklaus, and Kol. The brothers weren’t as immediately as accepting as Rebekah, but they eventually warmed up to you and, eventually, treated you like family. 

Growing up, you didn’t have the strong sense of family you yearned for. Your father had walked out when you were just an infant– him and your mother being just teenagers at the time of your conception. His departure wasn’t a surprise to anyone, as he was a known troublemaker and addict. Your mother developed quite a reputation for her promiscuity in high school that she continued to live up to as an adult. As a result of your parents’ status, you were generally unwelcome in the majority of the Mystic Falls social circles. You had a decent relationship with your mom, but she wasn’t mature enough to be a mother when you were born and hadn’t changed much. 

Becoming an honorary Mikaelson was one of the best things that had ever happened to you and it came with all kinds of perks. For instance, you always had a ride to school or work, and you had access to their extensive book, music, art, and clothing collections; but, being a human who was adored by the Mikaelson family was, in and of itself, dangerous. 

You were a constant, easy target for their countless enemies. And due to your susceptibility, along with other reasons, the Mikaelson siblings were extremely protective of you. They were constantly going out of their way to make sure you were safe. Whether it be insisting you consume vervain on top of giving you vervained jewelry or practically moving you into their home.

Whenever I see a white writer write about Latina women they immediately make them Mexican! Like I’ve seen people say where they’re from and give them their traits and describe the way they speak yet the writer’s like nope you’re Mexican, you’re all Mexican!!

Not all Latin people have a Mexican accent or tanned skin or curly hair or are in touch with their roots and no we don’t eat tacos every night. I hate it the most when they make the race/heritage their only personality trait. Hey bud? if you don’t know how to write it don’t write it or at least do your research right instead of labeling us all as one just because you racist and lazy. 🙌🏻
