hi. unsurprisingly i hated season 2. it feels like they just hollowed out vanya and replaced her with like, idk, what fandom wants? no reckoning with actual feelings, nothing messy, no personality at all but hey she did gay stuff so! academy award! ugh. sorry to be biased but that whole plotline was so cheap like i just... didnt buy it and it was overshadowed by the hamfisted like, Look What We're Doing, Omg Arent You Proud Of Us For Going There tone. the fucking dramatic homophobic speech... the weirdly lurid tone of like How Dare You Be Obligated To Fuck Your Husband, like it reeeeeally grosses me out that there was emphasis on "omg shes still fucking him" and not a generalized 'but why cant we immediately run away together'... it was just all bad and weird.

started rewatching s1 and its like a masterpiece in comparison like it just feels more... characterized, or something. s2 it felt like everyone was just reacting to things? and nobody had to undergo character growth, or really deal with interpersonal problems, it was just like... us vs the bad guys... be it literal bad guys or like Wow! This Show Totally ENDED Homophobia And Racism! yknow. s2 just like. made me feel nothing but disdain and like occasionally surprise/mirth but in a mean way. returning to s1 and seeing vanya with five and leonard has me like, Oh, so this is love.... Wow... This is what it was all about...

ill try to assemble all the positive things i do have to say. top of the list is fives obligatory murder rampage was hot. same for when him and vanya were dbz charging up at each other (even though i also hate how vanyas powers worked this time. everyones powers really). allison and ray were cute and i thought it was genuinely clever that they had a conflict where her powers made him think she was a fed, rather than the bizarre trope of like Omg youve betrayed and lied to and terrified me by having superpowers how could you do this etc etc like it was a good concept and cute that he believed and didnt mind the actual explanation. the whole of the diego and lila plot was fucking wack but they were very cute together, very bi4bi. it was fun that ben can be a weirdo when talking to someone other than klaus. i still hate klaus but his weird horny comments about five were entertaining... looking back at s1 i think klaus is like. definitely into five and five doesnt like notice or care which i really enjoy. i think thats my whole list? oh the handler had good fits and was possibly even more of a pervert about five than before which is fun. since i cant enjoy this show in a way that takes it seriously or abides most of what it does, ive like abandoned the idea of approaching it with a typical moral/critical outlook and instead want it to supply nonstop like, thrilling events and fetish pandering and shipping fuel. so her and klaus creeping on five and fives weird "i'm the daddy" thing were fun to me where in another show itd be uncomfortable lmao. hated the rest, felt like lots of filler, none of the Character Concepts i got really into with s1. disappointing but at least its got me thinking about my ships again i guess

A. If we wanna go dark, I would 100% be behind Leonard/Luther in a similar situation as Vanya/Leonard (since Luther is very open to emotional manipulation)

But I was thinking more of AU’s with them as teens still, mainly because the scene where Leonard begs Reginald to take him in made my heart hurt and I want Baby Leonard to grow up healthy, okay?

So I started thinking about possible AU’s where he manages to sneak into the academy before he snaps and kills his Dad and then I had a revelation.

Imagine him sneaking in and being found by Number One, who has the immediate urge to report to his Dad like any good Leader would but also has a strong sense of justice and recognizes how clearly messed up this citizen.

And who’s responsibility is it to protect scared citizen? His of course.

So Luther hides Leonard in the attic and they get to talking, gradually telling all the other academy members of the situation to decide what they should do (Allison first of course).

I like the different worldviews they would have. Leonard pleading with Luther to go kill his Dad because “You kill bad guys!” and Luther being content believing his Father could never be like that.

Also both of their messed up views on justice clashing with each other because Leonard believes in man made justice while Luther totally holds up laws and would never hurt someone who could be innocent.

Just two messed up boys who could try to help each other.

(Also Luther is very isolated from the others in his leader role and Leonard is canonly a very lonely child, so they would form their first real friendship with each other!)

And if you want a different AU, Leonard actually having powers and coming to the academy after Reggie sees his potential and he just recognizes how fucked up everything he used to glorify is.

First he’s really eager to please because he’s afraid to be thrown out again and there’s some rivalry between him and Luther (and by extent Diego), but then he recognizes that Reggie isn’t so different from his Dad and tries to make that clear to Luther and Luther stubbornly refuses to see it.

(Also Leonard being willing to go a bit darker on missions and Luther being totally thrown because he’s the Leader and supposed to deal with this mess of a boy, show him discipline).

“Why can’t we just kill him?” - “He’s a guard! He didn’t do anything!” - “He tried to stop us!” - “He was just doing his job!”

Also also, Leonard being nice to everyone and the others obviously liking him and Luther seeing his position as Leader in danger?? Even Reggie praises him pretty often and that makes Luther’s blood boil.

There are so many possibilities to work out a dynamic between them - one that doesn��t even have to be shippy - and I just like thinking about it!

So yeah, I ship Leonard/Luther in a LOT of situations, lmao.

vanya was staring at five for several moments before he stabbed his knife into the table, indicating that she knew that he was about to bring up time travel and was deeply concerned (further supported by her eye contact and head shaking while five was arguing with reginald). so basically, i’m thinking they had at least one conversation about this the night before and vanya might have even tried to talk him out of it.

this page (the page where vanya talks about five being her sole confidant and her best friend who listened to her violin playing) is not the one with the final equation that let five travel back to 2019. he flipped to that page on purpose just to quickly reread it and him putting his hand on the passage where she talks about him is literally him tenderly touching the words. then he flips forward to the page he actually needs, which is on the very first page of the book.

afterwards, while he’s waiting for the portal to fully materialize, he’s clutching the book nervously. his hand is holding the book open not at the front cover, but back again to the page where she talks about him.

here’s reginald’s book flipped open to the page about vanya. it’s hard to see, but he appears to have said something in her bio about five (towards the bottom of the bio you can see some words followed by #00.05) but for the life of me i can’t read it and i wanna know what it says DAMMIT!

during the scene where vanya is destroying the house, the only time five appears is during the family portrait scene in the living room. while young vanya is saying “you forgot about me” and reginald says “i did not” and vanya cries for reginald to acknowledge her, the rest of the kids look totally emotionless and are confidently facing the camera. except five, who looks like he’s trying not to intervene and is clearly upset.

also here’s five’s face when vanya has them all trapped by her powers. the rest of the guys have their eyes closed and contorted in pain. five is staring at vanya. in pain. ouch.
