Avoiding scams in witchcraft

Not sure if someone has made a post like this or not, but I am seeing more and more obvious scams on my dash daily. As an experienced witch, let me tell you, I've come across my fair share of scams.

Here's how you can identify them:

"I have SECRETS that NO ONE ELSE has!! Also, NO ONE ELSE will teach you these secrets because they are MEAN and SECRETIVE. BUT I'M NOT. I will teach you. For a small fee for the 'risk'." You do not have to pay someone for "secrets" of any nature. Especially not as a beginner or even intermediate witch - you have so much information freely available to you. The most you might pay is the price of a book.

"I'm a psychic and I'm coming out of left field to tell you that you've been cursed, but no worries, I can lift it for you!! For a fee. :)" You would think this is obvious but verify, verify, verify. Also as a rule don't trust the spells of someone you don't know unless you know someone they've helped.

Be CAREFUL about magical services in general. People won't tell you this cause they want to make money, but SO MUCH is easy to fake. Jewelry with a companion in it? Bought that bulk for $1 a pop and scribbled in a .50 journal about it, sell for $35. No magic performed. Copy-pasted tarot, rune, and psychic readings. Sure, I cast that spell, send me $50. The thing is, unless you're talented enough to cast it yourself in the first place, you won't know when someone's conning you.

"This is DEFINITELY allnaturalorganicsupersafe scrub/balm/soap/lotion to apply to your *insert sensitive area* and yes it IS worth $85 I went to the rainforest myself to collect the ingredients." Just use some quick googling and your common sense, here. Certain herbs and essential oils are not meant for certain things. Just because they sell this stuff, doesn't mean they know what they're talking about.

Another good rule - if you're working with a vendor and they make an appeal to your guilt, your grief, your loneliness, etc.? Really good chance they're pressing that button to get you to spend. Some examples: "I see you are lonely let me cast a love spell $5 off for this thing you weren't going to get in the first place." "I can channel the spirit of your dead grandma via ouija. *disappears for three days* I was SHOOK her presence was SO powerful she said she loves you and she's happy, no I didn't ask her any identifying questions... $40 please."

"Ready to ADVANCE your CAREER as a WITCH??? WELL COME ON DOWN to LADY OF THE SILVER CHALICE DRAWN DOWN MOON DRAGON, ESQ.'s temple where I will PERSONALLY sign a $2 certificate saying you're a 3rd degree Ancient Knowing One after 3 sessions of 90 minutes of me ranting about how aliens built Egypt." Do some traditions observe degree systems? Yes. Make sure you're dealing with a reputable source before you fork over $300.

Cults. There are many good posts and online resources about this, but most cults are made to serve the creator in two ways: 1) Power/control. 2) Money. For me, it's not so easy to notice the power and control issues due to past trauma, but money? I sure as hell notice that. If they are pressuring you to make more, spend more, contribute more, and you can barely pay your bills? Get the fuck out of there.

If someone is giving you a service and they're asking for ANY method of payment that is not trackable, be wary. Now, it might be an old family friend and you hand cash over yourself, which is safer. But someone online asking to be paid through giftcards, or someone asking you to mail cash? Oof. Bad energy.

People can not so much "con" you but cost you extra money by playing the middle man for certain transactions. Sometimes it's worth it to have the middle-man; that can mean higher quality products and reliable delivery. But you could save yourself money if you know the item you're buying and go directly to the supplier. Often middle-men jack prices up considerably, sometimes more than they're worth, or even trade in worse quality products than they advertise. Consider your finances, look at who you're buying from, and look at the price tag.

Yes, it sucks to say, but some psychics really ARE just good cold readers (i.e., people who can read things off you with good questions and observing body language). Some may not even know it themselves. Any form of divination may suffer from this. Again, stick with those you trust, or at least consider that when you put down that money, it's a gamble.

"I can definitely make ALL your problems go away!!! except *insert small technicality I know won't make you say no*, with just 8 easy payments of $29.99!!" Big grandiose promises that ALMOST sound too good to be true are easier to let slide because they admitted there's a problem! They must be telling the truth! No, hon. They know exactly what they're doing. They're making big promises to get big money, and when you complain, they point to their terms of service and say "This was entertainment only." That exists there for a REASON, yes, and it does serve to protect legitamite practioners when, say, a tarot reading is slightly off because those readings are meant to guess at the future and that future can be changed. Some vendors abuse the hell out of it, though.

There ARE legitamite vendors and good reasons to spend cash in the community if you want to. But be careful out there.

a quick reference for understanding honey bees !!!

🐝 approaching you

🌱 they want to know if you’re a flower, a threat, or neither ! don’t swat or get too close to their hive, and you’re not a threat.

🐝 landing on you (often you can see her cleaning herself, if you watch carefully)

🌱 she’s either tired or, on the rare occasion, deciding to sting you. don’t squish her !!! she’s probably just chillin with you, but if you want her off, blow her off. she’ll fall and fly away !

🐝 buzzing becomes high pitched

🌱 think angry bees in a cartoon. you can actually hear the change ! this means they’re getting agitated

🐝 circling your head

🌱 this is a warning that you’re being threatening and you need to leave ! calmly move away from the hive or the bee.

🐝 if you’re close to the hive: sending significantly more bees into the air

🌱 usually means they either want to know what’s happening or there’s a threat to the hive ! you should probably leave.

🐝 divebombing you in a headbutt, bouncing off

🌱 this is the most explicit “if you do not leave, i will sting you” that honey bees have. it’s the last warning !

🌱 if she’s alive, she’s either resting or in trouble. she could be diseased or usually, in winter, too cold. some folks feed them honey or sugar water ! i’ve had a few good experiences in just letting them sit on my hand and warm up for a while before she flies off. if not, i leave her somewhere she won’t be stepped on. if you’re afraid to touch a bee but still wanna help, try getting her somewhere safer with a leaf or something ! if it doesn’t work, don’t feel too guilty. they’re like cells in an organism, some are always going to be dying as new ones are being born.

(EDIT: i’ve been corrected !!! i’m so, so, so sorry for spreading this misinformation. please don’t feed bees ! honey could introduce diseases to the hive and while sugar water gives them a burst of energy, it could do more damage in their foraging habits in the long term.)

🌱 more than likely a swarm ! bees “swarm” when their hive is big and healthy enough to branch off into two hives, or when they’re moving houses ! you’ll never find a honey bee in a better mood than when they’re swarming. observe them from a safe distance, it’s super cool !

🌱 she’s cleaning herself ! just like how cats do !

🌱 she’s packing pollen ! she wets it with her mouth and then packs it into her pollen sac, which is basically just hairs on her leg shaped into a basket ! that’s why you see the yellow / orange dots on their back legs. they’re bringing it back to the hive !

🐝 dragging another bee out of the hive

🌱 they’re either moving a corpse or a diseased or malformed bee that will die soon. think of it like your body flushing out bad stuff– the bees are like cells of an organism, working toward the whole.

Motherfucking Lavender Lemonade

Five simple fucking ingredients in this bitch right here. This is some good shit to make when you are feeling bougie as fuck. High-fructose corn syrup? Naw son, I don’t play that. Hit this with some vodka though, different story. Max relax.

LAVENDER LEMONADE

5 cups of water

½ -¾ cup sugar (yeah, it is fucking lemonade. without the sugar it is just real sour fucking water)

¾ cup Meyer lemon juice, about 6 lemons (you can just use the regular lemons at the store too, not a dealbreaker)

juice of half a lime

4 sprigs of fresh lavender

Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the sugar and simmer that shit on a low heat for about 5 minutes. Make sure to stir it on the regular. The sugar should be all dissolved in the water by now with no little fucking grains rolling around in there. Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lime juice, and lavender. Let it cool until it is around room temperature. Take the lavender pieces out but use a fucking spoon and not your fingers if you are going to serve that shit to other people. Put the lemonade in the fridge to cool down all the way. Serve with lemon wedges and a pinch of dried lavender if you want it to look fucking impressive.

The dark side, and light side of the wolf

One of the reasons that I really enjoy the energies of the wolf is because of it’s dark, and light archetypes. The wolf has build up these associations, and because of this these archetypes balance each other out. Both sides of the wolf are very interesting, and can be worked with in order to facilitate that energy in certain situations. Neither of these are better than one another, But they much rather work together to facilitate Harmony, and balance in the spirit of the wolf.

Wolf Magick: Four Wolves

Wolf Magick: Wolf Sounds

There are four primary vocalizations that wolves make, and these are known as barking, whimpering, growling, and howling. These sounds are able to be used in wolf magick in order to facilitate certain energies, and in order to perform specific tasks. Wolves also combined sounds to make combinations much like howl-barking which could also be used in wolf magick in order to facilitate a combination of two energies. These sounds can be used as vocal emissions by the practitioner in many different parts of their practice.

Whimpering:

Whimpering also referred to as squeaking, whining, and yiping is a short high frequency noise that is usually seen to be friendly, submissive, and not aggressive. Wolves use whimpering in friendly interactions, or in cases on when they are feeling frustration, and anxiety. It is a way of calling to the pups, and it is also a way that wolves tell another wolf that they are being submissive. This is connected to the energies of water. Whimpering can be used in order to facilitate the energies of Joy, love, calm, and the aspects of receiving energy.

Growling:

Growling is a long deep frequency noise that is usually seen to be dominating and a warning. Wolves growl at intruding wolves, or predators. This is connected to the energies of fire. Growling can be used for banishing, cursing, and binding.

Barking:

Barking is a short explosive noise that is usually seen to be a long-distance warning, that can be used to call attention. Wolves do bark though they do do it less than dogs. A bark, or a bark howl can be used to show aggression, or to communicate that there is danger. This is connected to the energies of earth. Barking can be used for Cleansing, grounding, and the aspects of projecting energy.

Howling:

Howling is a long articulated noise that is usually seen to be a call to the other wolves in the area. wolves can use their howls in two forms of ways. These ways are known as the defensive howl, and a social howl. when the Wolves use a defensive howl they bring the pack together, and it acts as a warning to other wolves in the area. The social howl is for locating each other, and is also done for fun. Howling has been connected greatly with spirituality and divinity, and has even been seen to be like an act of praying. The sound has been connected to great power, and was connected to the winds.

This is connected to the energies of air. The howl is also connected to the moon, and the energy that it possesses. It is connected with communication, especially with communication between wolves, the moon, and the divine. The howl can be used in order to summon forth wolf spirits, and wolf energies. I have also found that the frequency of howling stimulates the spiritual being through its vibrations, frequency, and tone. Howling can be used for balancing, attuning, charging, drawing, warding, and calling forth a spiritual entities, and energies, especially the spirit of the wolf, and wolf energies.
