This is a good overview of the data that backs up what I've been hearing anecdotally from schools all over the country: that this has been an absolute nightmare for kids. Some other stuff I've heard from schools about behavior problems:
Little kids have been supervised by teenage relatives for so long that they have no idea what kind of language is appropriate for school, or for human society in general and there aren't many existing protocols for how to address a five year old saying racial slurs.
Anti-mask/anti-vax parents have, intentionally or not, taught their children that teachers don't need to be respected and it's really broken classroom management.
Kids are just at least a year or sometimes two years behind socially. Elementary schoolers bite. High Schoolers have the emotional maturity of seventh graders. Older elementary schoolers don't know how to have conversations with other children or how to solve disagreements without an adult.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 93,824 child COVID-19 cases were reported between July 29 and August 5, with children representing 15% of the weekly reported cases in the U.S. Since July 22, the total number of child COVID-19 cases has jumped 4%. As of August 5, nearly 4.3 million children in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
And while severe illness due to COVID-19 is uncommon among children, “there is an urgent need to collect more data on longer-term impacts of the pandemic on children, including ways the virus may harm the long-term physical health of infected children, as well as its emotional and mental health effects,” the academy says.
Some doctors in Seattle have reported an increase of children with serious illness from COVID-19, urgent care nurse practitioner Justin Gill told CBSN last week. Gill said kids are not as susceptible to serious illness as adults, but with more cases come more hospitalizations.
“With Delta variant, we are seeing some younger people, even vaccinated and unvaccinated, but the vast majority of cases who get hospitalized tend to be unvaccinated individuals,” Gill said. Kids under 12 cannot yet receive COVID-19 vaccines, which are still undergoing testing in younger age groups.
“Many of the people admitted here at Seattle Children’s, as mentioned by multiple articles here, are unvaccinated people over the age of 12 and unvaccinated under the age of 12,” Gill said. He added that vaccine approval for children under 12, which could come this fall, will be a big step in reducing those numbers.
Health experts believe the Delta variant is behind the uptick in cases. Dr. John McGuire, who works in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Seattle Children’s, told local Seattle station KOMO-TV that he hopes to get through this latest wave of the pandemic “as quickly as possible.”
McGuire said a vast majority of child COVID-19 cases are in kids who are too young to get the shot — or whose families are unvaccinated.
“That’s worrisome,” he told the station. “We had hoped that with increased vaccine in the general population, we would see fewer cases.”
“One way to protect [kids], because they’re not yet eligible, is to have the people that they’re around be vaccinated,” he added.
Gill said masks are also important to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including for vaccinated people who may be exposed to high loads of the virus.

people living in the americas, are you a settler? if so, here's a question to think about today, and every day:
do you know whose land you're living on?
if your answer is "no" or "i'm not sure", go here.
you'll find an extensive map that'll answer this question for you, and from there you'll be able to figure out how to help, because just because your history landed you here doesn't mean you can't help us. there's an estimated 30,000 children in makeshift graves that we have yet to fully recover killed in reform schools. our people are dying of diseases caused by horrific living conditions. we're set up for failure from the day we're born by the active genocide against us. countless women and children are missing and murdered to this day. if we can stand to bear this unfathomable horrifying information every day, then you certainly can stand to spread the word and spare some money when you're able. especially if you're living on our land.
it's so, so easy to spread awareness and do what you can to help.
we need it.

Also let's not forget about how the (white) USA let Japan "walk free" in exchange for information about the experiments they did on prisoners and civillians... The US is at fault too, and I bet they'll never mention this in any books at all
Now this is something i’ve never heard of!
I thought for the majority of WW2 , usa was very anti japan. not for the right reasons--because the us was also very antisemitic at this time (still is) as well but paraded at people pro-jewish. i only say this bcs of what happened with the japanese camps--and that was done on america soil  and japaense ppl faced and still face racism today bcs of that. but i mean--it would make sense--that the usa was still incredibly racist to japanese people in american soil but still let off not just japan but the AXIS powers in general for war crimes. so i can totally see them letting japan and the rest of the axis powers ‘walk free’ however, they still mistreated actually japaense people on their own soil.

also bc i feel like no one listens even tho its been said several times but sioux is derogatory dont call us that, some people, especially elders will refer to themselves and our tribes as sioux which is different, but if you arent from an oceti sakowin tribe dont use it its insulting. oceti sakowin isnt even that hard to say, or you could call us by our individual tribes, or bands.
