Rubber band - Vladimir Jankijevic, 2021
"""
One morning I slid my hand over a curled up sheet of paper to remove the rubber band that held it together. The rubber band shot off and landed on the table in front of me. It stirred my interest due to the curious way it was laying on the table all folded into itself.
At that moment I was engulfed by a sense of beauty and I felt that I have to preserve this moment in some form. I took a picture of the rubber band with my phone's camera. Something in me screamed !significance! but only faint echoes were registered.
After coming back several times over the next months to look at the picture I took, I realized that I wanted to create something more permanent from that moment. I wanted to create something that would stand as a reminder for how these little and unexpected moments in life can be an enrichment if one is attentive enough to catch them. This sculpture is this token. A symbol for the unexpected beauty that surrounds us in every aspect of reality. Even in a small rubber band curled up in tension sitting on an unassuming table.
