I know fandoms tend to do this to characters but this has been on my mind for a while...

You know i’m slowly growing to hate the whole “selfish egotistical diva” trope that people write/draw Mettaton in. Sure he can be egotistical, a good chunk of his character is him self praising how much of a star he is, but he is the FARTHEST thing from selfish and a diva.

Mettaton literally SACRIFICES HIS DREAM of going up to the surface for the monsters below. He pushes that all aside when he realizes how much the monsters in the underground need him and how much he gives them hope. He has literally taken TV by storm to give monsters the celebrity they never really had, to give them a fraction of what the surface has to offer while they’re all trapped underground. (and maybe because he loves the limelight, but i’d like to think that’s just an added bonus for him) Sure he may have a big ego, but when was that a bad thing? When is loving yourself ever really that bad? And I think Mettaton has earned it seeing as one of the biggest theories is he wanted to transfer his ghost body into a robot one so he could love himself even more. He deserves to have that ego if that’s the case.

Mettaton is SUPER SUPPORTIVE towards his fans, his love for his fans probably rivals his love for himself. HE LITERALLY GIVES AWAY HIS DRESS TO THIS CUTE LION CUZ HE THOUGHT HE’D LOOK NICE IN IT. How is THAT selfish???? How is THAT being a diva???????? That is probably one of the sweetest things anyone could ever do and for a CELEBRITY to do it too is even more amazing.

So could we maybe stop painting Mettaton in this stereotypical box? Because he’s honestly a much deeper character than the fandom gives him credit for.
