@hivelings submitted: Just A Little Guy.... (found in western canada earlier this may)
I am absolutely losing my mind this is the SMALLEST grasshopper nymph I've ever seen in my LIFE. Incredible............can you believe that dude is just alive? And we get to share the planet with them? Wow.
No pics to submit to you, but we had a burger picnic and made a yellowjacket friend. They really wanted a whole burger but we managed to convince them that pieces they could carry were probably better. I thought of you because I know yellowjackets are often called evil and thought a fun story was good. (We kept saying they accepted our offering very excitedly)
This is excellent I'm glad you offered the friend some snacks for their children. But now all I can think about is someone making a very very tiny yellowjacket-sized burger for them to enjoy...
We found them while removing a rotten stump from our yard. I tried to rescue as many as I could, and they’ve been relocated to the mulch. They’ll turn into rhinoceros beetles one day.
A bull snake! It was in a bike tunnel nearby that has a hill before the tunnel and people fly through there pretty fast, so I moved it out and it went on its merry way.
Bull snakes can also mimic rattlesnakes when they feel threatened, flattening their heads to appear more viper-shaped. The key give away (aside from lack of a rattle) is the round pupils.
These guys are going to be very annoying come fall, these are juvenile box elder beetles!
They were aallll over the leaves under some brush in the nearby park, I feel like people rarely ever see them before they are fully grown and hanging out on your door frames
