Alex’s eyes locked onto the only figures he could see that weren’t fleeing, and some predatory instinct cultivated through long practice recognized them as hostiles. Four of them, spanning the width of the street. It was the assurance they moved with. Deliberation while the world around them devolved into chaos. But what the fuck kind of assault team were they? Baggy black clothing, hoods drawn low over their faces. Their uniforms were a tactical nightmare, and didn’t ring familiar for any of the more ideological terror organizations SCORPIA sometimes encountered.
They were advancing down the street without care for who might see them.
That was a mistake.
The shock of the ambush was receding, leaving cold purpose behind in its place. MI6 was plainly incapable or unwilling to secure its own territory. That oversight would be remedied.
Center-left, target raised a hand, sleeve flapping back to reveal pale, unprotected skin underneath. No visible armor. No visible weapon but a curling tattoo that appeared to move and twist.
That was good enough for Alex. He wasn’t Yassen, probably never would be. But… four targets in a line. Put three down, try and secure the fourth for retrieval and interrogation.
Not waiting to see if the target had some sort of remote for a secondary device, Alex deepened his stance and pulled the trigger. The target dropped. Before the retort from the gun faded, so had another.
He expected return fire, but the other two were recoiling, bulky robes swirling as they tried to retreat from the bodies of their teammates, In the chaos, one of their hoods fell back to reveal a stylized mask underneath. Identifying details. Alex adjusted his aim and fired again.
His bullet never met its target, because his target was suddenly gone.
Not collapsed, not fleeing. Both of the remaining targets vanished as if they had never been there at all, except for the two bodies cooling on the asphalt.

Hello! I’ve been following your blog for a while, and have a piece of fanfiction you might like to take a look at. It is unfinished as of yet, but it’s incredibly special. I put it in the same category as Devil and the Deep Blue Sea in that they do similar things for me, but this one does more.
It’s called There’s No Place Like Home, by StarStepper on ff.net or StellaLuna365 on ao3
Feel free to ignore this if you’ve read it already, but it’s a beautiful story.
I’ve read it, and it definitely has its high points especially in the first arc. As time has dragged on I’ve drifted away from being a K Unit fan so it’s not quite up my alley anymore but I always appreciate any recommendations!

I completely agree with this point. What has always interested me is that I have never seen anyone even suggest what a spinoff would be about. With Devil people who want spin-offs can articulate very clearly what they would like to see - alt POVs, crack prompts, serious prompts, etc. but I can’t recall anyone suggesting what a Mammals spin-offs would look like.
finished reading Of Mammals and Madness what am i supposed to do with my life now

Joe Byrne never felt sympathy for his FBI counterpart. But he just might make an exception just this once. It couldn’t be easy investigating a so-illegal-that-Joe-doubted-it-was-written-law dinosaur auction while said dinosaurs were still roaming the northwestern countryside. That didn’t change his opinion on being asked for “help” when any attempts to get any himself were regularly rebuffed in the name of bureaucracy.
Luckily, Joe had a lead. There was no way Alex Rider, diagnosed adrenaline addict, wouldn’t try his best to be in the room where that much chaos was bottled.

Remix?
What is your level of interest in an AR fandom remix event where you take another author who signed up’s work and get a month to write a spinoff, prequel, sequel, midquel, different POV, reverse the dynamics, genre change, anything you can think of?

And Crawley who was recruited for SCORPIA within his first year of working alongside Ian at MI6? Feel like there’s a story there I’d like to hear. Likely with Yassen involved at least peripherally given the timeline…

Title: Greetings & Salutations
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Yassen Gregorovich/Nile
Characters: Yassen Gregorovich, Nile (Alex Rider), Julia Rothman
Tags: Soulmates AU, Snippets through time, soulmate marks in foreign languages, mentorship meets complicated feelings, idiots in love
Summary: It took Yassen years to understand what his soulmate mark said, and many more after that before he heard the ill fated words. The simplicity of a bullet would have been far easier than years with his mentee nee bonded rooting him back to the humanity that SCORPIA had stripped from him.
Collab with @ahuuda, the captain of the Yassen/Nile canoe
Written for the 2023 Alex Rider Ship Week event @arshipweek

Alright, look, I know Sekhmet ( the leader of Ammitt, Nile’s strike team in Devil) is a character with two lines but the her vibe is immaculate and all I want is more of her sadistic, efficient, and bitingly good natured personality. I just love the complimentary interactions between a permanent strike team and their CO. Add in some gender dynamics, similar senses of humor, and desperate need to prove themselves as the only strike team with a female leader (in Devil) it just is the recipe for some nuanced but entertaining interactions.

I love it when I find out about Easter Eggs other authors left in their fics for example: Yassen never speaks in Closer Contact or that Bite and Bite Again, Unfortunate Son, and Mother Knows Best are all outsider POVs focusing on adult Alex coping with two decades in the field but set in the same universe.
I would love to hear about any other Easter eggs/facts about other authors in the fandom!

Spyfest Exchange Sign Ups End This Week!!!
What is Spyfest? Spyfest is an annual fandom event for the Alex Rider fandom. Each week, one prompt is put up for anyone who wishes to write a fic centered around that prompt. At the end of each week, there is a voting period where readers can vote for their favorite fic. In the last week of July, there is also a fic exchange.
What is the Exchange? Authors can also sign up for the fic exchanges. Around June 15th I will open the Google forms for exchanges, and the form will be open until June 26th-ish. (I’ll give warnings before I close it.) Around June 30th you’ll receive a match - I don’t fully randomize the selections, but base them on people’s answers to the exchange survey. The exchange fics should be uploaded between July 23rd and July 29th. They’ll be anonymous until the last week of voting, and then all authors will be revealed.
If you’re interested in participating please let me know!!!

Prodigal Son - Hunger Games AU Outtake with @ahuuda
The kid was unfair.
Well, that wasn’t the best read but it also wasn’t that wrong. Rider did as much as he could with the resources he had. At least according to Yassen. Nile wasn’t sure how much he believed that. With all the gifts exhausted and the Feast completed there was no hint that Alex could supply and so he had taken his place, away from the Gamemakers and in the booth of District Eleven. He was a guest along with Yassen and sat at his feet. Yassen was idly twisting Rider’s hair as they watched Nile’s last victor on the screen.
She had made it far - the final eight. But that didn’t mean shit. Not when the kid had a million tricks up his sleeves. In reality, he didn’t know how much control they would give a newly minted Gamemaker just out of the arena himself. Yassen hadn’t seemed at all bothered as his Tributes fell to the environmental threats. Just looked placidly on, and then accepted Nile’s invitation to sit with him to watch the rest of the games.
On-screen, his tribute hesitated.
The choice of the bubbling prismatic springs seemed easy compared to the horde of Careers chasing after her. Especially after the bubbling blue one had saved her. But the announcers winced and the camera cut as her skin sloughed off in the boiling hot water. Nile stood, slamming a sword into the dummy they had brought in for this exact purpose.
“God damn it.” Rubber and foam pieces showered around where Yassen was still relaxing peacefully on the couch. And Rider, Rider was shrinking away. Nile snatched the front off his shirt and pulled him up until his feet barely touched the ground
“It wasn’t my fault- “ he began before Nile could even question.
Nile couldn’t keep himself from slamming him into the wall - Askari had had a chance. “Bullshit I saw your sketches.”
“Nile.” Yassen said flatly.
Obediently he dropped Rider. He would need a hate fuck later and the kid wasn’t going to get in the way of that.
To his credit, Alex didn’t run to Mommy. Just straightened up and faced Nile head on. Alright, he could appreciate that. Time to teach then.
“You have to let the kids kill each other, this environmental shit doesn’t give enough chances.”
“I thought it was a kindness,” Alex spat, Nile had watched his games, Alex had been a fighter. If one of the mutts had killed him it would have been a tragedy and he would have died pissed off.
“Nothing about this is kind, kid. But at least one way they have a fighting chance and the Capitol will feel better.”
Those brown eyes glared up, “I’ll go let the Senior Gamemakers know of your critiques, Victor Abara.” And damn if he was right, kid was still a kid, even in those circuits. He brushed past Nile and Yassen and then the door slammed shut.
Yassen sighed and unfolded herself.
“Not you too.”
Yassen shot him a withering look.
“He trusted us enough to watch the games. The and now look what you did went unsaid. “I’ll be in the gamemakers quarters if you need me.”

Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
Reyes had yet to let up on the steering wheel. Which matched Hill’s own energy. “You know what happened.” There was always a casual menace to Danube. Felt a bit too much like Rensburg’s hyenas to Ivey - smart, lethal and just a bit feral.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He did, but RTI wasn’t just saved for Malagosto and if what he suspected was going on they wouldn’t bother using it on him.
Except for fun.
Ivey shifted his hands. If he could just call Alex, a distress signal, something. He could save his boss and all of them the trouble of -
“I also wouldn’t touch that.”
Something cold and heavy pressed against the back of his head, Ivey raised his hands plaintively. The cell was taken from him, the rest of his pockets and clothes were searched with far less grace than he was used to.
Not friendly for civilians his ass.
“Whatever you want, Hill, I don’t have it.” He finally ground out as the muzzle moved. Playing stupid was an art form. Some came by it naturally, Ivey had to work at it.
Hill hummed, too much like Alex for his comfort. Odds were he had picked it up from Mr. Gregorovich which explained where Alex had gotten it. “I believe you do. How much does the kid know, and how much do you know.” Ivey didn’t fancy talking about either of those things. Before he could voice another lie an all too familiar voice crackle over the radio.
“Bring him here.” Ivey couldn’t help but close his eyes, slumping back against the seat. Interrogation by Cossack was worse than Danube. Somehow.
Alex was going to kill them, kill them all. And, unfortunately, that thought was a just a bit too literal for his liking. If Danube survived this it would be a miracle.
