Hello everyone!
In case you are interested what has happened to old Zieksy...
As some of you may have already noticed, I am not really active here anymore. Pray forgive the discourtesy. My love for the franchise and Barok in particular is still the same lol, but I've decided to focus on other aspects of my life, not to mention that something has changed recently and I now have to (and of course want to) use more of my time dedicated to a loved one in need. Life is just too busy. :)
Plus, sadly, being part of any fandom also means being exposed to some of the negative sides of it, which I just don't want and need in my life. I don't desire for my positivity to become jaded. I want to enjoy the games for what they are without some of the unnecessary toxicity that unfortunately can't be evaded when spending time online. To me games are entertainment and a form of joy/relaxation, just like books, nothing more.
Sure, while every now and then there are some issues with companies that should be addressed, that's not even what I am referring to. There's just no need to drag real-life problems or issues into the games themselves, misinterpret things, and create something that it was never meant to be by the creators. For example: "You can't like Godot because he's [fill in the blanks]!"...No, that's not necessarily what that means; let's be more open and not view it through a lens with a limited range + he's fictional, just like the rest of the game/setting. It's okay to like fictional stories. It's okay to analyse them, but in the end it's not real and can—but doesn't have to—affect our perception of the character/story/etc.
Games can be silly, over-the-top, unrealistic, just like AA. It doesn't have to make sense in a real-life situation but can make sense and be believable in the setting of the game. I enjoy creativity that can manifest itself in many ways. While it has never happened to me personally, and I certainly would have just ignored it, I feel with all the people who are bullied or who are subjected to prejudice over fictional things. Let's all be respectful to our fellow human beings, who are actual, real people.
I desire to be more carefree in that regard while also making educated consumer decisions. It's the real issues in this world that concern me and that I try to have a positive impact on as much as humanly possible. Being a conscious and good person is of the utmost importance to me. We all deserve respect and happiness regardless of who we are and where we are on this planet. We are all humans who are in this crazy thing called life together.
Either way...long story short: I am still going to enjoy the games (and my favourite wine-guzzling vampire prosecutie!), but in private, because my positivity is important to me, and I will use my time to focus on loved ones and other aspects in this world. I've really enjoyed my time here on Tumblr. It's been a pleasure to get to know you all. Thank you so much for engaging with me. And I may eventually be back, who knows. Until then I'm wishing you all the best. May you be happy and healthy and may your dreams come true. Stay wonderful. 😊
Best wishes,
Zieksy

Hello van zieksy how are you? Iťs me your dear Reaper-san anon. Do you still remember me? I am sorry that this letter is not going to try to be written in more traditional manner than those better but recently tragedy befallen my household. My dearest companion, my first ever dog Ben died. He was old and one accident was his sudden downfall. I hope I am not bothering you but if you feel up to it I’d really like to hear how would Lord van Zieks comfort his dearest friend or lover if they lost a pet. I know it’s selfish request of mine but it’d make me feel slightly better. As they say time will heal all wound and surely the second dog we recently bought a week before this tragedy is gonna make me and my family happier. I wish you a wonderful day and lots if love because this life is short and now I understand we need to cherish it to the fullest with ones we love.
Yours dearest devoted follower
Reaper-san
Hello Reaper-san!
Of course I remember you. I was actually thinking how you were doing the other day. <3
You have my deepest condolences for losing your treasured friend Ben. I am sure he was a lovely dog, going by his owner. :) Losing a loved one is always challenging and makes us question what life is really about, what actually matters. "[...]because this life is short and now I understand we need to cherish it to the fullest with ones we love." I fully agree with that sentiment. I can relate to what you're going through as I've been there before; I think most of us have.
Even with Ben gone, there is something that will always remain with you: the beautiful memories of him. One thing I've realised in life is that (positive) memories are one of the most invaluable aspects of life. As I grow older, I often find myself thinking about past experiences as well as lost loved ones. They may be the past, but they have become a natural part of daily life and hence live on forever. They shape us. No one can ever take that away from us. Ben may no longer be around physically, yet he will forever live on in your memories and your heart.
I think Barok would be of a similar mindset. All his obligations suddenly become secondary to being there for his grieving loved one. Because the pet was a vital aspect of his loved one's life, in extension, it became a part of his life as well. Barok is very much familiar with loss and grief, as he has lost so much, which motivates him to offer words of understanding and time to his loved one.
After having physically and emotionally supported his loved one during the first few days after losing their pet, which are undeniably the hardest to get through, he suggests his loved one write down the most precious memories with their pet, if possible also create a small photo album with their favourite photos. If his loved one is an avid writer, he recommends for them to write a poem or a story that focuses on their time together. I'm sure the pet had a favourite toy. He offers to hold onto this toy and put it in a small, beautiful box with the rest of the memorabilia. That way his loved one is not constantly reminded of their loss, but has the option to pull out the box to look at the things in it and reminisce about what once was.
We (as humans) may have a few pets during our lifetime because we can grow quite old, but each one of our pets spent their whole life with us. That's significant. Barok reminds his loved one that their pet was able to live a long, happy life, thanks to their wonderful owner.
We can't reverse time or change the past, and maybe we shouldn't, but we can ensure that our experiences become a treasured part of our present. It's up to us to decide if and how we want lost loved ones to remain a part of our lives. I am sure Ben had a good life thanks to you, as I can sense that you're a lovely person. Take comfort in that. As time passes on, so does the initial pain. The memories stop hurting. Rather, they become a beautiful reminder of a most precious time together that no one will ever take away from you.
You're in my thoughts. All the best to you your family, and your new companion. <3
Yours truly,
Zieksy

"...My learned Nipponese friend is obviously in training to be a clown, the way he regales us with such witticisms."
Barok just.... I mean I am still correct in what I'm saying, but damn, how do you even come back from that one?? Ryunosuke is going to need therapy for that statement alone.
Also I'm soooooo upset the games aren't fully voice acted, I would've loved to hear that!!
The more I play DGS the more I want a separate anime just for this whole era. I'm not even asking much. Just the cases and-
Okay wait I just clicked on my switch screen to prevent it from shutting down and he follows up with a toast to "my future career in the circus"???? Holy fuck, this man!!
Soooo I suppose you can definitely count me in for the Barok van Zieks Simp Club. I feel like I owe him my soul and part of my income.
Such an iconic statement that it even transcends timelines. Barok must be Edgeworth's ancestor, right? (Yeah, I know, the "you're the entire circus" thing is just a meme).
I can understand his thoughts, though. Think about it from Barok's perspective for a moment. You are the most celebrated Crown prosecutor in the country who only takes on high-profile cases, not that you care about your own status, but you do want to make sure that the good name of the British judicial system doesn't get sullied. This nobody from a different country who did not even properly study law and who does not have any real world experience whatsoever shows up in court to pretend to do real attorney work. This wannabe also makes his debut defending one of the most notorious individuals in town, who you definitely know to be shady (let's leave it at that, okay?). Surely this kid can't be trusted, right? What's he up to?
The youngster goes on to disrespect court procedures because he's not familiar with them, accuses people without any shred of evidence, bluffs, puts forward hypotheses merely based on ideas or feelings, disregards many of the protocols. Of course the prosecution is frustrated. Wouldn't we all be if we were part of the game? What makes Ryunosuke charming to us as the audience, makes him bothersome to the characters in the game that are involved in all of this. :D
I'm actually surprised that prosecutor Van Zieks just goes along with it, when he would have had grounds to ask this learned friend to be removed from the courtroom due to being unfit for court. Barok is very patient and even helps Ryunosuke quite a bit/mentors him, as well as cooperates with him when he technically doesn't have to, because in the end, this prosecutor only cares about justice. (Gosh, there's more I want to say, but I will refuse to use any spoilers because I know you haven't finished the game yet, so let's end it here).
You absolutely speak my mind! A well-made anime in the world of DGS would be so very amazing. Hearing our beloved characters speak (as you've mentioned), seeing them move. The character design is superb, the world is beautiful. I adore the whole franchise (some games/characters more than others), but this cast is my favourite. From Ryunosuke to Barok to Susato to Iris etc., I love them all! I am not the same since I have finished this duology. Barok is my favourite character in the franchise (surprise, I know), with Ryunosuke coming in second and Susato coming in third, which is quite the achievement against such all-time-greats as Edgeworth, Phoenix and Maya. :)
Enjoy the rest of the game(s)! 😊
Edit/P.S.: In case you read my blog here, I can only recommend you filter out the tags "tgaa spoilers" and "dgs spoilers", as that's how I tag my spoilery posts and reblogs. Other people may use the same or other tags.

A series of 4-panel comics featuring courtroom shenanigans roughly 2 years post TGAA.  (So no underage drinking here.)  If Barok can drink at every trial, the defense should get to try some of that wine at least once.  As a treat.

Soooo I finally met Mr. Barok van Zieks.
Is he a vampire? Is he a lunatic? Is he death himself? All of the above??
Big fan of his vibes. Also his face when he's reading from the scroll?? Mr. Van Zieks, why do you have to be so insanely dramatic about everything? Why do you look like you're suffering just for the aesthetic of it?? Like yes, he's in court, but he will still make a face like a kicked puppy that is also better than you in every way.
Also I can't believe it happened again.... When I played AA1 I sent a picture of Mia to my bestie and went "ohhh she's soo cool, I love her!!" And legit, not even kidding, 30 seconds later she was dead. And now I tell my bestie about Kazuma, how he's so sweet and such a great mix between serious and hardworking and fun and cute and BAMM!!!!!! BROKEN NECK!!!!
Also it's so upsetting that he didn't even get to die in a grand, spectacular way at least. But no, he tripped on a kitten und was pushed and hit his neck on a bed post.....
Also, kinda in love with Hosonaga now. I already feel the need to consume as much fandom content about him as possible, but for fear of spoilers I will try not to look at anything. Hopefully he makes many more appearances and nothing bad ever happens to him (other than his face getting bruised and the...coughing blood thing??). I'm guessing tuberculosis. Or Wuxia Disease, like in the Chinese fiction genre of Wuxia where whenever characters are sick or injured in any way at all, to show how dramatic the situation is, they start coughing blood.
I hope I'm not annoying you by regularly updating on how my ventures into the Ace Attorney games are going 😳
Love ya!!
Hehe, you know I love Barok! But I've already said so much about him on my blog here that there's no need for me to repeat why and how much I adore him. ;-)
I'll refrain from saying anything about Kazuma so as to not say anything spoilery by accident. I can relate to your and your friend's feelings though!
Hosonaga is lovable and also somewhat unsettling, isn't he? How did people not mind dining in the restaurant he was working as a waiter? "Here's your bloody steak, sir."..."Waiter, I didn't order my steak rare. Why is there blood on my steak?" "Oh no, my apologies, sir!" *cough cough...Hmm... :D
The reason for his couging is indeed never touched upon. It may be TB, which would fit the time period. He also has an undiagnosed buckwheat allergy, but he keeps eating noodles because his parents own a soba shop.
Hosonaga is a good and helpful guy, yet at the same time he was about to throw Ryunosuke under the bus in 1-1. It makes him relatable and human. :)
I don't want to say anything else about him as then I'd tread in spoiler territory.
Please keep me updated as you progress through the game. I welcome it. Even I don't have much to say at this time (spoilers, you know), it's interesting to read your thoughts!
Take care and enjoy the rest of the game(s). :)

Barok while his (!) apprentice and a certain someone were having their big reunion:
Tumblr media
How dare they do that right in front of him.
-----
(Big spoilers for The Great Ace Attorney/Dai Gyakuten Saiban. Don't click on it/proceed unless you've beaten the games or don't care about big spoilers.)
Not to mention:
The guy he's been going against in court for a while turns out to be friends with the son of the man who murdered his brother, i.e. the suspicious guy with amnesia and nothing to his person he kindly accepted as his apprentice. Oh, Barok, what do you always get yourself into. Maybe you should have just stayed at home that day. :D It reads like a bad soap opera.

Currently playing AA3, still love it, but damn, I'm on case 3 now and court always starts at 10am, there was a recess at 11:03am and Godot said before he drinks about 17 cups of coffee per trial day and he just said he has 6 left.... Did this man seriously drink 11 cups of coffee in an hour???
I have so many questions about him, but my most pressing ones are
How does he not spend 23 hours a day on the toilet?
What is his average pulse??
What happens if he doesn't drink coffee nonstop? Like, does he have to keep drinking it or else he'll just drop dead? What happens to him at night? Can he sleep? Does he need full on anaesthesia to fall asleep??
Also the game really wants me to dislike him, but I'm way too fascinated with this man's inner machinations. I want to study him. I want to put him into a little plastic container and observe him like a bug.
Still very very grateful that you helped me get into the Ace Attorney games ❤
Hey!
Thanks for the follow-up!
Godot is an interesting character for sure. His backstory (not spoiling anything, so I won't say anything here) may explain why he's a different kind of human. Maybe it altered how his body works? No one really knows. But I'd say it's just AA being AA; our universe's principles don't necessarily apply to AA's universe. ;-)
There's nothing wrong with appreciating Godot as a character. I like him, too. In fact, it's okay to take a liking to any character that speaks to us in one way or another. There's not one character that's 100% good, neither are humans. Phoenix, for example, has his flaws, too. We all have good and bad sides. It makes characters deep and interesting. Plus, they are little fictional guys, so it's okay for the creators to experiment and take creative liberties. It'd be boring otherwise.
Games want us to feel about NPCs/characters in the same way the playable protagonist feels about these characters since we are experiencing the story through their eyes (e.g. the game wants us to dislike Godot as a rival and human). That does not mean that we have to feel that way, agree with the protagonist's assessment of certain characters, and aren't allowed to interpret things differently. It also doesn't matter how other fans feel about a certain character, as not everything we read online is accurate or well-thought-out. Some fan favourites would actually be really challenged people if they were real, but so what? We all have our own opinions and interpretations. Social media can also act like an echo chamber; one person says something, others repeat it because it's "in" without allowing themselves to form their own opinion or even experiencing the game in question themselves. There's no 100% right or 100% wrong, no black and white. Also, we can not—nor have to—always apply real life paradigms to fictional stories; it doesn't always work that way.
Utilising our critical thinking skills allows us to enjoy games more, free from the shackles of outside influences or the protagonist's lens. There's often more to characters than meets the eye. It may sound weird for me to say this, as I do spend time on tumblr and such, and for the most part enjoy my time on those platforms, but even I have to admit that it can feel liberating to step back, disregard what people are saying online and simply enjoy games (of any kind) freely for what they are without others influencing my thoughts/feelings. Games are blank slates to be explored by everyone freely, with everyone's experience being different.
Please enjoy Godot and whoever else you wanted to enjoy! Just as importantly: stay away from spoilers, please! I've accidentally spoiled myself before because it's so difficult to avoid spoilers when being online. :D
All the best to you!
