Los Enamorados (3.06)
Air date: Thursday, July 26, 9/8C
Episode summary: Teresa tries to escape her captors with the help of an unexpected ally.
Tumblr media
P’s predictions: (The Jeresa episode) My favorite card, and another of the major arcana. The lovers (*cough* Jeresa *cough*) are pretty easy to read. They show openness, attraction, and love, along with trials to overcome. My ship is sailing but it won’t be without struggles.
Right or Wrong?: TBD!

La Fuerza (3.04)
Air date: Thursday, July 12, 9/8C
Episode summary: Teresa flees Europe and starts fresh in Phoenix, Arizona. She must deal with a commission of cartel bosses and a corrupt local sheriff.
Tumblr media
P’s predictions: Strength is one of the 22 major arcana cards. Rather than represent a specific person, Strength stands for, well, strength. But he also represents power, energy, action, and courage. And we all know that those are words we’d use to describe Teresa Mendoza.
Right or Wrong?: TBD!

 (it’s linds here; hey fam)
So I actually had a kinda different perspective, and that’s that it’s protection. Teresa has been powerless--she’s lost things she’ll never get back, lost people she’ll never get back--and she doesn’t want to ever be there again. scratch that, she can’t go back. she can never be the girl she was before guero, and i think in her mind, she has two options: it’s not sink or swim; it’s float or race. she can either be complacent in this life that she didn’t choose, or she can fight, be stronger, and even if only for a moment, come out on top.
in the beginning of s1, teresa played a passive role. she relied on guero’s word, and the book he told her would save her. it didn’t, epifanio didn’t, and i think teresa equated passivity with loss. then she met camila, saw a woman who was brutal and bitter, but who was stronger and capable and it clicked inside of her. teresa doesn’t want an empire because she wants subjects, she wants an empire because she wants its protection. she’d rather be the active player in her story than a side character in someone else’s.
at least, that’s how it started for her. but then...she’s good at being queen. we don’t know much about her life before guero, but i doubt teresa was as suited for it as she is for her new role. remember how quickly she impressed epifanio? then james? pote? camila? george? teresa has the stomach, the intellect, and the nerve to be queen, and i think she knows that. she knows she’s suited for it, knows she can succeed where others can’t, and there’s something addictive in that. as well as gratifying.
Hey you guys, why do you think Teresa wants to build a drug empire of her own? Considering how much suffering it causes, the "collateral damage" of innocent lives ruined in the process etc, I wonder how she deals with the (im)morality of it? Why do you think she's not thinking of getting out of the drug world? Thanks for running this blog!
Hey nonny! P here! Glad you like our blog!! Other admins might chime in with other opinions but I think the simple answer is that she’s trapped. The drug world, from my completely limited, totally fictional point of view, isn’t one that you can easily just quit and walk away from. At first, she was doing what she had to do to survive. Making the jump from mule to Camila’s business partner wasn’t about opportunity and money, it was about becoming less easily disposable. Teresa’s only ever run and fought to survive. Right now in Malta, shes still on the run from Camila, and she’s still working to sell El Santo’s coke and pay off her debt to him. I don’t know if you know how big a metric ton is (approximately half an elephant), but a metric ton of anything is going to cost a lot and take a lot of time to move. She’s got two bounties on her head. One from Camila, and one from El Santo if she can’t sell the coke and pay him. But I think running the drugs herself is Teresa’s way of dealing with the immorality. She’s always advocated there being a better way to do business, and as shown in the last episode, she really is willing to risk a lot to save those who need saving. I think she tries really hard to live well despite her circumstances, and helping those in need (like the tarot reader in 3x01) makes her feel a little better about it.
