In honor of another “vegan leather is plastic” post going around, here’s your reminder that:
1. Both are bad for the environment. Leather isn’t better just because it comes from a renewable source. Cows emit methane, take up valuable land, and the tanning process emits harmful chemicals into ecosystems.
2. Vegan leather wasn’t designed for vegans. It’s designed for people who can’t afford real leather and don’t want to smell like shit when it rains. It’s just given a bougie name for marketing purposes.
3. Literally most synthetic fabrics are plastic, but some of y’all fixate on pleather but have no problem with polyester being used instead of cotton for whatever reason.
4. Leather is not a by product of meat production. Cattle are raised specifically for leather and go through an enormous amount of suffering in the leather industry.
5. Stop believing everything you see on tumblr without fact checking.

“Can’t people see that? Are there minds incapable of reaching beyond petty, selfish pleasures? People have a duty toward Animals to lead them - in successive lives - to Liberation. We’re all traveling in the same direction, from dependence to freedom, from ritual to free choice.”

Denying the role that individuals need to play in combating the climate crisis is the leftist version of climate change denial. Anyone responding to suggestions of realistic, accessible changes to reduce your own impact with anything resembling ‘100 companies are responsible for most of our emissions so this is pointless’ are engaging in science denialism.
There is no way that collective action takes place without individuals making changes in their own lives. Yes, the rich are more responsible than the poor and yes, what we need is systematic change. However, there absolutely are things we can and should be doing to reduce our own impact and put pressure on polluting industries through direct action and boycott.
These include stopping or reducing flying, eliminating or drastically reducing our consumption of meat and dairy, buying second hand where possible, repairing, recycling and supporting environmental action and rewilding efforts. None of this in isolation will mend the world but its a hell of a lot better than passing the buck while refusing to make any changes in our own lives.
I know that the idea that climate change is caused by someone else; somewhere else, and that it’s up to them to change instead of us is seductive rhetoric, but it’s also extremely dangerous. It encourages the kind of apathy that plays directly into the hands of corporations who want us to feel powerless and to continue to consume as we do now.
We can’t just sit around and wait for The Revolution; we have to live revolutionary lives.

If you’re going to argue with a vegan and pull out every trick in the book (“but people have allergies”, “but people have malabsorption”, “but people are poor”, etc.) and then you end it with “well I like meat and you can’t force me not to eat it”, then you’re actually just showing your true motives for eating meat, and it’s really transparent.
You don’t actually care about food insecurity, environmental issues, poverty, starvation, people’s disabilities, or any of that. You just want to use other people’s problems and reasons why they can’t as an excuse to justify the fact that you only eat meat because you’re lazy and you like the way it tastes. Knock that shit off, get off your high fucking horse, just be honest, and get straight to the point next time.

please donate to heartstone sanctuary!!! the cows need to be tested for tuberculosis and they can't do that on the current site because of flooding. if they can't get tested they will be seized and slaughtered by the department of agriculture and they don't have much time left.
they need to raise a huge amount of money in just a short time but they have one donor who has offered €200,000 so they're much closer to their target than they were
please please share as widely as possible and donate if you can. lives literally depend on it

Have you ever wondered if your contribution makes any difference? Here it is how big your impact is!
Through our local contact in the north of Gaza, Ammar Kaskeen, we managed to distribute 16 food parcels, priced at 75 Euros each (compared to 25 Euros for each parcel in the middle and south parts of Gaza), due to the scarcity of food items in northern Gaza. These parcels were provided to families located in an UNRWA School for displaced people, among the neediest. Despite the challenges, Ammar was able to gather essential items such as wheat flour, lemons, canned olives, tomato paste, Ghazan zaatar, regular zaatar, olive oil (0.5L), tahini, chilli sauce, and cooking oil. Vegetables were either unavailable, prohibitively expensive, or affected by rot.

Each item had to be sourced from different vendors, with prices fluctuating. Specific precautions were taken to avoid association with food distribution. Beneficiary data collection occurred just before distribution to mitigate the risk of individuals in need colliding while seeking parcels directly.
Due to the absence of functioning banks or ATMs in the north of Gaza, we paid a 11% commission to someone with a bank account who still have funds in cash. While commission rates ranged from 10% to 17%, we identified the most cost-effective and reliable option.
Sourcing food items occurred amidst the presence of Israeli tanks and soldiers, necessitating a slower pace to minimize risks. We extend sincere gratitude to our partners in Gaza for their assistance, despite the risks to their health and lives.
Internet connectivity was inconsistent throughout the process. As his phone was destroyed in previous bombings, our contact used his sister's phone to communicate with us and provide updates and photos.
We thank you for your ongoing support and compassion. Please, consider re-donating and spreading the word about this vital campaign.
update from 17/3/24 taken from the link above, i corrected a typo in the last paragraph

Why do feminist meat and dairy eaters get so pissed off when someone points out that other animals aren’t genderless, sexless, or mindless?
Why the fuck do they get outraged when you point out that a mother cow in the dairy industry is a mother? A female? Not “we believe she’s a female”. She is a female, fact in and end of. If you’re offended when someone calls a cow a mother or a female, you are offended by REALITY.
Fucking straighten it out and get it memorized.

The research showed that vegan diets resulted in 75% less climate-heating emissions, water pollution and land use than diets in which more than 100g of meat a day was eaten. Vegan diets also cut the destruction of wildlife by 66% and water use by 54%, the study found.
The heavy impact of meat and dairy on the planet is well known, and people in rich nations will have to slash their meat consumption in order to end the climate crisis.
Prof Peter Scarborough at Oxford University, who led the research, published in the journal Nature Food, said: “Our dietary choices have a big impact on the planet. Cutting down the amount of meat and dairy in your diet can make a big difference to your dietary footprint.”
