It’s right and fair and just to mourn the species gone or going extinct in the span of humanity’s lifetime. It does suck. But the point of no return we are past is the prevalence of biological activity on Earth. This planet already lost its chance to become another Mars or Venus.
Life was born before there was breathable air, before land was habitable, and continued to produce survivors through Snowball Earth, the Great Dying and Chixculub. The Age of Mammals came because the Age of Birds went.
There are worms a mile underground and vertebrates at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. There are whole ecosystems living off of hydrogen sulfide around hydrothermal vents hotter than lead’s melting point, and bacteria in boiling volcanic springs. There are fungi that have already learned how to feed off of polyurethane in Ecuador and gamma rays in Chernobyl.
Adaptive radiation. Survivors will inherit the world. They always have.

Yes to all the posts telling everyone to change from a default icon and add a header description if you don’t want to be mistaken for a spambot, but it looks like this also needs to be said:
You will especially be mistaken for a pornbot on Tumblr if you set a selfie as your user icon.

I dedicated a sketchbook to self-indulgent self-sketches and I just scanned the ones I’ve inked in so far, ft. some of my real-life outfits.
(…and yes lol I caved and changed my abyss colors to better correspond with my surface skintone)

Don’t worry about how we got on this topic, but it came up that you can pop your dick like a finger. So I looked it up, and the first and arguably only relevant result was on Newgrounds.

…That’s why Tiktok isn’t the same…… Vine had the charm of home videos, improv and those little one-offs you have in the middle of other conversations…… Vine was slice-of-life humor. Tiktok is its gentrification because it got Instagramified.

So here’s my take, and it’s a take applicable to the whole genre. Narnia wasn’t ruled by Peter Pan, and Susan wasn’t punished for growing up by surviving.
Call it temptation, call it wishes, but a key trait about fantasias is desire. There’s another reason more stories like this have child protagonists, and that realms like this appeal to children’s senses of imagination is just part of it.
It may be debatable whether Narnia would count as a dream, but what makes it behave like a dreamland is its selectivity and the power of belief, especially at the moments of its conception and your own visitation. Brandy stopped hearing Aslan’s song because he believed he must be mishearing a lion’s roars.
(Sidenote: the power of belief includes observation. Once you perceive this world for yourself, trusting your senses will typically override skepticism, like how a cartoon character can safely step past a cliff until they notice they’re walking on air. That’s why those key timeframes are the most influential.)
A lot of fantasias such as Narnia or Neverland or Oz reach out in response to wishes to find places like them to escape to. More children than adults happen to accept these “invitations” because they’re less likely to consider beforehand how to get back home, or realize they’ll want to. Out of adult adventurers, on the other hand, suspension of disbelief isn’t actually as much of a factor as their likelihood of “worldly” attachments– which is to say, personal attachment.
The Pevensie siblings were refugees of the Blitz, sent out on short notice to live like fosters at a stranger’s house. Of course they felt more at home in Narnia. That’s why they were welcome back, because in their hearts, that’s where they belonged.
So when Narnia was closing its doors to outsiders for good, absent Narnians weren’t expected to get another chance to come back home themselves, and this is where we come back to Susan. I don’t think she was forsaken. I think she was able to succeed in a way her siblings, possibly their cousin and friends too, didn’t. Despite their childhood, she’d built a life she would want to make it back to. She’d already found somewhere to belong. Narnia ruled against taking that away from her.

Suburbs are haunted but in the other direction. Haunted houses are haunted because it’s still touched by what used to live there. It still remembers loving touches and festering wounds. A haunted house is dangerous because of its loyalty, its sentimentality, a grudge built upon adamant refusal to forfeit those memories. They’re alive.
Suburbs, meanwhile, are so uniform, so sterile. It’s the uncanny horror of not-a-deer but in that the deer is plastic, the houses are plastic, the lawns are plastic. It’s the way they reject any show of personality, of a soul. It’s the way they aggressively veto all signs of life, while also trying very hard to pass as alive themselves. Suburbs are haunted because they’re not alive.

Every animal I can think of that has Hands is at least semiarboreal. Primates. Squirrels. Raccoons, tanuki, possums. Rats and mice, some are tiny enough that climbing tall grass counts.
Anyway. Uh. Fossils is where I was going with this.
