I was very nervous(sitting at a work meeting) and I had to doodle comfortable things, to keep myself together. So I made a sketch for this one. Tom and Goldberry, my favorite couple...in the end they are maybe too sweet, I am almost ashamed to post it here x_x

I’ve been thinking about Thingol in Beren and Lúthien lately; namely, what happens after he allows Beren to marry Lúthien.

I’m not sure how much time passes between Beren and Lúthien’s return to Doriath and the Hunting of Carcharoth. I personally imagine that at least a few weeks or even one month passed by before Carcharoth entered Doriath, which means that Beren and Thingol might have had time to sort things out together.

So, if we go off that assumption, I have to ask everyone:

I personally think they had a decent relationship (maybe even somewhat close), but I’d like to hear other people’s thoughts. Please reblog and explain your reasons in the tags!

#The Silmarillion #close #the book says that Thingol's 'mood was softened' and he has Beren seated beside him along with Lúthien #it's ceremonial but also symbolic I think of how he now sees Beren - on a par with his daughter #it's like the bit where he formally adopts Túrin by seating him on his knee #it's a formal gesture but also an indication of the relationship that develops between them #I think you could also trace his love for Túrin back to more positive interactions with Beren after this #then there's Beren personally avenging Thingol's death by slaying the Lord of Nogrod himself #even though Lúthien herself is unhappy with all the added bloodshed #in general yeah I think all the details suggest that Thingol and Beren became close #(plus we know they both enjoy a Dad joke :P)
