'In my later work, the person who is navigating the space, his or her experience becomes the content. So, the whole subject-object relationship is reversed. The content is you! If you don't walk into the work and engage with it, there isn't any content. That's really what I've been dealing with ever since I saw the Velazquez painting.' (Las Meninas)

Art Fairs: Art Galleries vs Artists
Artists often find it hard to get a warm welcome in galleries. Gallerists are primarily at art fairs to make money. Understandably, they might get annoyed when artists try to talk to them during these busy times. The investment for a booth is far from minor. However, to an extent, this rejection also happens in art galleries. Is it the only business where the sellers don't welcome the makers? Does the artist have a responsibility in this situation?
“At Art fairs, gallerists are nice and friendly until they realize you are an artist. Then they turn away and don’t talk to you anymore.”
- José Freitas Cruz, artist, Mozambic

Dystopian Surrealism or Becoming Realism...
Zdzisław Beksiński
(1929 – 2005)
A leading figure in contemporary Polish art.
Beksiński was known to be a pleasant person who took enjoyment from conversation and had a keen sense of humor. He was modest and somewhat shy, avoiding public events such as the openings of his own exhibitions. He had obsessive–compulsive disorder, he referred to his condition as "neurotic diarrhea". But his paintings were mostly about doomsday with a nightmarish lucidity.
He was adamant that even he did not know the meaning of his artworks and was uninterested in possible interpretations; in keeping with this notion, he refused to provide titles for any of his drawings or paintings.
Beksiński's wife, Zofia, died in 1998; a year later, on Christmas Eve 1999,
His son Tomasz (a popular radio presenter, music journalist, and philologist who translated media including Silence of The Lambs, Casablanca & Reservoir Dogs, and more) committed suicide by drug overdose. Beksiński discovered his son's body.
On 21 February 2005, Beksiński was found dead in his flat in Warsaw with 17 stab wounds on his body; two of the wounds were determined to have been fatal.

Chavis Mármol's Neo-Tamene (from the series)
Sculptor Chavis Mármol has never owned a car, but that’s never inhibited his drive. Earlier this month, the 42-year-old Mexico City-based artist (who travels largely by bicycle) dropped a nine-ton replica of an Olmec head onto the roof of a blue Tesla Model 3.
The car was donated by Colima 71,, a boutique hotel in Mexico City.
The work is a mix of humor and criticism that explores the Mexican pre-Hispanic past from a Western neo-colonial perspective.

Mohammed Sami approaches art as an allegorical representation of the striking image of conflict and violence. His paintings explore belated memories triggered by common everyday objects from when he immigrated to Sweden from his native Iraq.
