There is beauty in listening, beauty and power. When we take the time to lay down our own agenda and listen to others, we see the wounds and sorrows of others. We begin to notice a world outside of our own, one that needs empathetic and loving people. Too often we demand that our voices be heard, but in the end, people just want to be known. Being known by someone has tremendous repercussions that can heal and rebuild a broken life, it says to them “I’m here and I see you truly.” Being known means someone else KNOWS us, not only do they realize we exist, they realize we matter. Take the time to listen, to know those around you. It’s a gift that few in this life want to give, but one that everyone desires deeply. When we know one another, we do not fight, we protect and take care of one another. That’s a lovely and wonderful thing that we should all strive to do daily.

When we don’t take the time to see both sides of an issue, we close ourselves off to opportunities with others. We become the judge, jury, and executioner. Humility is overthrown for selfish thought, and our character is surrendered in the cause of self-righteousness. Be willing to take the time to find the truth, not just react at the first thing you hear. By engaging with others, listening to their story and being willing to walk with them, we begin to understand love and humility. The road to truth is found when we are willing to make the effort to search every avenue possible. When you see something and the first thought is anger, that is a sign that you should go deeper into the issue before responding. All anger comes from fear, fear is blindness reacting. Let’s learn to open our eyes before we scream, let’s learn to engage with love before responding in hate, and let’s be willing to be wrong in our attempt to find the truth. We are flawed but can learn from our mistakes, remember that in your journey today. -T.B. LaBerge

Love the ones who have been given to you, and leave the ones who left in the past. We have a short time in this world, let’s not waste it on things that are not ours. Love actively, live in humility, and be a person who makes the most of each day we have.

We need help beyond ourselves. Like David, we need a Nathan. We need someone who can gently revoke our self-righteousness and apply truth to usurp our sinfulness. Here’s how we see that grace is a surgical, sculpting chisel that renews us by confronting the worst in us with pinpoint precision and acknowledging our desperate need as sinners. Grace, after all, is a love that presses through sin. The God of the Bible doesn’t merely drop a truth-bomb and beat you into submission, but gently removes your self-deception and empowers you to return home. It hurts like crazy. His grace does not merely comfort, but grabs your sin by the fistfuls and kills it with the relentless violence of love. It neither condemns nor condones, but convicts and re-creates. It’s a scalpel that will work with you to the messy end. It demands getting honest. It demands getting with those who will graciously rebuke you because they love you and know you can do better. It takes knowing that you might be wrong, that you might be blinded, that you don’t have it right this time. It takes confession.

I beg you, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

Our job is to love people. When it hurts. When it’s awkward. When it’s uncool and embarrassing. Our job is to stand together, to carry the burdens of one another and to meet each other in our questions.

I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..

Allie and I have been dating for well over a year now, I am learning more and more that no matter the distance that is between us, we grow like crazy. Sometimes the growth is something that we are not always prepared for, but it’s good and important to work through it. We have left the fuzzy feelings and all is sunshine and flowers stage. We have entered the “let’s roll up our sleeves and figure this out” stage. It’s been a great place, I get to see Allie in her weakest and love her, and she gets to see me in my weakest and love me. There are few things in this life more wonderful than being vulnerable and loved in that, showing our hearts and still having that person stay. Love is a rare and wonderful thing, you will have many glimpses of it but once you’ve found that beautiful treasure, you must hold on tightly. I can only truly love Allie well if I am pursuing God, and sometimes that is harder than you would think. Even so, we must follow God before anything else. My heart is cruel and wicked, but when I allow God to do a new thing in me, I can radiate Christ. He is far more gentle than I will ever be, and in Him I know that Allie will be cared for. The same goes for her, she cannot love me well without the love of Jesus. We are so fragile, so small in such a big world, but we are given moments when we find each other and all the vastness of life seems small compared to the love of another in whom you have searched for for so long. I am thankful for Allie’s love, just as I am thankful for all the days to come. We have a long road before us, and I’m excited to walk it with her. -T.B. LaBerge

My fear of being real, of being seen, paralyzes me into silence. I crave the touch and the connection, but I’m not always brave enough to open my hand and reach out. This is the great challenge: to be seen, accepted, and loved, I must first reveal, offer, and surrender.
