excerpt from Iterum, Chapter 5: Break

“Couri seems convinced that he can control me,” Feinberg starts. “That’s a dangerous assumption. I’m going to show him how dangerous it can get.”

“Why do you think controlling you is what he wants?” Switch asks, quietly, like he’s trying not to wake a sleeping bear. “I think…” He pauses, watching Feinberg’s hands carefully. “I think he trusts you.”

Feinberg clicks his tongue, unfazed. “He thinks I’m loyal to him.”

Switch looks up, surprised. “Aren’t you?”

For a moment, Feinberg’s eyes soften, as if he were considering telling Switch the truth.

“No,” he says instead. “I like him just fine, but I serve myself. I’ve never been a fan of royalty.”

Switch subdues a smile. “That’s why you’re always at his side? You serve yourself by catching an arrow in the lung for him?”

Feinberg’s bandaged hand finds his heart, gripping at the fabric of his coat. “I have to gain his trust somehow.”

do you think reading dolorem + iterum at 2am for the first time all in one go is a good idea

iterum and dolorem combined are about 80,000 words, at average reading speed that’s approximately five and a half hours. if you want the most mentally taxing experience, i’d say go for it, but otherwise take your time. savor the experience. dolorem and iterum took me two years to write (so far), so feel free to lend it some of your time as well. it will give back what you put in.

in the wake of recent events, i have decided that i will be rewriting dolorem rather than deleting it/abandoning it. this will be a huge undertaking but it’s worth it for the human beings that continue to make my life better. (all of you)
