There are legit criticisms over Medrano's character designs catering to a demographic and based on personal preference, but they are drowned by the majority of them being just "I don't like her style, here's my take but better" which are also catering to a demographic and based on preferences

Here's a little secret about character design: Nobody has ever designed a character for any reason than "I think it looks cool."

People who have more diverse character design have more diverse tastes. Nobody ever designs characters on the basis that they should. They did it because they already liked it, or came to like it.

I don't draw any of my characters, but I did design all of them, and you can easily tell because there are frequent, recurring motifs with all of them

Author Appeal is the one universal trope in everything anyone does. Sure with me I like a little bit of everything so you'll see recurring themes and motifs, but they also shift every few years.

A lot of people only like one or two things and consume those in excess. And Medrano's one of those people. She wants to draw Tumblr Sexymen and garish fursonas.

And here's the rub: You'll never successfully get someone to make characters they don't want to make. And if they do, they'll do it the bare minimum just to shut you up.

And you'll always be able to tell. Because they won't have the same drive for it as they do the things they actually do like. And if they did actually have the drive, the whiners would be accusing them of being fetishistic.

Your time is better spent uplifting creators who do like the things you like than trying to convince the big boys to diversify their palette. We should all diversify our palette, but nobody was ever convinced to like something through incessant pestering.

I know the US government acts like a corporation but it’s not.

Not voting isn’t the same as a boycott. Because you can’t bankrupt a government by not voting. All you get by not voting is less control over what the money is doing.

The money comes from taxes, not voting. Abstaining from voting does nothing to reduce the governments ability to get money and spend it on shit.

So yes, sometimes you vote to reduce harm because not voting WILL NOT REDUCE HARM.

It’s not a boycot. Abstaining doesn’t take power from the government. It just reduces the number of people they feel answerable to.

Zero Tolerance policies in schools are often blamed on staff being lazy and not wanting to take the time to figure out what's actually going on regarding fights or bullying.

But the reality is even more mundane and more infuriating.

They exist because most people in their adulthood find issues children face in their lives to be trivial and not important, so they don't even consider it something that's worth investigating to begin with.

Asking a teacher (or even a parent) to investigate bullying is as alien a concept to most people as investigating your own shadow. We all remember experiencing bullying, but compared to the existential dread of living in late-stage capitalism, it all seems so quaint in comparison. A lot of people actually yearn for the days where their concerns were so small.

The idea that it has serious effects on the mental health of a child is laughed off, because it "doesn't matter" and "isn't a real problem."

I had depression as a child. What did my parents say?

"What do you have to be depressed about?"

The idea that what children go through in their day to day lives is actually important and effects them is laughed off because the adults in their lives technically have it worse. Which is a universal fallacy people struggle to deal with.

I catch people doing this in my friend group among themselves. A few friends complain about how their parents treat or have treated them, then they hear about how mine treated me and go "I feel bad for complaining about mine now-" No no! Your problems do not need to be the worst problems in the room to be worth being taken seriously!

How do you feel abt the criticism of the life action that they took away Kataras rage?

I'm working on a video about the live action series, and one point I end up making is that both Katara and Zuko get their characters assassinated largely because of fallacious fandom attitudes toward them (Zuko is called a Villain who go redeemed, Katara has her personality reduced to "motherly.")

Honestly the show feels like it was written by fans.
