Yeah I know, this is the second time I've heard this.

People don't do that, even in normal conversation. There's a reason why the majority of us aren't okay with it. Even if it's not everyone who's upset by it, it's enough to know that the majority of the community isn't okay because a lot of us have grown up being made fun of by those types of jokes. Idk how anyone expects us just to be okay with it just because a small portion of the community is.

Again, stop saying stuff like "on behalf on the lgbt community" because you are literally discounting two people in that community who have said it isn't overall the lgbt community. And I said it has essentially because a literary device, not is one. Language adapts. That person wasn't calling to an object. They were very clearly using it to represent other/all genders. Why cant you understand that relegating people to objects isn't fucking okay in any context. And also? I've been told that it's NOT a literary device. People use "et cetera" not random fucking objects, and that makes sense given my recent writing class DID NOT teach me that device. I have a whole book on fucking writing devices and that was not covered anywhere so I'm not inclined to believe the one anon I see say that. Anecdotal evidence for that kind of thing isn't enough, and I'd rather trust my professor over yall just saying.

The pineapple thing is not offensive in all contexts, it's essentially a now commonly used literary device essentially used in place of etc. I understand you not liking it, but saying the other anon is the only person who doesn't care if it's used and by default because it's just them it doesn't matter is wrong. But regardless I see that type of thing far too often and in the term of the LGBTQ community it's not okay because we've had to deal with that shit for so fucking long, same with race. We're not objects. We're not "weird". We're just not. And yet using that type of comparison always implies that we are. There's no way around that.

I don't care if you specifically are okay with it, a majority of us are not. I used to see posts all the time explaining why those jokes are shit. You shouldn't do it to the LGBT community and you shouldn't do it to other races because in both cases you're basically saying "you could be the weirdest thing possible" which implies what we are is weird and not the norm. It's in the same vein as people saying "you can be x" race and start listing random colors people can't naturally be.

It's not okay and it really, honestly and truly, needs to stop. You'd make everyone who's nonbinary, who doesn't align with the main "LGBT" part of the full acronym, and whose gender and/or sexuality isn't a commonly known one much safer in their own communities if you did.
