what triggered the daemon riverlands suicide bender again? like did he have a falling out with rhaenyra?
well the book doesn’t say a ton about what happened between them and it’s all made more confusing by the fake historical perspective and weird misogynistic characterization of rhaenyra and mysaria but. fire and blood unserious as it is establishes basically this sequence of events:
-once daemon and rhaenyra get to king’s landing he brings mysaria to court. they’re fucking every night which rhaenyra is seemingly fine with (surprisingly this bit is not a mushroom quote)
-rhaenyra makes a plan to end the war that includes daemon and nettles going and finding aemond in the riverlands to go kill him. unclear whose idea this was or whose idea it was to bring nettles also.
-daemon and nettles hole up in maidenpool because they can’t seem to find the worlds largest dragon actively terrorizing the countryside anywhere. they are weirdly close. because he’s grooming her. they cannot find aemond so theyre stuck like this for weeks. in my mind this is where daemon starts to lose the plot and just not have an exit strategy.
-two of the other dragonseeds betray rhaenyra and join up with daeron the not appearing in this narrative to sack tumbleton. rhaenyra reacts by charging up about 5% of the bastardphobia within the heart of the average team green twitter user and is like okay they are treacherous and base due to their bastard nature they all have to die right now.
-including nettles. rhaenyra sends a letter to the lord of maidenpool saying hey you have to kill this child my husband is obsessed with who is living under your roof i don’t care about guest rite i don’t care about him retaliating against you for this i am literally the king you gotta do it. don’t kill daemon though. xx rhaenyra
-this alienates daemon from rhaenyra permanently though he does take the time to call mysaria a whore and blame her for this too. what an upstanding guy.
-anyways the next morning nettles takes off out of the narrative on her lonesome and daemon tells the lord of maidenpool “this is the last you are ever going to see of me. tell aemond i’m at harrenhal” we can tell at this point there is no exit strategy but for:
-daemon engages in murder-suicide with his nephew who thinks they’re having a fight.
what do we learn about daemon from this? well that he has problems and also doesn’t ever have a long term plan

“This is more of a theory than something actively said though because Itadori has the least internal monologue out of all the characters” <- RIGHT?? we need to start talking about it more I know sukuna is often described as mysterious… an enigma (cause he absolutely is) but guys… what about yuuji?? we barely know anything about yuuji cause we rarely ever get to see his internal monologue I know it’s a part of his character but it’s quite… unusual for the audience (us) to not get to see THE MAIN CHARACTER’S THOUGHTS also op I love your take on this I absolutely agree w ya also the part about yuuji fighting curses as a metaphor for fighting against his negative emotions instead working with them… you get it. think the answer to jjk is not getting rid of curses and ce... but accepting them as a part of their reality both sorcerers and curses need to accept reality in its entirety humanity and curses. love and curse energy. they’re all part of the same reality. in other words they need to accept each other rejecting one or the other creates unbalance and after all jjk is about finding that balance (via olasketches)
"How is Yuji coping with all.... this?"

in response to this post
He isn't! That's part of his character!
(It took me so many rereads to analyze all this, but the fact that we don't get a longer breakdown is perfectly in character...)
Itadori actively avoids thinking about the whole situation.
As seen in the cursed womb chapters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Itadori in a 'nutshell' is:
In order to avoid regretting my life, I have to have a role, a role that only I can fulfill. I thought that I was being helpful to my grandfather - who is probably going to die soon. Don't think about that either, just help.
(He caters his entire life to helping his grandfather... especially because Itadori's the only one who visits) - but in the end he told me to 'help other people because I'm strong.' (Itadori took that phrase and centered his being around that. Upon rereading the grandfather's words though... I see it as more of an acknowledgement for how Itadori helped him, and that he should continue and take care of himself when needed. Itadori hyperfoucused on the help people because.... wasn't he already helping? And his grandfather told him to 'not end up like him'. Did his grandfather regret his life? Wasn't Itadori there? Was it not enough?)
Tumblr media
Also Itadori's reaction to his grandfather's death is also in character. If Itadori spends time doing anything other than fulfilling his role, then he feels guilty about it. And he spends his entire life trying to avoid that guilt.
And according to his grandfather, the way that you know you've helped others is if you die surrounded by them. Itadori being there was enough to give his grandfather a peaceful death, but he wasn't fulfilled because he died 'alone'.
(Itadori calls his grandfather's last wish as a 'curse of his own'. Makes me think that Itadori felt guilty for not being enough for his grandfather, even after catering his life to caring for him. This is more of a theory than something actively said though... because Itadori has the least internal monologue out of all the characters. I can't count his thinking panels (in volumes 1-4) on one hand)
So avoid guilt ---> get role ---> help others because grandfather said so ---> if you die surrounded by other's, then you've succeeded.
And you know what gets in the way of this... thinking! About death! That he will be surrounded by as a Jujutsu sorcerer! Buuutttt he's a vessel with a purpose and he's going to chase that!
ALSo ALSO! Itadori's main fear is 'death that he cannot control' (for both himself and his loved ones)
Itadori's getting a death he cannot control. A lot of people around him get deaths that Itadori cannot control.
So what does he do? Process this?
Nope!
He justifies his eventual execution with 'I get to choose how I die', and he's going to try his hardest to give everyone a 'natural death'.
And even when you look at curses as a metaphor for negative emotions (which they are) and Jujutsu as ways of processing negative emotions (by getting rid of them instead of working with them because the havoc they can cause is scary)... how does Itadori deal with it?

I absolutely love this direct parallel. Thundercracker is always such an interesting character when he's portrayed like this - he's loyal to the Decepticon cause, but not interested in wanton destruction and death the way many other Decepticons are. He pities small weak things and finds no entertainment or honour in killing them unless he absolutely has to.
It's going to be fun seeing how his reluctance to kill for the crime of being small affects his relationships with some of the most brutal Decepticons we've seen.

ASOIAF POV characters ranked by how good of a guest judge they would be on drag race (definitive ranking)
24. Arys oakheart. spectacularly bad in a way that would also be bad TV because he simply would not know what to do. and would be icky about it.
23. Ned stark. canonically gets suspicious of people just because they are gender nonconforming.
22. Aeron greyjoy. people are going to wonder why i put him as Victarion on this list. this is because I think victarion has a better personality for reality TV.
21. Victarion greyjoy. good TV, would win reverse GLAAD award for most homophobic event on television.
20. Areo hotah. too stoic.
19. Quentyn. little nerd in over his head. if Barristan Selmy is telling you that you are not serving hard enough it’s already over.
18. Barristan selmy. a #ally for revealing that egg legalized gay marriage for his kid daeron and being happy about it, but does not have a lot else going for him. would probably say everyone looks nice
17. Bran. seven.
16. Joncon. IS gay, but does not seem like he’s super into all that.
15. Jon. Would probably awaken something in him.
14. Jaime. does not serve cunt, is one.
13. Brienne. Listen she’s trying her best okay.
12. Samwell Tarly. Would DEFINITELY awaken something in him. too busy blushing and telling everyone they look great to be an actual judge.
11. Arya. One thing about her is she WILL be finding people and she WILL be talking to ALL of them which makes her a great TV personality, but i think she would get bored.
10. Davos. Can’t explain this one i just think he would be down.
9. Cat. Serves, afraid to FULLY serve. Ally.
8. Asha. gets off on being mean to pretty boys so you know she is having a great time.
7. Dany. what can i say she’s a star.
6. Tyrion. definitely has the personality for it.
5. Cersei. is a fascist but showing up in full rhaegar eleganza to her husband who she murdered’s funeral. cuntress. You KNOW she would kill it.
4. Arianne. Definitely the first person you would think to ask to guest judge and for good reason.
3. Sansa. 13 year old fashion icon who loves gay people so much. Is so into it the whole time. meticulous notes.
2. Theon. could be the greatest to do it if he could ever get over himself but as it stands simultaneously knocks it out of the park and is a total train wreck. extremely fun to watch.
1. Melisandre. Serves like her life depends on it which she thinks it literally does. Obsessed with appearances and performances. off putting antagonistic cryptic and weird. fantastic TV.

When Feyd-Rautha sneers that Chani is Paul's pet, he's doing the clichéed thing where the villain makes a thinly veiled rape threat towards the love interest, inspiring the hero to rally and defeat him.
But it hits home because Feyd-Rautha is not wrong. By declaring his intention to marry the emperor's daughter and become the new emperor, Paul has essentially reduced Chani to the position of a pet.

i will be honest i think new dune tried too hard for normie mass appeal and took all the flavor out. the aesthetics are not insane enough and neither are the characters. stop trying to make any of these people “relatable” they are operating on ideologies that are nigh incomprehensible to anyone who isn’t addled by thousands of years of space feudalism and selective breeding and worm cocaine use

i'm desperately interested in your lannister in the walls symbolism essay if that's something you would like to share
you know what i would. like all my summer 2022 notes app archival material it is both deranged and very informal. but i had just read cersei i affc for the very first time and i was convinced i was cooking something up. Here’s the intro the rest of it is under the cut so it’s not a scrolling nightmare:
so my like big tinfoil theory ab this so far is that the walls and tunnels of kings landing represent like the cataclysmic institutional rot that will destroy the city because said rot is also the truth of it. The little birds who convey the truth to varys while also representing how fucked up this place is because they’re child servants with their tongues cut out. Also like how the doom of valyria was in its walls because the enslaved were literally in there and bc that evil was institutional. Also like the rot that consumed tywin lannister whole cause he’s kings landing in microcosm or whatever. the doom of kings landing is quite literally in the walls cause of the wildfire, and because it’s wildfire it is also LITERALLY the doom of valyria. Just like the Doom was a lot of fireworks but it’s real downfall was the true extent of its rot filling every space in the walls and under the empire, the walls and tunnels of KL are also the Lannister Cognitive Dissonance Basement.
Tywin’s Hypocrite Tunnel reveals the truth of who he was the entire time. Tyrion learns the worst truth of his life in the tunnels, and then comes up thru the Hypocrite tunnel to kill his dad and also he decides to be evil while he’s down there because he thinks that’s the truth about himself, that the rot is also his. But that’s like our mini doom of valyria, that everything tywin hated about himself as well as the people he wronged he shoved underneath the city until it came up and explosively killed him.
Cersei starts her flop for crows arc by in tandem refusing to go into the tunnel or think abt its purpose while refusing to acknowledge any of her father’s flaws. The Tyrion in her head that’s taunting her about being in the walls is the same voice that’s confronting her abt the truth she is repressing abt her father. She knows her doom is in the walls and under the city, but she thinks it’s tyrion when actually it’s the threat of every single truth she has ever repressed to form her delusional worldview coming back to destroy her (the truth that the rot is hollow and pursuit of tywin’s kind of power means nothing but self destruction and also that her mirror was the one who might kill her and not the brother she thinks is different from her in every way). I dont think shes going into the walls until it’s time for her to blow the city up tbh. apocalypse!!!!
Side note: the tyrion in her head being cersei especially is so. like for the past three books we have been told that cersei lannister’s main trait is her pride and vanity. and then you get to her first POV and it’s immediately clear that everything she hates about herself, her father, and the world she attributes to tyrion and everything she likes about herself she assigns to something she inherited from her father, something jaime should be, or both. queenhood and womanhood and her own body are just coffins her family has stuffed her in to fit their own needs. For cersei, the body is a construct just like the Red Keep is, and it is a prison!!! it’s the cage they kept the lions in under Casterly!!! The power she’s constantly chasing after is just the ability to be taken seriously in her own right, respected as a person and not a woman (which to her are antonyms). What presents as her pride and vanity from the outside is actually just a constant battle against the reality that cersei lannister doesn’t really exist because she has absolutely no stable sense of identity and is just as empty as the rest of her family!!!!
Back to the walls: Jaime has a running theme where he can only speak or think the truth if he’s underground, like harrenhal bath moment or taunting catelyn abt bran and the incest in the riverrun dungeon or telling tyrion about tysha in the black cells or his dream in the cave with brienne where he’s like it’s dark out so i can tell the truth abt her being a beauty and a knight. It’s the same with the tunnels. He starts HIS flop for crows arc going in first to the Tywin Hypocrite Tunnel, and has to confront the truth that he doesn’t actually know his brother like he thought he did, or his sister, or his father, or himself really. Also that he’s kind of responsible for their father’s murder. ALSO he finds a dragon mosaic that he thinks is rhaegar, telling him “I know you, kingslayer.” He has SO many repressed truths come up in this tunnel, but he just comes out and is like lol who knows what’s down there not me whoever did this could still be down there look out.
Not that it would’ve been smart to tell Cersei the truth, but it definitely indicates that during Jaime’s feast arc he will not be confronting anything unpleasant because he doesn’t want to. Pushing the truth of yourself away and into the walls and under the city means you can be somewhere (the red keep) without really being there at all, which I think is the connection to Jaime’s dependence on dissociation and going away inside and his relationship to institutions. The details of why he didn’t say anything about the wildfire aren’t super clear but I think him hunting the pyromancers but leaving wildfire in the walls is representative of the fact that on some level deep down he believes in false knighthood, that you really can solve institutional rot if you are Good, if you do enough Heroic Sword Violence to the right people. Lady Stoneheart is in a cave or something I think so that’s his big underground inability to repress anymore-related downfall looming.
So anyway TLDR: Cersei’s right, there’s something those walls and under the city that’s going to destroy them all. It’s not tyrion lurking, but like the irrepressible truth that the rot and evil at the heart of the red keep has eaten it whole, and that the Lannister legacy and conception of power propped up by violence and intimidation is just hollow. That’ll get them because that singular truth is enough to crumple everyone’s self-concept and is too much to overcome even with the Lannister dedication to cognitive dissonance. Which is why I think Cersei blows it up when she gets to the point where she cannot lie to herself abt shit anymore. If twow drops and actually joncon ends up starting the Great King’s Landing BBQ of 301 AC i actually didn’t say any of this😌

Weilin Zhang posted his storyboard for Sukuna VS Mahoraga and the notes for this part are so good
Tumblr media
"Sukuna gets up from his roll and makes a facial expression that communicates that he knows what has just happened. He has successfully gotten Makora to learn how to feint and has just used it against himself. In other words, he has just taught Makora to lie, and in a way corrupting Makora’s divine status.”
but I also really love it when Sukuna's just drawn with a basic smiley face (I had to crop it or else tumblr wouldn’t show it????) especially compared to how it looks in the final
